TiVo's got the name-brand recognition, which is good, but it seems like they need to make some marketing efforts pinpointing what differentiates them from their primary competitors.
"Is this is a realistic investment considering most companies don't last 100 years?"
Do you even need to ask? This is almost on the level of selling papal indulgences.
"Get your domain for the next 100 years on special offer and I'll throw in this sin-absolvence certificate at no extra charge!"
All they need to do is adapt this so that it displays as a text overlay in the lense of some nifty looking glasses, then transmit it over the cell-phone network and you have the perfect (quiet) substitute for cell-phones (or text/instant messaging).
I imagine this will be sucessful for the next two years or so, but once it becomes normal for people to carry 8 million (obviously exagerrated number) wirelessly networked gadgets then they'll be able to download and rip their own mini-DVDs (or whatever) at the cafe without having to use some Starbucks/HP proprietary mechanism...
The highest quality rips are usually ones available for download IMO. I've done plenty of rips on my own, but trying to match the quality of the best ripping/fan-sub groups out there (esp. for the latest anime & HK/J-Drama fan-subs) is *very* difficult. Then again, maybe this is just because I don't have much specialized equipment to make this easier...
"And I don't need to waste money on a Game Boy Advance!"
*sigh* Yeah, it's such a waste of money what with two original Metroid Games, Golden Sun, FFT Advance and all... Not to mention all the ports of SNES games. I'd just as soon play NES games in black & white on my Newton. Seriously... It's not like a GBA is *that* expensive. Especially when you consider that most of its games retail at $30 or below. Now, don't get me wrong, I think being able to play NES games on a Newton is cool, but comparing it to a GBA seems rather ridiculous.
Overrated I could understand, but being labeled a troll gets me a little ticked off. Honestly, people should understand what a troll is before they start modding people as troll.

In particular, the article raises the issue that there is currently some contention regarding exactly what percentage of the respective OS' were leaked.
"Those who say they have downloaded the source code claim to have a 200M-byte compressed file that expands into roughly 600M bytes of code. Microsoft officials told industry analysts that this is roughly correct and that it represents about 15 percent of Windows source code.
Jupiter Research's Wilcox said a much greater percentage of the Windows code may have leaked. 'It was my understanding that Windows 2000 was about 35 million lines of code.' People who have seen the leaked code say it contains about 13.5 million lines."
I don't think it's too far-fetched to imagine people hacking the code in order to make their own patches or integrated apps for the OS' and then distributing them freely via one of the illicit networks available. Wouldn't it be a perfect comedy if an illicit hacked version of Win2K ran better than the original?
I have a feeling this will one day be seen as a development with the same order of importance as say, the development of the first semiconductor. However, it will probably take at least a decade to sort out all of the implications.
"The new matter form is called a fermionic condensate and it is the sixth known form of matter -- after gases, solids, liquids, plasma and a Bose-Einstein condensate, created only in 1995."
Come on people, RTFA already...:)
She's just standing at the ready, game to perform whatever silly song you might make up for her: a ballad about her love for you, a tribute to your best friend's golf game... Scary.
There are certain lights in my area (Bay Area, CA) that will change to green with a simple blink of the headlights. Not that I've ever tried this, of course... ^_^
I'll not go so far as to say that Red Hat doesn't have some valid points. However, advocating windows does seem like a bit of a punch-in-the-gut doesn it? This is the problem of the chicken-and-the-egg. If no one uses/develops Linux for the Linux desktop & ease-of-use, then the Linux desktop will never improve. How would alienating the linux desktop crowd, or even the potential linux desktop crowd, improve the linux community? Shame on you Red Hat, you could at least more seriously acknowledge the people other than yourselves who are attempting to make the Linux desktop a viable alternative.
Hindsight is usually interesting, but seldom useful. However, as things stand today, I do believe it would be in Apple's best interest to move towards compatability with x86 architecture...
I remember back when the mac-clones were undercutting Apple's hardware profits, but these days Apple just doesn't have the dynamism necessary to keep up with hardware development when compared to the PC side of things. Introducing PC compatibility and ditching the hardware business may very well be the best course for Apple to take. Though, this would make them a rather high-priority target for a certain evil empire...:)
Now they're extorting from students? How low will they go? More importantly, how long is it going to take before these bastards get what's coming to them?
Anyone arrogant enough to suggest that someone else's memory is false while maintaining confidence in their own perception truly has my pity. All memory consists of dynamic processes that are extremely variant from person to person. Your 'now' is a product of your consciousness alone. Invalidating the process of someone else's consciousness is ultimately equivalent to questioning the authenticity of your own. In this lies the way to madness.
Subvocal-to-text interpretation programs combined with instant messaging would provide for amusing secret exchanges during meetings.

"SP mode would now mean 4.16 hours of recording, or XP at 2.16 hours, or, if I'm willing to tolerate it, *16* hours at EP mode."
:)
Or around 14.5 hours of high quality XVID ogms that you can play with XBOX Media Center.

Alright, now all we need is a VF-1!

Space elevators are central to Robinson's 'Mars' trilogy as well ("Red Mars," "Green Mars," "Blue Mars"). Highly recommended if you're into Mars. ^_^
Sounds cool, but I'm not sure it'll get by on just "cool" if they decide to release it in North America...
"ESA, BSA, GBA... They're all in the same alphabet soup..." we all know it's just part of the conspiracy to nab George Kaplan...
