Seems this could expose the employer to other liabilities. How about if the employee was looking up something online that exposed he/she had a medical issue the employer wasn't aware of, or was in-the-closet. Employee gets fired for other reasons, finds out employer was sniffing his/her email and/or searches, sues for wrongful dismissal and discrimination.
And that's a fair model. Make it opt-in with a caveat: you can only use *other* people's public hotspots if you opt-in to providing one yourself. That gives you not only a choice, but a fair value return for the service of hosting wifi from your property.
Dungeon Keeper is the culmination of developers' efforts to move the pricing model away from initial purchase and into in-app purchases
Actually, I'm fairly sure that's the culmination of business/marketing units to move to a PITA in-app-purchase model, and the developers are following the orders from above.
Actually there are plenty of things wrong with it, but it will still get many people by, and frankly win8 has many issues that overshadow the inconveniences in XP.
Around here all the "Radio Shack" stores because "The Source"
Those struggled too for awhile but seem to be doing better these days. I actually recommend them to people quite often for small stuff like cheap USB sticks, MMC cards, or USB mice. A $9.9/16GB USB stick is good enough for Joe Average to dump a backup of his/her documents onto.
They also do a lot of cellphone stuff, and have various little gizmos that I suppose some people buy, and their salespeople seem to be slightly less of a brainwashed PITA drone than the people at Best-Buy/Future Shop (seriously, my last foray to FS almost made me want to throw up when I heard the sales guy talking to some poor schmo about how the Win8 interface is "revolutionary" because it lets you your PC like a tablet, with apps).
Police: Hey, can you add something to the contract to prevent us from revealing use of your device, so that we have an excuse not to ask for a warrant. We'll pay an extra 10% Vendor: Sure! Doesn't hurt us, and it's worth more money.
Maybe eventually somebody will find a way to harvest and use the oil. Perhaps after there's not enough oil being pulled from the ground they'll look at reclaiming some of that which was spilled.
Very few countries allow foreign ownership of property; the U.S. is one of the few which does; Japan, China, Mexico, the Philippines, Australia, and Thailand, among others
Canada, as well, which is causing similar issues with property costs in the areas of Vancouver and various other large cities.
I have a computer which doesn't really shut down fully, but rather has one of those motherboards that will keep powered up enough to charge USB devices etc. It's annoying as the PSU also has a bit of a whine from either the capacitors or transformers.
My solution is an old single-outlet power-bar which has an on/off button. It plugs into the regular power-bar, and then the computer plugs into it. When I'm not using the computer, I just turn off the juice at the bar.
For those worried about other electronic devices with cameras etc, I'd imagine a similar method would work. If in doubt, pull the plug.
Does a placebo have to be something which has no effect? For somebody who is coming off of another painkiller, wouldn't a better placebo be what they're already taking?
Indeed. Imagine you're a model. You're given a contract to model for a new line of underwear, or whatever. You expect that you might show up on a Haynes ad, but unbeknownst to you, they actual use your image - with a little photoshopping - in a propaganda ad (maybe a hate ad etc).
The original contract was to be an underwear model. The use of your image is not valid in the new context.
In this case, the woman contracted for a movie of one type, then had her lines dubbed-over and was used for something completely different.
The bigger issues I've found in linux are a) Sound. Using DOTA2 for an example, you get one option for the sound card, without any pulse/alsa channel or device selections. My system has a soundcard, HDMI audio, and USB headset. Switching outputs is easier in 'nix than windows (in the same area as volume control, you can redirect a playback stream: NICE), but getting the Microphone input to work consistently can be very frustrating.
b) Load times in Linux seem longer. For whatever reason, the assets also appear to be larger which is probably a contributing factor. Perhaps there's some licensing issues between how assets are compress between the two OS's, leading Linux to be a bit bigger.
That said, once the game is going DOTA2 and L4D2 are just as good in 'nix as windows. In fact, the window-switching is better/smoother so you can alt-tab without killing your game or dealing with annoying stutters.
Also a *much* better SPAM filter than competitors. They were also the first ones to offer a fairly hefty chunk of space, which later pushed MSN/hotmail/Yahoo and various ISP's to up their offerings to compete.
Ditto here. I took a fairly crappy, high-stress job where I managed to do good things (improved infrastructure and learned a lot in the process). The job was a killer, but if I hadn't worked there I probably wouldn't have had the additional experience and lines on my resume that got me my current (better) job.
Code completion is great. Trying to remember the exact syntax of internal libraries is one thing, but trying to remember how all the functions are overloaded when dealing with custom libraries is even worse.
Err... did it have an "int" here and a "char *", or was that a String... damn.
When I order from the USA (to Canada), I go with USPS/Canada-Post because they're the only ones that don't bend me over with exorbitant duties, for which UPS/Fedex/Loomix sometimes charge 20% or more of the actual item cost.
Not genuine? it's probably our mistake, but lets disable your system anyway.
Yeah, I got bitten by this one last weekend. In the middle of a game, suddenly the system yanks me out of fullscreen into a "we don't recognise this computer" screen. License key matches. The license and machine were 100% legit. The only hardware change was moving to an SSD *THREE MONTHS EARLIER*, and suddenly they've locked me out with no warning.
I had to call their support line and go through the B.S. of digging out my serial key, entering my authorization code (multiple columns of 5-6 digits), and then entering their response codes (more digits) to an annoying . After that the machine returned to working order.
Screw M.S. Locking me out of the sytem that I *paid* for with no good reason. Why is it that paying for an OS is less convenient than not.
Is the tower needed to proceed with the fracking? If one were publicly supporting fracking (or anything, really) - but didn't want it done near my house - complaining about something peripherally related in order to block the fracking would probably "look" better.
But workers first determined that the alarm and information from the gauges were malfunctions, as they found no abnormalities around the tank, at least when the alarm went off.
Seriously, this isn't stuff that you shrug your shoulders on and ignore. Fire them, and possibly charge them (employees and employer) with whatever Japan's equivalent to "criminal negligence" is
They also like to roll in crap and/or eat it (when it comes from other animals). They may have a more "sensitive" sense of smell but it doesn't mean they're attracted/repelled by the same smells as humans.
That said, my buddy's dog - a doberman - dropped a few gas-bombs on him, so he decided to fight back after eating some rather greasy food. Now all he has to do is turn his backside towards the dog as if he's farting, and its eyes grow wife, ears perk, and it runs for the hills. It's pretty funny to see a huge powerful dog scared of one man's arse.

They claimed there higher prices were because they had better trained employees. The employees didn't see that money.
If they did/paid-for the training of employees, that would seem fair to me. Chances are though, that it was just a B.S. line anyhow.
"Why does a mirror reverse left-and-right but not up-and-down?"
It doesn't reverse left and right. It reflects.
The image from the mirror is as it would be from an observer facing you, kinda like the difference between "stage left" and "personal left"

If your spouse wants to drag you through hell in the legal system, what do you think it'll be like to be forced to keep on living with them?
Or we could just fix things so that one spouse cannot weaponize the legal/custodial system and bankrupt/ruin the life of another spouse through it...

Does this already exist?
As opposed to this and this from the MS camp?
