They can still be sued as a "media of distribution of copyright violating content".

The can't log dccs due to the dcc protocol, only dcc initiation requests.

I agree, it became so unstable, it was not proper for chat, now not even for file traders.

Perhaps it will become more stable now, but I guess, most servers will be out after this

Most people that share movies and stuff on irc are no longer using Dalnet or Undernet, not even EFnet or the most crowded of all, Quakenet(yes, it is the most popular). It is small well hidden or just not popular enough to get the attention of most people private servers of 5-10 channels that first hit releases.

At this point it would be nice an interview to the IRC admins of DALnet to find out whether this is a result of a legal threat or just their opinion.

Maybe they got the attention of media after their DoS attack hence the attention of legal authorities? who knows, but I'd be really interested to find out.

And btw, yes, it is mostly warez what is shared on IRC.

To be honest, I've never seen "legal" anything being shared on irc except via DCC between users, on bots there is always some kind of illegal distrbution or just at the 99.9% of the time.

What do you expect from a program that is produced by the mainstreem industry of "do it in ten days because we pay _you_, and _you_ have a dead line".

A real programmer is an artist.

Have you seen that Microsoft movie editor? It may not be that buggy but is so minimalistic is totally unsuable.

Some companies become dedicated to what their doing so they give all efford on 1 or 3 projects so they are good at it. Still can't compare on a 6 months' work of a programmer doing it at home for him/erself

Like Alias Wavefront, they give all efford on projects like Maya so they're good at it. Or Adobe, they are good at After Effects. But still, they take 1 or 2 years for a single year or 3 months to fix 2 or 3 bugs.

True programmers are artists, and it will be some day, where we all respect programming as self expression and personal efford.

And it all comes down to, the great idea of the international mesh of networked computers. The same philosophy that says tree stractures are a bottleneck to a stable network. And indeed are. A network that feeds from its members, not from the "great master-servers" can serve well on stability and performance. In fact, its stability is guaranteed in a way that is impossible to cut off the net unless the whole neibhorhood gets cut off.

Lets keep this ideas since they give something new not only to technology but the whole pfilosophy the western civilization is based on.

Excellent comment that last one. "all connected to each other in a huge mesh". And the fun part is, most people are convinced that "tree structures" are the only solution for vast networks like the internet, when the truth is a true mesh, not just "I'm connected to you and you are connected to my uncle" but "I'm connected both to you and my uncle" could work really really, nicely and with less downtime. I, too wait for that day.
