  1. Might be a bit off topic but... on Child's Play 2007 Gets Underway · · Score: -1, Flamebait

I was just browsing the list of hospitals that you are able to donate to and found that there is a hospital in Toronto called "Hospital for Sick Children." Now call me pedantic if you must but wouldn't the fact that a child is in a Hospital indicate that chances were that the kid was indeed sick? Isn't it just a little redundant to say the Hospital is for Sick Kids?

Also this is a terribly unimaginative name! Who was the guy who though that up?

  9. Re:It's drivel on Choice Overload In Parallel Programming · · Score: 1

Logically thinking thats how you'd hope people would act, but you would be wrong.

When someone is presented with a large number of options, with no real objective way to quantify the difference between them, people often choose to go without rather then risk making the "wrong" choice.

Imagine going in to buy a dishwasher, assuming you don't trust what the salesman says and you have no ideas about what makes a good dishwasher, you are pretty much SOL when it comes to being able to tell the difference between what is a good one and what isn't. So what do you do? A lot of people decide to put off the purchase, even if they really do need a dishwasher.

I'm reasonably sure I read some research about this phenomena somewhere. Therefore I've pretty much proven that I am correct.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
