I don't want to transcode, I just want a damned good media centre (and a gaming machine!) the XBMC devs had started considering work on the PS3 a long time ago but then Sony closed the loophole to access the video card under linux (or rather accelerated mode?) so it was scrapped.

The PS3 is a fantastic chunk of hardware and while I'd really rather not get banned from their system as I have no intention (or time anymore) to pirate games, I'd love to see the machine play back stuff a bit better. (it does fairly well now but it's nothing on XBMC)
The machine has 256mb of system ram, does 1080p output, optical output, 7.1 dolby hardware, wifi, hard disk, USB 2.0, gigabit networking - it's more than enough to do HD XBMC.
Fingers crossed in 12 to 18 months time there's some kind of news.

    So you don't have a PS3 or a 360 so I can only conclude you haven't played GT5 Prologue or Forza 3?
Forza 3 is a huge improvement over Forza 2 and has effectively rendered the game totally null and void, simply no reason to play it as they have moved on in many many ways.

GT5 Prologue however, you've played it, you've totally played it, do you know why? Because it's bloody identical to GT4 except HD, substantially less cars and no car modding (for 40$ US - awesome!)
Each and ever GT product since GT4, even demo, trial, limited demo, prologue - they all feel completely and utterly the same as each other and I have to question if it's not the GT4 engine simply modified (heavily) for PS3.

Also you're suggesting that the AI isn't the only thing which you dislike in Forza and there's more to it even if that's been fixed, would that be right?
If so, good because there's a lot more than just AI which is superior, things like audio, handling, controller rumble, physics, features (rewind), AVAILABILITY SINCE ONE ISN'T OUT YET, online features, car damage, car rolling,... the list goes on. I've played both franchises extensively and as one person in this news post has said and I quote "I've played all the Gran Turismo for PS1 and 2, Forza 2 & 3 and I'd say its more accurate to say Forza is the spiritual successor to GT. I've checked out the previews for GT5 (I don't own a PS3) and I think GT lost its way. The poster above did a really good job explaining why Forza is better now."

I recommend you check out Forza 3, the series has come a long way since number 1 a long long way - that's the saddest part because GT hasn't done a damned thing really since GT3.

Not to say faster isn't better in the long run of couse but on a $ / speed ratio right now, the 5xxx series just isn't cutting it, far too overpriced - and to think it was ATI who saved us from Nvidia doing the exact thing when the GT series came out 18 months ago. Time and time again the game developers couldn't give a damn and I don't blame them - they target the biggest possible audience.
I'll never forget the Geforce 3 announcement at one of the Apple Expos of all things, Carmack was there and showed off some early Doom 3, it was absolute hype extravaganza. "Doom 3 will need a pixel shader card like the GF3!" So many people purchased one, problem is by the time Doom 3 came out, the GF3 was basically dead and while it could do the graphics required, it wasn't too quick.

My point is, any new tech like DX11, while great for all of us is never fast enough in the first implimentations, you'll see in 18 months time though, the DX12 cards will be bloody fantastic at DX11 features though, this is just how it is.
FWIW I have a DX10 ATI 4890 card, it's summer here in Australia and it's underclocked and still runs 99.9% of games flawlessly, I pretty much intend to completely skip the ATI 5xxx series and wait for the next ones, performance bumps aren't what they used to be.

I am not one of those dopey kiddies who does rear view third person just to see my car, that's not racing at all, it's just that both games's cockpit view is simply too small to see anything, it's all to do with FOV and TV size - if you do the cockpit view in Forza 3 with 3 TV's and 3x360's and 3x the game, it looks great (yes, it supports that)

Essentially roof cam is cockpit, with no dials - also my TV doesn't support depth of field like my eyeballs do, tuning out the dash of the car and the roof / doors.
