They already did this. You obviously have never used the first versions of openoffice/staroffice when it opened up it's own desktop environment. I hated OO back then.
The major problem I STILL have with OO is that I often need to copy and paste from it into a text editor like vi or joe. This never works, usually you end up with a small random portion of what you are trying to copy. Truly annoying. I really don't understand why this little discrepancy hasn't been taken care of a long time ago.
I totally agree! I don't see why anybody would want to work more than say 45 hour per week. It is just not worth it. If you were good enough to get the job you are at now, you probably won't have a problem finding a place to work that is fair. I have only ever worked for fair companies... at interviews one of my main questions to the employers is "how much overtime on average do your employees work". If the answer is not something I like, I walk out the door with a "fuck you".
Honestly, on a good day I'm lucky if I can actually get 8 hours of straight coding done. Too many distractions during the day. Also, you'd burn out quick if you *actually* typed code solid for 8 hours every day.
can afford to get Ipods and Macs. I looked into getting an Ipod but found that for the same high price I could get a different brand of MP3 player with a ton of more features. But, regardless, my wife would kill me if I bought a "toy" that expensive, whether it be Ipod or any of the others.
Having to support a family, pay mortgage, loans, credit cards, etc.. doesn't allow me to buy fun things.
has Sun been marketing their computers at the home and business user? how many Sun computer stories do you read on Slashdot? how many Mac stories? case closed.
Valve realizes that the immense popularity of their games would not exist if it weren't from the free advertizing it gets from kids around the world who pirate their stuff. Loses over half of player base, causing the game to suffer in the long run.
Not that well. Linux is leaps and bounds ahead of Solaris in terms of hardware support on x86.
Don't be such a Solaris fanboy, you know you'll just lose in the end.
Even if Sun concentrated on x86 hardware support, and did a bunch of other great things, they will never overtake Linux. Why? Because Linux is truly open-source, whereas Solaris is not. Solaris still has a company behind it, which may fail in the long run, leaving behind a dead product.
This is obviously wishful thinking from the Sun-lovers crowd.
Now EVERY TECHIE knows what he said and it will haunt him for the rest of his life when Solaris has long gone and Linux is the king of all OS's.
Really, how goddamn stupid do you have to be to make such a ludicrous claim? Afterall, we all know that nobody needs more than 640K of RAM, the world will only ever need a handful of computers, and MP3 is dead.
I have digital cable TV but not a PVR... and I've been thinking of just getting rid of the cable altogether... as I hardly ever watch it. Most of my space time is spent on the computer/internet. I mean, I really live on the internet... I work on it, I shop on it, I play on it, I interact with other on it. They might as well just give me a VR helmet, hook up feeding and excretion tubing, and electric pulse wires to keep my muscles from atrophying.
I dream of the day I can sit down on my virtual couch and watch my virtual television while munching on virtual snacks.

Metal happens to be this supermouses.
and the mousepad to "conveniently" electrocute you when you download those MP3s.

you just being honest, as apposed to people here saying that they code 60+ hours per week with no problem. whatever.
Is it just me? Am I a wimp?

is what you might be looking for.
Hmm, this is why I quit watching TV altogether, never could find any good content.
No, I don't think so. CD's are still popular! I mean, how much music can I buy on DVD or anything other than CD?

I simply don't know what you're talking about.
Well, gee, I've been using LIMIT ## at the end of my mysql statements and it seems to work just fine.
Linux Cookbook, CSS Cookbook, and Java Cookbook.
Out of all the computer books I own, I keep coming back to the Cookbooks over and over.
You need to add "LIMIT 10" to the end of your sql statement.
Linux Server Hacks, Knoppix Hacks, and Network Security Hacks.
Been using Linux as server for an ISP company since 1995. Not just a hobby. Not just a philosophy.
Unfortunately for you, the "philosophical garbage" is a huge driving force behind Linux. Like it or not, you lose.
There is a whole philosophy and way of life behind it. Solaris can't touch Linux. Not even a bit.

Kind of sad actually.

HA HA HA HA HA!
