Fortunately, there are strong economic forces now favoring renewable energy. Trump's push for fossil fuels will give them a temporary reprieve (and add more CO2 to the atmosphere along the way) but the fossil companies should be able to see the writing on the wall. Coal is dead. Oil is next.

There are serious questions about whether or not what Apple is doing with their overseas funds is legal. The EU has better enforcement and has been after them the clean up their act and pay fines.
I think Apple is pushing the bounds of legality and is certainly corrupt in their behaviour.
As for me, I follow the law and pay the tax that is due. I don't go out of my way to set up dummy foreign corporations to hide my profits (although I have had advisors who recommended I do this).

The problem is that we are giving subsidies to fossil fuels. They need subsidies to survive and Trumps friends in the fossil fuel business are tapping him for subsidies.
Renewables can compete on a level field. Solar and wind are cheaper (unsubsidized) than coal and gas.

  18. I'm thinking that this might be a scam to repatriate some of the money without paying taxes.
    1. Apple can use their overseas money to buy their Green bond.
    2. The then get to use the money in the US and they can pay themselves interest which will go back to the overseas account.
    3. Profit (for Apple, not so much for US taxpayers).

The US has fallen behind and is now a "has been" country like (formerly) Great Britain.
China is the leader in innovation and technology.
Now that Trump has taken us out of the renewable energy business, the Chinese takeover of that field is complete. They already produce 2/3 of the world's solar panels and half the windmills plus almost all of the new nuclear.
