Actually, the only US 'colony' that pays taxes and doesn't have a vote is the District of Columbia.
They have been trying to get a real representative in Congress for years but the Republicans have been blocking it since they would probably be a Democratic representative.
I think you're confusing ATMs with smart card readers.
All of the ATMs that I have used swallow the whole card. The cheap smart card readers don't (but more expensive ones do swallow the card). It's a safer design to have the card inside the machine (to prevent 'premature withdrawal' and removal while writing to the card.)
I'll assume you're genuinely confused and not just trolling... A lot of open source software is available for Windows (that's one of the benefits of open software) whereas Microsoft doesn't usually port its proprietary software to other OSs. Microsoft likes to keep everyone using Windows and their entire Windows ecosystem of software. This keeps their users from straying to another OS.
Actually, ARCNET was first and cheaper and more popular than Ethernet. Once Ethernet moved to twisted pair (from unreliable coaxial cable) it's higher speed gained the advantage. Later, IBM 'invented' token ring which was the same as ARCNET (but faster and more expensive) so they could have their own proprietary solution.
The shock is caused by the high voltage static arc.
The trick is to hold something metal in your hand (such as your key) and touch the metal to the car. You won't feel the very small current that flows or the arc (shock) that will occur between the metal and the car.
I've never used Vista so don't know why UAC is causing so much distress for users. In Linux, sudo is not a problem. I only need to type my password when I am installing/upgrading software and it doesn't bother me at any other times. This is not intrusive at all and provides a high level of security.
My bad... I did read the article but it was earlier in the day and I forgot what it actually said. Please mod my original comment into oblivion since I clearly don't know what I am talking about. Sorry about that...
I agree that aging cheap wine will not make it better but I believe TFA was about accelerating aging of wine and not about making cheap wine taste good. I believe that what they are claiming is that it accelerates aging so that if you have, say, a good quality 2005 Bordeaux (a good year) that may normally take at least 5-10 years of bottle aging, that they can accelerate this to give you the equivalent aging taste now, rather than waiting.
I don't think the GP understands the values of the Enlightenment'. From our friend Wikipedia:
The Age of Enlightenment or The Enlightenment is a term used to describe a phase in Western philosophy and cultural life centered upon the eighteenth century, in which Reason was advocated as the primary source and basis of authority.
The intellectual and philosophical developments of that age (and their impact in moral and social reform) aspirted towards governmental consolidation, centralisation and primacy of the nation-state, and greater rights for common people.
I dunno... but this sounds like socialism and planning to me. I think the GP meant to advocate a 'free market' capitalist solution but this isn't looking so hot these days.
I've never understood why people buy copies of movies. I really don't want to watch any movie more than once so rental is fine with me. Where do you ever find the time to watch 'hundreds of movies' even once?
I can understand movies for the kiddies since they will watch ponies forever and some parents use movies instead of play but why buy anything else?
I have to agree that WinCE unfortunately just doesn't work. I've had both a PocketPC and a GPS system that used WinCE. Both of these devices were dog slow and crashed frequently. Absolutely useless and frustrating to use. I wouldn't recommend to use WinCE for anything. It really needs a lot of work.
Stop whining and get a satellite connection. More than 50% of existing satellite Internet connections are in the 'developed world'. When this new satellite service is installed, you, too can benefit (you see, the satellites go all the way around the world) and they'll be happy to sell your ISP a connection.
If you had RTFS (I know I'm being pedantic), you would have discovered that they only need 5 satellites to cover the earth. The rest are for redundancy and to increase bandwidth. They also state that this is much cheaper to install than fiber. Latency goes down to 100ms with the LEO.
My friends and I also 'invented' the iPod. We all took small automobile cassette players, hooked them up to batteries and headphones. We put this in a small pack so that we could have our tunes while skiing in Lake Tahoe in the 70s. Sony and others came along later with their 'Walkman'.
This was interesting and innovative but should it have earned a patent?

Isn't it a good thing for your camera to be 'very light sensitive'?

d'accord
Four Wal-Marts equal one Library of Congress.
Why isn't Vista UAC as simple as sudo?
Yes.
I think you know Step 3.
What makes you think that Windows 7 will be any better than Vista?

My taste is for the thin crunchy ones.
I can run in sleep mode for a week. Yes, it is good.
This low earth orbit satellite offers speeds up to 10 Gb/sec and latency of 100ms at a cost of only 5% of existing connections.

(I think there's an 'In Russia...' joke in here somewhere.)
