The Bird's innovative features are sure to inform the design of next-generation stealth aircraft, but the plane itself, having served its purpose, is being retired--which is why Boeing and the Air Force were willing to make it public today.
Exactly. If they're making this public, then it's nowhere near the cutting edge anymore. Imagine what sort of stuff is in the "top-secret" category now?

I may be off here, but I don't think this has anything to do with whether or not you actually use the blasted thing. In XP, at least, it's a core protocol AFAIK. You have the OS, you're using messenger for your protocols. I've tried manually shutting it down before, only to be informed that Outlook required that it be running. I'm sure lots of you know more about this than I do however, so correct me if I'm wrong.

It could be good news if it helps these "Media Activists" to rise above the pitiful stereotype you've labeled them with, wouldn't it? I'm sorry, but isn't your logic kind of like saying "The Catholic Church shouldn't have let Mother Theresa hang out with all those poor, sick people...it gives Catholics a bad image"?? Maybe we should give poor people in third-world countries the chance to rise above their current conditions, eh?

How about manuals that don't even have much in the way of written language instructions at all? A bookcase I put together recently contains the following information at the front of the manual: "You will need the following tools to assemble this piece of furniture: " ...followed by PICTURES of Hammer, Screwdriver and Tape Measure...no words at all. Now I understand that illiterate people need to be able to understand directions, but...doesn't this sort of thing just encourage illiteracy?

True enough. Just like Rockefeller and Standard Oil, the railroad tycoons, etc. I guess there's no such thing as a perfect economic system.

    Capitalism does not tolerate inefficiency.

True enough...but the current economic system (which is a far cry from pure capitalism) does so gladly. In a country where economic natural selection has free reign, I have no doubt that Redmond won't last long against the open source community. But in a country that gladly passes legislation that is consistently favorable to a certain large software vendor's attempts to take over the world, does it have a chance in the long run??
