  1. Re:Improved learning on Scientists Use fMRI To (Sort of) Read Minds · · Score: 2, Informative
Yes certainly. In fact I am involved in a project that will try to target train the hippocampus and working memory components of declarative episodic memory.

Scientists know enough about the brain today that we are can design procedures that target-train a cognitive processes and see results in the neural tissues responsible for those cognitve processes.

An example with working memory. If you commit to doing the n-back test 20 minutes daily, and gradually increase difficulty, you will not only see improvements in the post-test working memory performance, but you will see structural changes in the neural tissues in the cortex responsible for working memory. Moreover, to the extent that working memory improves recall and recognition memory, you will see improvements there too.

In other news, birds build nests before hatching eggs. Elephants travel days to go to salt-licks. Spiders build webs before catching prey.

I'm not saying that these aren't different from what this ape has done, but let us better characterize what that difference is first. How is building a pile of stones to throw different than a bird building a nest before laying eggs? Let us be careful and differentiate between planning, intentional planning, and be wary of attributing planning to behavior that **looks** human.

The emergence of language comes about upon an organic self-organizing set of processes that act, survive, and change within and with sets of dynamic and chaotic constraining principles of human communication. Simply put, you cannot capture that dynamicism in a dictionary and grammatical guide.

    I have a small budget. 800 bucks.

I have heard of this guy building a microwulf cluster, http://www.calvin.edu/~adams/research/microwulf that generated some good flops, at least at that time. Today I can build that very same cluster for about 800 dollars.

My question: Is it better to go with a newer computer setup that falls within that budget, or go with the cluster. I will be doing image analysis work of function MRI data. Thanks.

Because of this we cannot infer that regulation is ineffective if properly funded.

Second, they should legalize pot for all I care. Eating fast food regularly is more dangerous than pot, and it certainly doesn't harm others.
