We JUST had this posted less than 24 hours ago? https://news.slashdot.org/stor... You're still posting politics / identity politics warfare here?
When will you people get that the *vast majority* of what few remaining members you have on this site aren't interested in this. It's not relevant to this website or fitting to what people STILL COME HERE FOR. I'm not trying to oppress women, join an MRA group or any other such ridiculous thing, I just want to come here for absolute tech news and articles of interest, ideally which are logical, scientific and consistent, not stuff which is a matter of varying opinions on if they are true, or politically based.
I'll take the bait though, I'll take it. Are you guys genuinely claiming that you think women streamers make less than men or are paid less? There could be dozens of reasons, let me list some. Women may be less likely to try streaming due to whining / abuse / harassment from some kiddies. Despite the pushy lying articles about video games, women are by far NOT 50% or over 50% of the market. Seeing as most people watching streamers are men, they may prefer to watch men, depending on type of humour, type of game played, perhaps itâ(TM)s just the dedication, men can be quite obsessive about things.
Then weâ(TM)ve got my main point, the âboob factorâ(TM) thereâ(TM)s without a doubt a large consistency of very dull, very simple streamers who wear revealing clothing, play games, poorly, squeal now and then, âaccidentallyâ(TM) bend over in revealing clothing and they really are offering a lower quality product than many dedicated male streamers. HOWEVER they clean up, for obvious reasons (Sex sells)
This is also bad for other women streamers who just want to play legitimately without using their bodies to get viewers, they get hassled by kids who think all women streamers are boobs out. To imply that this is as simple as just a plain sexism thing of man vs woman thing, is insane, the differences vary far more than just the bloody gender of the streamer.
This political stuff needs to stop being posted here, itâ(TM)s ramped up IMMENSELY in the last 18 months and Iâ(TM)m seeing more and more pissed off Slashdot posters due to it.
What a fucking stupid post, yeah my post did get upvotes, because replies like yours are inane.
> âIt turns out that a majority of people like a video sharing website where they don't have to put up with racists ranting on about how they think Obama is to blame for them being too fucking dumb to get a job and women in general are to blame for them being too fucking socially inept that they can't get laid. YouTube sometimes polices some of this shit so most people are happier to go there."
Actually, why not let the videos views and likes speak for themselves? No one is forcing others to watch it. But they get taken down, Demonetized, marked as controversial, etc.
Furthermore, what defines hate speech? Lately? Based on the far left and sjw brigade, pretty much anything.
I've seen jews, blacks, trans, Asians, white, gay ALL being labelled Nazi in the past 3 years. It's occurring more, the criteria seems to be getting lower, it's embarrassing and it's basically my entire point if you actually read my post post correctly. ("We don't actually need people in white sheets saying kill all blah blah")
YouTube is censoring fairly tame centrist and slightly right views, let alone extremists.
As per all Youtube articles the past few months, we NEED a competitor.
I do very much wish, these smaller groups would band together with a porn group or something and make an alternative. Youtube continues to censor people who don't fit the current groupthink narrative.
While "SJW values" are infact generally a positive thing for the world, heavy handed pushing of them, 'opposite racism' (fuck whitey) and what have you is becoming quite excessive across the Internet. Main issues being people like Twitter, Youtube are/almost/ *entirely fine* with people outright saying deplorable things about whites and or males, but if you say something even remotely controversial in another direction you're taken offline. It need not even be harmful or racist, just to be perceived as against the current hard left groupthink.
Youtube is regularly censoring people like this. CountDankula for example made a particularly hysterical mockery video of his pet Pug doing a nazi salute when he says "seig heil" to the pug. Is it dark humour? Hell yes. Is it utterly hilarious? I believe so. Monty Python, Mel Brooks would've done that kind of thing without an issue.
Long story short is people on the Youtube platform, who have built an ongoing living and income can be destroyed at the drop of a hat, due to algorithm changes and censorship. Be it the visibility of your videos or just outright de-monetization (but Google will gladly still run ads on the video, just the person who created it, doesn't get a thing)
I don't think we need a group of gentlemen (or women) in white bedsheets saying "we must kill all the " but there's certainly a line of centrist (not even right wing) talk which is being suppressed. Because if you're not far left nowadays, YOU'RE A NAZI.
Long story short. We need a competitor, to keep Google in shape and that's going to require some serious resources unfortunately.
Also, typing numbers switches to the calculator layout, rather than the location you know the numbers to be normally (hold down q for 1 or W for 2 etc) When you hit the number entry selection down the bottom left, you'd expect them not to move.
Also as I've said a long time, let us delete words, easier. I want a fairly small vocabulary, which ensures a higher prediction rate, the way to delete words sucks especially if the word you want to delete is the one it just matched
Just import people, import an insane amount of people, just keep importing people over and over and over, hundreds and hundreds of thousands a year.
Increase your population by over 1% a year, we do! It's fantastic.
Well, it's fantastic for employers and people in government, road toll and public transit operators. I mean the roads are packed, houses have maintained insanely high prices for over a decade, wages are suppressed super low and employers have their pick when it comes to choices to hire. The government is raking in fantastic money from the high visa fees, more tax payers and the GDP is going up which makes them look great on paper! (But don't discuss GDP per capita, oh no no no, shhh that doesn't exist)
It's the Aussie model, just import import import, prop up a housing bubble, forget about sustainability or quality of living for the people living here now, fuck em! More money folks.
They've been around long enough, there's so many lacking features.
Where is multi-channel audio for a start? Why can't end users help contribute to subtitles? Why isn't there multiple subtitle track options? When will they offer multi-video streams? (diff camera angles for example on some videos) When can there be chaptering added to videos?
That's off the top of my head in about 30 seconds. I regularly think of fairly decent features they could / should add to the platform.
This is google, they're utterly huge, I'd say they now put out, probably the most amount of video of any business on earth. Why is the platform not improving?
Their UI people just fiddle and break and ruin shit (google news) or they terminate perfectly good services. https://www.wordstream.com/blo...
They have stuffed up chat / sms / web based chat options for nearly 10 years now, failing to copy things they should copy, re-making t hings that didn't need to be remade, etc. Their chat platform is insanely incredibly mind boggingly short shortsightedly ridiculously bad! (I recall when Google chat was THE way to chat with most pals)
These guys sit on their laurels for things they should be fixing and they break things they should be leaving alone.
Honestly just... ugh. Please can someone come along and compete?
I have no idea how they intend to solve it. Yet TMSC claims they are doing "7nm" (roughly 10?) and I am pretty sure they have less resources than Intel.
This CPU is nearly 3 years late. Intel are having immense difficulty with the 10nm move. Down from 14nm (which was 'refreshed' twice) What this means is that other manufactuers are now genuinely catching up to Intel, as much as I didn't believe it, it does seem that (I think TMSC?) is now just about ready to start putting out 7nm products. (Note, they all bloody lie about the figures, TMSC 7nm is basically about Intels 10nm)
That does mean that AMD may be producing CPUs with a similar transistor density and voltage requirements to Intel soon, meaning the only advantage available is processor design, not manufacturing process.
Regardless of AMDs improved competition potential here though, is the concern that the move from 22nm to 14nm to 10nm has been AWFULLY slow and it's one of the driving factors in why computer processing hasn't really improved hugely in the past 4 to 10 years. It's improved but nothing at all like the previous decade.
If you're an enthusiast dying for top of the line performance with a deep budget, this has been painful, as you upgrade every 18 months to 20% faster, instead of 70+% faster. If you're a homelab server nerd who wants to run a great little VM cluster, on some mid range, low power chips, the chips you could've bought 3 years ago, are probably fairly viable, still, to todays options.
Intel has delayed the rest of their 10nm processors I think until next year. Means the Intel 8700k 6core and the rumoured 8750 / 8900 (?) 8 core model (soonish) will be the best you can probably buy, for the next 18 months. If you've been holding off upgrading, may be worth considering.
It kind of sucks, I'm in the 'want a nice, low power server, but still kinda powerful' camp and I don't want 85w of CPU in my cupboard, but I would like at least 6, half decent threads. It's possible, but would've been much more likely with the shrinks being on time.
I've seen pics of these batteries dozens of times, they appear to be in a fairly arid region of South Australia.
Why on earth is there not a simple tarpaulin / tent or something set up above the batteries to significantly reduce the heat on them? Surely they get, bloody hot and it damages them over time.
Since I'm not an engineer, I'll assume there's a very logical explanation.
I Will say though, if you don't know, SA can get very very hot, near as high as 50c at times, an metal box in the desert would likely exceed that even.
Long term poster, utterly sick of endless Russia articles here.
I get that we have some politics on the site, but this is getting ridiculous and almost every time the"evidence"is miniscule but the reaction is screeching.
No I'm not even in America, I didn't vote, but this endless ruining of a classic tech site news, needs to stop.
> Wow... so the property market problems in Australia are solely as a result of Chinese investors?
No, not entirely actually, but very much exacerbated by them. When they shouldn't be allowed to buy at all.
> Not generous negative gearing concessions that see a flood of money put in as a tax shelter? Not due to artificial restrictions on supply by policy makers scared of upsetting the large baby boomers voting block that don't want development in their inner city neighbourhoods? Not due to inadequate infrastructure spend on connections and development of regional suburbs and smaller cities that has lead to almost half the nation living in just 2 cities? Not due to...
All of these, without a doubt, also contribute and also frustrate me significantly.
> Oh forget it. Xenophobes won't be convinced the problem is largely the fault of Australian citizens.
Actually it's the fault of the Aussie government, in charge or immigration, foreign ownership laws and of course, the shitty negative gearing laws.
They do have a choice, go and buy property in New Zealand, Australia or Vancouver and utterly destroy the housing market for the locals.
Would you say I'm bitter about this?
Fuck yes I am, extremely, the governments of those 3 places should be fucking executed for treason for what has gone on to the 50 and under people who aren't in the housing market, we've been robbed due to their greed (allowing it to happen)
I got over it, it terrified me for years before I started losing it, that I got all the stress out early.
If there was a baldness fix, you can _bet_ your bottom god damn dollar, the price will be utterly extravagant. Some men would damn near kill to have their hair back, so they'll gladly pony up.
Make it a one off thing (not some ongoing drug concoction) about I dunno, under 1k$? Ok fine, otherwise, I'm good.
I don't know who to trust, but assuming the figures I've read are actually correct, it does seem to me, that Tesla really are very very poorly managing their funds.
They're burning cash like crazy.
Perhaps someone knowledgeable in DD for companies who is bullish on Tesla can tell me why such articles are actually false.?
I'm not sure if you're kidding (because I certainly think the term is hilarious) but sadly, it is the right term, I believe, for animal rearing for breeding.
Christ I hope that's the right 'rearing' in context.
If you're interested in this garbage, then fuck off to a heavily left leaning site or Twitter. Go seek out your political anger fuel for the day.
Why should this site, which was rarely political be bombarded with these bullshit submissions of stuff likely to incite rage and frustration?
This isn't what slashdot had ever been previously, why now do we need this shovelled down our throats?
We JUST had this posted less than 24 hours ago?

You've raised a legit solution but to echo the rest of most people here, screw having those in the house in the darn first place!

Congratulation on your dumb.
I din't have time to reply to your full post at the moment, sorry.
However I'm wrong in terminology on dankula, what they did do is Demonetize his ENTIRE CHANNEL recently, regardless of the video content.
Which is frankly, bullshit

Worms however, I'm not certain.
That place has changed a LOT in the last decade. Very, very glad to not be a Frenchman about now.
Accessing some punctuation recently got worse.

So, open those floodgates, what could go wrong?
The black on an OLED display is BLACK, when I use my OLED in bed at night, it's vastly superior to IPS.
More power to you wanting one I suppose? I'd never go back. Doubly so when using a VR headset attachment.
"No IPS display."

Also the single core performance is getting better, it's not amazing.
Literal quote from my post.
"(Note, they all bloody lie about the figures, TMSC 7nm is basically about Intels 10nm)"
I have no idea how they intend to solve it. Yet TMSC claims they are doing "7nm" (roughly 10?) and I am pretty sure they have less resources than Intel.
Fast enough for you, not me, not many.
High speed doed not need to imply less security.
Process shrinkage is the number one way to improve performance.

Given their skills, their resources and if they had such recordings, I imagine they could emulate a person fairly easily, at least to a stranger.
