They are not friends of the free software world, but enemies. If they actually cared about Linux they would not be continually keeping us out of the Blu-ray world completely by their insane DRM schemes. The only reason Sony ever cared about putting user-programmable (and somewhat to highly crippled, I might add) parts on their consoles is to get tax benefits in Europe for selling a 'computer' and not a 'gaming device,' of which the European countries did not find to be a convincing line of argument. As for me, I won't be supporting a company whose policies help keep Linux crippled and out of the mainstream.
I've used recent versions of Compiz, but it is far from ready to become a part of the Linux desktop experience. For me at least, it has the potential to cause the entire system to hang, and OpenGL applications show a significant drop in framerates. While I wish that I could use such an impressive piece of technology, it just isn't ready (I'd wait another year). For some reason, I feel this move is to try to one-up Microsoft and Apple, which both have gee-whiz graphics that are currently more stable than what Linux has to offer right now...
It is actually using a GTK1 interface. There doesn't seem to be anything that would be incentive enough to buy it. If only it were GTK2 however... but anyways, I use K3B.
I've got the solution to all the selling going on: just reset the games every couple of weeks or whatever. No one would want to buy something that will only last for a couple of weeks.
This is a very important development for Jehovah's Witnesses. The article mentions that it is possible to use animal blood rather than human blood for blood transfusions. It is against Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs to accept blood transfusions because it is considered to be consuming the flesh of another person. So, since accepting animal blood would not be against the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses, it may clear up the controversy surrounding JW's refusal of necessary blood transfusions?
Maybe not the cook, but definitely the manager;) My grandma used to work at Quincy's and one time a customer was pissed off because his steak was a little too bloody for him. The manager threw the steak on the floor (which was so disgusting that they literally "skated" on it) and cooked his steak a little longer.
Remember, if you want _clean_ food, don't piss off the manager!
There are still two ways to get around a hardware dongle... install a crack which makes the software not check for the dongle, or have some software which can emulate the dongle.
Hrm, if Ximian can release their own modified desktop, and Sun can release their own modified desktop, why don't we start a project that reintegrates all those features that had been removed or hidden back into Gnome, and call it "Hackers' Gnome" or something? We all know that the Gnome project likes to remove stuff in order to not "confuse" the newbie, so producing a "Hackers' Gnome" could be our chance of keeping all the functionality that we're used to having in Gnome.
Look for schematics on the internet so that you can build your own cable. But if you're not able to find any info, you can play Japanese/American/European games WITHOUT a mod chip on the Net Yaroze, so you can use it for that instead of having it sit around as a collector's item.;)
The publication was founded by the cult Christian Science, founded by Mary Baker Eddy. I don't know that group's take on Intelligent Design, but I sure wouldn't be supportive of that group.

Will Base replace Adabase in this release?

...and masturbating in front of the camera? I guess that would be the most common situation...

They are even going to have a recreation of Methuselah's hands!
Tobacco Air Freshener... Isn't that an oxymoron?
I was browsing Slashdot, clicked reload expecting more geek news, and I found out that Saddam had been captured.
If it weren't for the fact that I was in school I probably would have heard about 9/11 on Slashdot first too.
If there was a LAW requiring hardware manufacturers to release hardware specifications and/or source code?
America can care less about the level of violence in something. America is more worried about sex than violence.
Unfortunately, I think many Christians today would accept it if Ashcroft approves of it.

Very soon this is going to replace all the chipmunk vocals.
With all these new music services popping up, shouldn't there be at least ONE that has a Linux client?

Also don't forget about Allegro (alleg.sf.net), which is pretty easy to use, and can be used on many platforms, even the lowly MSDOS.
I'd be a little disturbed if someone actively tried to find a spot where they can see into my bedroom and bathroom.

Unfortunately, Digitally Imported is down because of the blackout :(
Gentoo has md5sums recorded in it's digests.
I think these animals have a little more to be worried about than having their retinas scanned. I think they're worried about being eaten.
