Why not have the best of both worlds? Have all your new fancy interface and a start button? Same with Unity, although I finally have gotten use to it, I still miss the traditional (GNOME 2) "Start" button.
Actually, Tempest works great with emulator. Your mouse is a very good replacement for the dial of the original. I haven't tried it in at least a decade, but I think I might now. Can you run emulators on a 64 bit OS?
Yeah, We used to play space invaders with the TV turned off to see how many levels we could get through without looking. One person would play, and the other one would turn the TV on about every 2-3 minutes just long enough to see if the game was over.
Wouldn't it have been easier and more fun (for the people not playing) to leave the TV on and have the player turn around?
And don't blame Atari. Blame the idiots at Warner Communications who decided in 1983 to sell-off the company on the belief that videogaming was a "fad" whose time had passed.
Interesting, I remember when laser disc arcade games like "Dragon's lair" came out. They were supposed to revitalize a slumping arcade industry. I just looked it up and Dragon's Lair came out in 1983. I was an arcade addict at the time and remember it well, arcade games had stagnated and computers lacked the "horse power" to get to the next level of visual effects. I believe it was Gauntlet that was one of the first big hits, post laser disc, that really "rescued" video games. It didn't need great graphics (although we all thought it was really cool at the time), it just needed to be massively addicting and awesome to play. I couldn't count how many hours I spent shoving quarters into that game.
So has everyone else, for quite some time actually.
No, I thought of it first!
Everybody would not be required to do it, but everybody has a smart phone, everybody needs the newest, coolest features. Don't underestimate humans ability to unwittingly follow where the path takes them. With the ability to text or communicate with their mind, talking less and less, how long before speech becomes passe. If everybody can "Google" things with their mind, what is the point in knowing anything.
I love tech, of all kinds, and it will definitely be interesting to see where it goes. That being said, it can be scary also.
I have seen this coming for a while. Implantable computers, now with internal power supply, Google glasses, thought recognition. The Star trek vision of the Borg, though crude and ugly, may have not been far off the mark. Smart phones may already be making us dumber. It is scary to think where this will lead.
to just round up a ton of rats (from say New York) and realease them in the minefield. No training necassary and get rid of all the mines at the same time.
Maybe you are to young to remember, but as much as it is pointless now, AOL was very relevant in the Internets infancy. In the mid 90's there really wan't much to look at online, AOL help people (beginners at least) get online and "get their feet wet". Now granted anyone with the slightest bit of computer literacy quickly outgrew it, but there were PLENTY of clueless people that needed the training wheels.
No, it is called "Car Toys", not sure why I didn't just say that. Worst job I ever had. The Manager and some employees used to go behind the building and get high on breaks...
I worked sales at a car stereo chain (well known in the NW) and was yelled at on the floor, by the manager, for selling the customer the better product instead of the one with more profit. I won't work sales anymore, my favorite line is I would rather chew on broken glass and razor blades than do sales.
you aren't allowed to be disgusted when the islamic world responds with an International Holocaust Cartoon Competition.
On one level, that is correct, tit for tat, on another it really isn't (IMHO). Drawing pictures of Mohammad is more like when Family Guy makes fun of Jesus, it is kind of taboo, and bothers people, but in the end no harm done. Making fun of 6 million people dying is on a completely different level, infinitely worse then "cartoons".
I use Linux 99% of the time, I am just pointing out your odd reasoning. Use it or don't because it is useful or not, not because you don't like others that use it.
If Slashdot had an edit feature, I could delete this after noticing the previous identical post.
the Sega Dreamcast w/ 550 games. The best console that never made it hands down.
What the heck is a "write off"?

Just give us both!
Troll much? AC...

Meh...

42. 42 kaons. Ha, ha, ha!
I wonder if this is the first time Sesame Street and HHGTTG have ever been combined into one geek reference?
It was nice reading your post, I wonder where HLS will "disappear" you to..."
Ya, but that was kind of wordy...
For over 18 Deloreans...

Have you not seen Ironman? How else can you easily and quickly design custom metal suits?

It's windows advocates like you that feel the need to insult that had driven me away from even considering windows anymore.
You won't use Windows because your feelings are hurt? I have thought of plenty of reasons not to use Windows, but that is a new one.
The start button seems to be missing
I have that problem in unity also...
