It's possible that the Wachao..uh...however-you-spell-their-name Brothers has concerns about this release tainting a future and potentially more lucrative release.

Here are some reasons Sony wouldn't launch the PS3 this year.

1.) No advertising campaign to push them.

2.) PS2 is still going strong.

3.) They need a bunch of games to start with. Saturn's early launch didn't do much to get it in the market.

4.) Sony hasn't had time to shop it around at trade shows etc to get feedback and market it.

5.) Until Sony and MS tip their hands, Sony's unlikely to even launch the machine because the sooner they do it, the more powerful the next-gen systems will be.

Of course that's all just speculation, but I feel very strongly that this is not the year of PS3.

That problem is on it's way to being rectified. My company has a large LCD monitor that needs lots of data to drive it. We've got a $700 optical cable that takes it's range to some ridiculous length like 30 meters. They've made a small adapter that converts the electrical impulses to light, and back to electricity again on the other end so that the monitor itself doesn't have to be modified to use the cable.

Light doesn't cause this type of interference, so they'd be able to (in theory) apply this to other technologies as well. I don't think it'll be long before we see hard drives using something like it.

I agree that AMD'd have one up on Intel if they did get 64-bit gaming going, but dedicated servers are not going to create a new market. Give me a game that runs noticably better on a 64-bit processor. For example, what extra can they do with Doom III?

I don't see what's so 'wrong' about it. A cell phone can be a life saver. Here in Oregon there's been an on-going story about a snow-shoer that got lost on Mount Hood. I bet his family wishes he was carrying a cell phone.

In any case, I can understand the social evolutions of carrying cell phones. When you got a group of people who wants to go do stuff, it's a lot easier to mobilize when the prerequisite is that everybody's home.

Is that wrong? I don't see how. It may be bothersome to you if you've got a large group of friends that insist on calling all the time. But that's the neat thing you can do with a cell phone you can't do with a regular phone, put it on silent. Let the voice mail get it. You really can't do that with a landline for fear of blocking calls to other people who use it.

So no, I don't have the instant "oo dat's bad" reaction to it.
