The problem with shopping for natural and organic foods at Amazon is you'll miss the smell of patchouli and body odor. Unless of course YOU haven't bathed in a week and shower in patchouli yourself...but nobody on/. could possibly be like this.
In all seriousness though, most of your local health food stores run on very slim margins. I'd rather help support a local natural food store and try to keep some of the local population in their jobs. This isn't to say that Amazon offering this up isn't a good thing. I just don't think it's for everybody. That being said, getting healthy foods into the hands of more people is ALWAYS a good thing...
Yes you can bury every comment that criticizes Perl, but only for you. If my threshold is set to -10, it would take 10 people marking the comment as thumbs down, to hide it from me.
Have you ever used digg? Of course you can vote against a story. It's the big ass "problem?" button right under it. You can also undigg a story that you've dugg. Yes you can promote or bury as many comments as you like, but only once per comment. It may bury it for you, but depending on another persons threshold, they may still see it.
Sounds to me like instead of voting on comments, you need to figure out how digg actually works..
how is it that this will benefit consumers in the slightest? If I understand this correctly, I would have to swipe my fingerprint on this device in order to listen to my cd????? WTF?? How is it that the RIAA continues to dabble in unfettered gestapo tactics and still have any artists to represent?? This is a joke. If artists really want to make more money, put out some decent music. I'm sorry but Britney Spears doesn't count as decent music and the RIAA needs to be stopped.
right from RIAA.com
Everything that the RIAA is active on--fostering a viable music marketplace online, preventing piracy, fighting censorship--is based on one premise: It all starts with the music and the music starts with the artist.
The artist creates the music that jolts you back in your chair, whisks you across the dance floor, or freezes you in reverie. Music marks key moments in our lives. Memories of first loves, bitter battles, and sweet triumphs are all brought back by that favorite song. You "own" that anthem now, but it started with the artist. They all create different music, yet with the same passion to connect. Different path, same goal. When the connection is made -- look out.
Music moves us. Music unites us. Not many art forms are as expansive, evocative, poignant, or powerful. That's why, around the globe, the artist is embraced, honored, banned and sometimes feared. Nothing communicates like music does.
To do his or her best, the artist needs a supportive environment. That is a goal of RIAA. RIAA fights to preserve freedom of speech, copyright protection, and a positive environment in which to create and distribute music -- on and off the Internet.
No one drops from the sky a rock star. It's hard work. Breaking through is a struggle. You don't start at #1 on the Billboard chart. No one knows that better than the artist, which is why the artist is often his or her own best advocate in the public policy arena. At RIAA we do all we can to make sure those voices are heard in the nation's capital and in state capitals across the country.
So let's alienate the fans even more. Yeah, lets treat everyone like they're a criminal just because they want to listen to a cd. The RIAA could have jumped onboard the downloadable content bandwagon in the beginning AND promoted fair-use rights all along. Fuck them. I'm going to boycott ANY and EVERY artist that the RIAA represents because my hard earned money is exactly that, MY HARD EARNED MONEY. I'll support artists that are busting their chops putting on great concerts and selling cd's out of the back of a van and encouraging you to rip it to your computer. Screw all those so called 'artists' and the fifteen cars they have in their million dollar garages..bastards.
Something else that I have to state:
After the fact, the credit company hasn't been able to offer me ANY assurances that this device will work properly. They haven't instilled the most confidence in me either. They missed the original appointment to install the device..no phone call..nothing. The next day, they sent a couple of yahoos out to install it. It took them 1.5 hours and had my entire dash apart. The dealer told me it was a simple 5 minute plug n play type installation. Not only that, now my check engine light came on the very next morning and it's never been on before. ALSO the device doesn't even work like it's supposed to, so it's been installed incorrectly! The dealer is willing to back out of the situation but since they've already sent my other car to auction, I'll only end up with a small check for the difference in payoff and NO car, which I cannot afford to do. Salem has a very crappy mass transit system and my car is my ability to work.
Why do I care? Where does this type of treatment end? Will it be your apartment next? Make your rent payment on time and have the right to get back into your apartment for the next 39 days? WTF? Why do I care???
As I tried to explain, I'm self employed and my wife has a full-time job but has only had it 3 months. We've only lived in Salem for 9 months. They've told me that if I can get the car refinanced, or sell it, or get it paid off, the device comes out. The dealer and myself spent 2 weeks attempting to get financing on the vehicle. My wife and I personally went to 3 different credit unions in this area and they wouldn't loan us $8200 to buy this car. Their excuses were because I was self employed and we've only been here 9 months. I don't know what else to say..
Salem, Oregon
As I stated, I'm stuck because I signed the contract. But I felt desperate as we couldn't get financing any other way. This was something that had to be done, because our other used vehicle was a gas hog and I spend a lot of time driving around town on my job. We were speding upwards of $400 a month in gas. I'm outraged but don't know what else to do....
I am going through something similar. I've just purchased a used car and in order to get any type of financing, they are installing a device on the car called "Pass Time". Basically this device gets installed between my key and the ignition and emits a friendly chime when I turn the key to on. After the friendly chime, I can start my car. This may sound innocuous enough, but in order to start my car, I have to punch in a six digit code every month in order to start my car. When I make the payment, I get the six digit code and I can use the car I pay for for 30 days. Oh but they are so sweet.....I get a 9 day grace period after the due date when the friendly chime beeps a little longer. After that, the car is dead as a door nail until I make a payment and get the six digit code. Nich huh? And it's not being installed because I have crappy credit.....no...it's being installed because I've only been in this area for 9 months as opposed to 2 years! It's an outrage and I feel less than human. I've NEVER been late on a car payment and I show 5 paid off car loans in my lifetime. You may say that we could have walked (which I almost did) or gone elsewhere, but we tried. This was pretty much the only way for my wife and I to get a loan for a frickin USED car.
I've heard and read great things about Spinrite from Steve Gibson, for hard drive diagnostics and I have friends that swear by it. The only drawback to his current version is that it won't do a thing for NTFS partitions. That being said, he is working on Spinrite 6.0 that WILL read NTFS partitions. This new edition is due out any time now. If you buy Spinrite 5 you get a free upgrade to 6 when it becomes available.
As far as a general software based, pc diagnostic tool, I've yet to see any that actually work with any degree of certainty. SiSoft Sandra, as others have mentioned, is pretty good at letting you know what hardware is in the box. That along with some available "known good parts" is what I do to diagnose issues. I have also found the book Upgrading and Repairing PC's to be particularly valuable and a must have in my collection.
Is it me or does everyone else think that a printer should just print whatever the f$#k I tell it to print? I mean Jesus Christ is HP gonna decide that I can't print out Miss Nasties teet, a picture of the Dalai Lama, or a passage from some book that is copywrited? Where the hell does it stop? This kind of crap will show up everywhere. What the hell do you mean my computer won't let me download pr0n? Huh? I can't go to/. anymore because my isp doesn't 'endorse' that website? WTF?
I wonder how this will affect using Domains By Proxy. I'm not trying to hide anything except my email address, home address (same as my business address) and telephone number from mass marketers.
...how loud the Xserves are compared to the G5's? I can't imagine the decibels in a room full of them. One thing they don't mention in the article, and possibly another reason to upgrade to the Xserves, is the use of the Server Manager software. This software doesn't work on the PowerMac G5's because it doesn't have the sensors built in that the Xserves do. Not being that keen on cluster arrangements, I wonder if they have another product in place now that does the same thing with the PowerMacs?
Consider this...when the I.T. industry makes a turn for the better (this year) what will set you apart from the thousands of other I.T. folks looking for a job? That's right..either that huge port wine stain on your melon...or certification. I honed my skills in a networked environment of over 6000 workstations, in a help desk situation. If I would have had my act together and gotten certified during that time, I would be in a much different place than I am right now. I'd say go for keeping your certification current as that will show potential employers that you follow through and that even though you've been unemployed in your chosen field, at least you're passionate enough about the work that you've kept up on certs...

The fact that AOL blocks 500 million spam messages is kind of ironic considering that some of the most intrusive junk mail I get at home is those damn AOL cd's!
how Microsoft is going to accomplish this, or at least match the coolness factor of Apple. Microsoft only controls the OS and even THAT some may argue. They have NO control over the hardware which is a big factor in Apple's coolness, oh AND that beautiful OS! The last time Microsoft was semi cool was when they used the Stones "Start Me Up" in their first Win95 ads.
