Not sure why parent was downvoted, because I think the point about the numeric keypad is quite valid. If a laptop has a numeric keypad, the rest of the keyboard will not be centered, and what is worse, the touchpad will not be centered.
When I ordered my lenovo they did not offer an option without a numeric keypad. I would have paid extra money to get rid of it, but the option was just not available.
Hey lenovo, are you listening? Why do you think a Macbook Pro has no numeric keypad? Litte hint: It's not because Apple is cheap or because their developers are retarded.
Forgive me for being old fashined, but the replies to the article remind me in a wonderful way of this Monty Python classic (of course eith Eric Idle and Terry Jones): https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
If a keyboard has the following characteristics, it is the perfect input device for me:
- mechanical Switches (blue ones, with click for me)
- heavy weight
- rubber feet
- included usb hub
- tenkeyless
This is extremely hard to get. The Keyboard 4C comes close, but the ruler at the bottom is total crap. So I am hoping for a Das Keyboard 4c+, which has just some rubber feet instead of the slippery ruler.
So you mean Google does not know the context? Let's see:
- They know your location
- They know the weather and all events at the place where you are
- They know your name
- They know where you live
- They may know your friends
- They know what you watched on Youtube
- They know what you have been searching for online
- They know all things mentioned above about the person you are talking to
Combine this with some facial expression recognition, which should be possible with iPhone8, and some more context recognition via camera, and you will have more context than most human translators would have.
I am not sure about your definition of "surprisingly high", but attributing half of deaths caused by small particles to NOx emissions is just laughable.
Not sure about the study, but the author of the article clearly has no clue what he/she is writing about. First the article says "10,000 deaths in Europe per year can be attributed to small particle pollution..." and then it continues "Almost half of these would have been avoided if emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from diesel cars on the road had matched levels measured in the lab".
These two types of emission must be viewed separately. While small particles are solid particles in the size of less than 10 m, while NOx is an odorless gas. Both can be harmful, but in completely different ways. If you reduce the NOx emission, it will not reduce the healt impact of small particles in any way.
The author should read a book before writing about a subject that he/she doesn't understand.
"At the same time, there are co-workers who are questioning whether they can safely express their views in the workplace (especially those with a minority viewpoint)."
And to prove that their fears are well founded, Google will simply fire one of them. Got a minority conservative viewpoint? Don't you dare to express your view or suffer the consequences.
No, that was in the old days when websites got "slashdotted" when the were mentioned on Slashdot. Those days are over, Slashdot is not really relevant anymore, which is a shame.
From the article: "And the best part: when I pulled into park, I asked about the key. The car doesn’t haven’t one. You control the car through the Tesla app on your phone."
So this is the best part of the Model 3, a car that costs at least $35.000? Are you kidding me?
is that this only makes sense for very wll insulated housed. The efficiency of heat pump systems decreases with the output temperature. In old houses you need a high output temperature due to all the heat loss, which means that the efficiency is low. For well insulated houses a much lower output temperature is necessary, so not only is there less energy required for heating, it is also produced much more efficiently.
We have a ground heat pump installed in our house (which was built seven years ago). There are three holes, each 90m deep. The heat pump is of course driven by electricity, which then extracts about 3 to four times the heat energy from the ground. Basically you can think of it as an amplified electric heating. Installation cost is relatively high (especially compared to gas heating), but running costs are much lower.
And it would be a great system to store excess solar or wind energy, provided that large enough tanks for the heated water are installed.
We have been developing a web application for the last two years and I have become more familiar with Chrome than I ever had intended. There has been frustration from time to time (lots of crashes in a "stable" version last summer, a change in performance profiling that made life difficult for a while), but all in all I must say that Chrome is an amazing piece of software. I have not seen a crash in a while (and we are doing some wild stuff, believe me) and with every new release Javascript on Chrome just feels a little bit faster. Before I get too sentimental I just want to say "Thank You" to rhe Chrome and Chromium team.
And I really hope and pray that in one of the next releases we will see SVG Font support. That would be awesome.
I actually did work at an old economy factory producing cars in the medium price range. Never heard any stories compared to Tesla. But the unions were strong at our company, maybe that's why.
Is it really supposed to disappear and move the whole content to the right when the mouse hovers over the sidebar? Or is it not targeted at mouse users?
In 1996 a company in Germany called CargoLifter AG had big dreams and tried to build a giant transportation airship, but they failed miserably.
The only thing they ever achieved was to build an enourmous hangar in the middle of nowhere. After CargoLifter went bankrupt a Malayan investor changed it into a tropical theme park, which seems to be doing quite well now.
I sincerely hope that Sergey will achieve what he is trying to do. It would be sad to have a NASA hanger transformed into a tropical theme park.
Sorry, I did not even know one's karma can be that low :)
Preferably one that clicks.

...but the Hackers did not care: https://news.ycombinator.com/i...
Seriously, is there still a real hacker newssite out there? Something that really is about hacking, not about pushing yCombinator investments?

So feel free to cite the parts of his memo that are racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory.

Or the point about silencing conservative voices? Google, you fvcked this one up, but thanks for briefly showing your true face.

And my teacher was wrong. There actually are stupid questions.
Get that San Francisco to LA route working and we can talk.
Thanks for the kind words. We will make sure to let you know when our app goes online.
