"That's a far cry better than a lot of law-abiding people have."
Well, that's a whole different problem, isn't it.
As for the games, I still think that selling them at the regular price to someone who has to work a very long time to afford them is a useful rehabilitation tool. I understand your desire to be a complete hardass, I just don't agree with it. I also don't see how, under my suggestion, the games would be a luxury. You see, they would have to buy them....
Yeah, and when you work for half a cent an hour, buying them IS punishment! Might also teach prisoners how to EARN something instead of stealing it, huh?
This story changes every month. Microsoft is starting to remind me of SCO; putting out stories just to stay in the news as relevance fades. Maybe they should just do something newsworthy, like finishing Longhorn!
The U.S. Patent Office announced today that Microsoft has applied for and been granted a patent for The Patent. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer stated that the company will begin utilizing the new patent by, "snatching those 1600 patents back from the Communist Penguinistas!" Ballmer also said that the company is very pleased that this action will allow them to protect their intellectual property and, by extension, "screw Sun more than ever before." Asked if they will be charging licensing fees on every patent in the world, Ballmer laughed maniacally and launched into a rendition of the "MonkeyBoy" dance.
Everytime I hear that garbage about Real taking over someone machine it convinces me that one of three things is going on:
1) The writer is an aging Geezer Geek running a pentium II with some old moldy version of Real Player on Windows 95. C'mon guys, change your pocket protector and get the latest version of RealOne! Stop living in the past.
2) These people just don't know how to operate a computer, can't read options during installation, and still haven't figured out how to change settings on a piece of software.
3) These are merely fans of another media player spreading FUD about Real.
These people use the same thinking processes that cause people to say that Windows crashes daily (Win 95, that is) or that Linux is too hard to install (tried it lately?).
Please people, let go of the past and explore the future!!!
When I looked at schools in my area (Baltimore), I looked for good academics, good research programs and extensive WiFi. I found out that UMBC was the 24th most "wireless" campus in the country and that made my decision. I can access the internet at high speed from nearly any location on the campus, including outside on the grounds.
Best Buy can Kiss My Ass! After all the bad service, rude employees, idiotic answers to questions and horrible customer care policies, this article and it's implications are all I need to start shopping elsewhere. Of course, I'm sure a big company like Best Buy won't miss my $5000.00 per year in tech purchases.
Every "intelligence" agency in the world sucked their reports from the US tit. Funny how the inspectors on the ground knew what everyone else didn't and yet no one listened. At least with SCO folks seem to be listening.
Soars??? More bullshit! 3 million jobs lost in four years and then 300 thousand just in time for the campaign. I'm taking bets that if GW gets re-elected, the layoffs start again right after the votes are rigged.
"It's appalling," said Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va. "It cannot be allowed to stand that another nation can impose its values on the U.S. and make it a trade issue."
WTF??? No country dictates more policy and imposes more values on other countries than the U.S.? This is hypocracy at it's most outrageous!
It makes you wonder how Microsoft continues to get away with these things. And then, yesterday the U.S. government says that it thinks it did enough to Microsoft and that the EU should not be levying such a high fine! Who the heck are they kidding?
Anything about intel is old news. All intel and microsoft do anymore is talk about what they are "going to do", which mostly seems to be DRMing us to death. AMD and Linux are actually advancing computing technology. Intel and Microsoft are starting to remind me of SCO, just putting out news releases to remind us all that they exist.
Mr. Hanky - Understood. Actually, I was just thinking the same thing. I hadn't seen the original slashdot post, though, thanks for pointing that out.

I think they should be allowed to have them, but they should have to pay for them, NOT use taxpayer dollars.
Missouri has banned video games in their prisons. http://news.corporate.findlaw.com/ap_stories/high_ tech/1700/1-24-2005/20050124163019_19.html/

Missed the satire, eh?

...DOH!
Let me shout it from the rooftop....YES!!!! 'bout friggin' time! >
It can't be "kinda creepy." Tom Delay and Dick Cheney have a patent on that, and they WILL sue!

...from the "trying to maintain relevance" department.

I like it! Maybe something with cold fusion?

Haven't we had enough proprietary crap from Microsoft???
Who didn't know this already??? Duh!
