Xeon's are below $1000 while the opterons will be several thousand. They are going into super high end servers. Athlon 64's will be for us normal people.
Incorrect voltages and overheating related issues of mobo chips sounds like a mobo problem but not the fault of the chipset manufacturer (Via) or the chipset.
Voltage problems can be caused by a bad power supply or crappy voltage regulators. Unfortunately just like before there is a greater selection of crappy AMD boards then there are Intel boards. You just have to do a bit of research and be sure to buy a board from one of the better known manufacturers like Asus, Abit, MSI, and Epox (they have made crap but are doing an awesome job with their latest nforce2 line).
Sorry to rain on your parade and all (it's true I really am sorry) but the opteron will be more expensive then what you would spend on an entire PC. It may be cheaper then the itanium but it seems the pricing for this chip will be in the thousands of US Dollars. Opteron's (Sledgehammer) will be mostly for servers and high-end workstations (targeting Itaniums market).
However the Athlon 64 (*hammer - tasty but not nearly as Juicy as the Opteron) will be sold for people like you and me. These will start out expensive like the Barton 3000+ chip did when it came out.
High-end and the most heat producing amd's produce LESS heat then the high-end p4's. I was looking at a heat dissapation chart and noticed that amd's top out at around 75 watts and p4's top out at the upper 85's. If i can find it again I will definately post it here.
Intel comes with higher quality heatsink and the heatspreader (note that the heatspreader is bad for performance hsf setups but help with lower quality ones, specially ones with not so great contact).
I have seen 300 mhz pentium II's (you know the crap processors with the 1/2 speed cache) do exactly what you described. How can they possibly process mpeg2? Simple that person's vidcard (tnt2) also had on board dvd mpeg2 acceleration of some sort (it's been a while I forget). It's not hard to imagine a celeron 677 doing that at all with full speed cache.
Funny you mention that because it's really the non-action eps that got me hooked earlier on. Also you really should watch the Japanese version subbe or something. I can't stand the screaming in the American version.
Okay so it's not really deep in the normal sense but it is entertaining. I hated my first 6 episodes that i watched. Had a cousin that really liked it...
then something happend and i got obsessed, and made this site dbzn.net
He did more specific stuff then from the block of data below from encyclopedia.com, but I'm not finding it on the net... yet...
Iraqi political leader and president (1979-). A member of the Ba'ath party , he fled Iraq after participating (1959) in an assassination attempt on the country's prime minister; in Egypt he attended law school. Returning to Iraq in 1963 after the Ba'athists briefly came to power, he played a significant role in the 1968 revolution that secured Ba'ath hegemony. Hussein held key economic and political posts before becoming Iraq's president in 1979.
It is true that they were worse off after the war with Iran. But Saddam was in power before then and he did make some excellent economic and social moves before the war.
Your report comes from a heavily biased source btw. It doesn't mention Saddam's pre-war rule at all even if it was short most people consider it highly successful.
Hello, from the outside this might sound great but in reality it's not gonna change how most if anything is done in schools. Most teachers will never touch the terminals or anything *nix like that. To them this is just like OX 9 but with a different and more pretty GUI. My god, even our school techs will not touch the terminal and aren't very good at it.
Whenever anything is needed to be done with the terminal or anything with our OS X server they usually contact me.
Also non tech teachers will continue to be non techs, sucking at both mac and pc platforms. You say that apple users are better with computers but in reality what your observation supports is that those who use multiple platforms are better with computers.
This will not help the *nix community much at all. I don't think apple has the capacity to make their machines much more popular soon and most people don't give a crap about the *nix underpinnings.
Before the economic sanctions + war vs. the USA, Iraq was doing excellently economically and it's people were thriving. They were probably one of the best off countries in the Middle East under Saddam.
I don't like Saddarm but let's criticize him on more valid points. If you want cruelty you can attack him on his tyrannical rule and his version of the Gestapo.
Overture is and always has been a pay per click search engine. The higher you bid per click the higher your results in the search engine, nothing to do with relevancy of the search item till your finished with the bidded results. Alta Vista will be used for more ppc and for it's existing customer base.
Overture is not a money loser and it has been making plenty of money. It has had 200 million in revenue last quarter and actually posted a profit.
Oh, it was my personal data and precious none the less. All of my work data is safe and in a separate machine with backups.
I've already dropped the importance of that data and am no longer depressed. This happend a while ago...
I will definately hate them anyway! Two months is way too short for hd life... I now keep backups of important stuff in different places. My new wester digital drive, is already 3 months old and will probably last me two years at the least.
I'll never buy one of these again either... They make a crapload of noise. From now on I'll read about the hard drive noise in reviews and personal accounts before I buy a again.
Aluminum is hardly used for looks... Mostly used for the heat dissapation and lightness factor compared to steal cases. This is why Lian-Li's cases are doing so well. They have the plainest and most boring looking cases but still sell really well. Especially among overclockers and case modders.
Just a year ago, i transferred all of my important data to a new IBM HD. I was pressed for space at the time so i deleted my old copies in the older. Within 2 months that hard drive died and took all of my precious data with it.
5 years of my life, all GONE! It was quite depressing really. Since then i have vowed to never buy a IBM hd or any IBM products ever again (not because they'll fail again, but just because they killed my data!!!)
Our society does rely on computers heavily but the crime should be related to what you do or how much damage you cause.
Stealing the horse of someone who is in the middle of nowhere in the west would be the worst thing you can do to someone short of torturing them to death (which could happen if their horse is gone). Especially if the victim is in the desert.
If you use computers to damage any entity greatly then you should get the appropriate amounts of punishment.
This isn't about doing something simple and causing huge amounts of destruction to infastructures or something else and getting huge punishments.
The problem now is that doing the SAME amount of damage using the computer gets you a far worse sentencing then doing it without a computer.
Remember the computer is a tool, you can do a lot of damage or not. Those who do little damage shouldn't have to do the time for huge crimes.
As a server admin i've had to patch almost every crucial software on my webserver. Apache had a vulnerability with ssl, sendmail, had problems, and even OpenSSH (secure telnet shell) had to be patched recently.
NFORCE 2 is shaping up to be an excellent chipset, stability wise and more (I won't argue against the fact that intel may have better working drivers). Also AMD will be integrating more chipset features (memorty controllers) into the processor in the future because of problems like this.
But Nvidia's new cards use a more complicated memory setup so i wouldn't be surprised if the driver updates have dramatic improvements for the fx as well.

Some of the best selling multiplayer games have them. Starcraft for example... Still played by a gazillion people for free on the net to this day.

Problem with that is that it seems that Bush was all talk as well. I'm not suggesting Blair won't be all talk though.

One would think that CPU's with their higher clock rates and greater number of transistors would be far better then GPU's at general math processing.
I'm pretty sure a CPU processes a lot more then the GPU.

if it was little k that would mean he could only transfer 3/2 kilo-bytes per second. 1.5 KB/s is far worse then dial-up.

MOD UP PLEASE! Right now I don't have any mod points to give but this guy is the only one who got the ATI story 100% correct.
