    A lousy job is selling legitimate products that entirely desirable (or possibly acceptable) by most call recipients.
    A lousy job doesn't require fraud. I don't get the debt-collection calls, but I regularly do get those "you have one a million airmiles" bullshit scams. That's a scam, and fraud.

    In one, you may go home feeling crappy and abused, but you keep your soul (for those that believe in such) and you're not going to jail if caught.

    While that might be a good thing for the medical industry, I think that there a *lot* of scary implications to that kind of advanced science. Think Stuxnet but on a biological scale...

  4. The Canadian *people* are more vocal about IP issues. The government has been ramming US-style copyright down our throat whenever possible, even to the extent of secretly suggesting the US put us on the 301 list in order to induce stronger copyright enforcement in Canada...

    Not only that, but every now and then when I access Netflix with an older Silverlight version, it *does* prompt me to upgrade. This includes on Mac and older WinXP systems.

    Does HDCP have to be always on? I thought it could enabled for protected content.
    There's no reason to need it for gameplay. The only reason you might need it is when playing a blu-ray or some video etc.

    And how would people know they're not working there anymore? You might be able to let those employees go, but they could still gag you from publicizing it.
    Beyond that, the employees themselves would have to agree lest wrongful dismissal rear its head.

    And when/if I do get it, the console will be used, and will not be connected to the internet.

    Do we really think that's the issue? Seriously, when tons of el'cheapo blu-ray and DVD players work just fine for these same TV's, how is it that an advanced piece of technology such as a 3rd-gen game console can't get it right? None of my computers or other equipment - even my $35 Raspberry Pi - have *ever* had any issues at least getting to the point of startup with any TV. Yes, some have had some issues with resolution or weird font scaling, but nothing that outright prevents bootup.

    How about we just call it what it is. Game console manufacturers cut as many corners as they can to maximize profit, and QA at some point goes out the window because - frankly - people will still buy their shitty products if they work at least 60% of the time.

    I can't say that I'm terribly impressed with the pledge interface. You end up with a "transaction completed" page that doesn't detail the transaction nor does it refer you back to the original URL.
    When I clicked "back" I hit an autoforward URL, so I'm hoping it was at least smart enough to put in a transaction ID and not attempt the transaction multiple times.

    Why? It's not like anyone who's been waiting for *years* won't buy it if it comes out in windows a month or two after the Steam Machine/Linux.
    However, holding back might net them more adoption in the other areas.

    Given my experiences with regular printers in High Schools, (tracking down some random student who had printed a few dozen pages of profanity to a shared printer), I'd imagine there will be a proliferation of many "interesting" phallic-shared objects coming through these printers...

    It comes down to showing to your boss that you can be doing something else on his dime right in front of him

    How many of these meetings are actually with my boss? While we do have department update meetings, it's usually not him calling the useless time-wasters of which 90% of attendees could probably be doing something more productive.

    I'm also paid to get things done. Part of this includes responding to events outside the meeting, coordinating, etc. If I'm going to sit through an unproductive meeting, at least I can be semi-productive by answering important messages/emails/etc.

    Often if something comes up during a meeting, it'll require me to contact somebody else. Sometimes it's more effective to whip out the phone and fire off a one-line email or IM.

    I would say that two steps should occur:
    a) Fine
    b) Deny any future applications for H-1B or B-1 Visas. If that's not quite doable, just block the B-1's as they're what was abused.

    "You knowingly and illegally abused the process, you're not allowed to participate anymore" seems just to me.

    What's wrong with that? If employers respected us the way they would a plumber who says "That's a really bad idea, you don't want to do that..." that might not be a bad thing.

    1. There is a discussion in the prosecutorial branch wrt. legality of application of such law, and the outcome of that discussion is factual information provided to defendants, that may aid in their defense.

    * I heard this a respond with: state secrets, secret evidence, and secret courts. Even without the previous being common, there's always the increasing use of an "anonymous tip" provided by some mysterious outside entity (couldn't be from an illegal wiretap, no siree)

    The "global village" is also smaller than before. You don't need to live next to somebody in order to learn about them, their quality of life, or their values etc.

    That said, many people just read Fox News and prefer to ignore that there is any world outside their local city/state, let alone country/continent.

    Really? So if your company SysAdmin is secretly spying on your email, it's the CEO's fault? Even though the SysAdmin is the one with the technical knowledge to both implement and hide the spying?
    Not saying that Obama is innocent, but not knowing doesn't make him incompetent. It might just mean that the NSA are good at covering up.

    If you want to fault him for something, fault him stepping on those who blow the whistle on these sort of activities, instead of commending them like he should.
