Creation \Cre*a"tion\ (kr?-A"sh?n), n. [L. creatio: cf. F.
cr?ation. See Create.]
1. The act of creating or causing to exist....
2. That which is created; that which is produced or caused to
exist, as the world or some original work of art or of the
imagination; nature....
Here's not advice: Exchange your lawer for one that actually knows his trade.
IANAL: but the GPL FAQ clearly states that output generated by a GPL program isn't covered by the GPL, so it's 100% safe to use programs like GCC for compiling your program.
And another thing, pretty much all Open Source licenses only "restrict" you in one way when you distribute your creation. If it's kept in private you are not "restricted".
when they decide to finally air the programs I like here in the Netherlands.
Seriously the stuff they still air: M.A.S.H., the Nanny, Friends, Married with children,... You would think they had unused time slots to show something remotely new.
Distributed this and that is great. But a lot of projects are hosted on systems like sourceforge, they have their own tracking features. And most distributions also have their own trackers and what not.
What we need is an OPEN STANDARD that everybody want's to integrate into their system so it can truely be distributed instead of going to yet another site that doesn't want to play along with the other kids.
e.g. > reportbug SomePackage should send a bug to the debian bug tracking software, which in turn will signal the the other bug trackers that are associated with the package.
Apperently I'm not the only one that doesn't agree a bit with TFA.
How on earth could HL2 even be considered genre defining, or HL1 for that matter. It clearly has to be Doom or maybe Doom 2. After these games came out a lot of "clones" pop-ed up (Dark Forces, Rise of the Triads, etc.). It was the true beginning of the clone wars. Unreal Tournament could be seen as a new definition for Online FPS games.
As for survival horror, it has to be Alone in the Dark, it's defined the whole concept of survival horror.
Adventure, well this is a though one since you've got text and graphical adventure. So it's difficult to say which one defined it. For graphical it most likely would be one of LucasArts or Sierra's games.
Platform, how can this be anything else but Super Mario Bros. The first platform game for the PC was even a Super Mario Bros. proof-of-concept wich later became Commander Keen.
RTS, well either Command & Conquer or Warcraft 2. Total Anhiliation is a great game, but not defining it. Just look at all the other RTS game that came out, hardly any game followed the works of TA (which is a shame).
I could go on for a while, but you get my point. TFA is plain and simple crap. Featuring games that didn't define it, just followed a definition of it. It doesn't mean they're great games (well, except for a few maybe).
Is it that difficult to be original? Do you have to use an existing story? Why would you want to replay the story you've seen 100s of times on TV. Just make a new mafia game, with a new story. Anyone played the game called Mafia? It was a great game with a good story, set in 1930. So fund a sequal to that game to be set in 1980. I'm sure it would be much more succesfull than a simple remake of a Godfather movie into a game.

The movie Tron released in 1982 contains a shit load of 3D rendered stuff. They used existing products to render the 3D things, these products where commonly used to design technical things.

Don't know how it is in the USA. But here in the Netherlands you don't have to help in your own prosecution. So why on earth would you even consider letting a netadmin scan you PC just to prove you are innocent? Why give up your rights just because some idiot thinks he can do whatever he wants. Just like with copyright, if you don't actively defend your rights you will simply lose them. If you didn't do anything wrong, let them prove you did.

Maybe current method for testing is simply wrong. Maybe they should try a diffirent way of testing student, maybe a way that's more inline with the current requirements and needs.
I'm sure you would get the same results if you did a similar test 20 years ago with calculators instead of computers.

As for the rest, as I said before the GPL FAQ gives the correct answerss:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLOutpu
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#CanIUseG
Crap, should have used the "preview" feature.
And this new image protection for posting sucks too.

Apt (and emacs) :P
Information needs to be free and distributed and not in control by one person/company/...
Ok, so from now on my webserver returns MS IIS when msnbot visit's my system, instead of the normal Apache.

Pinky: Yeah, but how will they ever fit all those llamas in such a small box?
Brain: Come on, we have to prepare for tomorrow night.
Pinky: Why what are we going to do?
Brain: Same thing we do every night, try to make a good video game.
Down-time isn't predictable in Linux.

What? there's an other way? Now you tell me.
HHGTTG was a radio show before it became a book. The book was based on the transcript of the radio show.

Yeah, didn't you know? It's near "Prince of Persia, PA"
Why can't I while you just did it _again_ ?
Warning: what you are experiencing are the gold old shareware days. A lot of small, simple yet addictive games.
John Romero and Tom Hall had that same feeling a couple of years ago when they erected Monkeystone Games: http://www.monkeystone.com/

Does that qualify as prior art?
* don't get locked into a non open and free standard
* don't get locked into a single OS
* don't get locked into DRM
ugh.. talking about ranting against the wrong person. Should have been a reply to the grantparent.

And you call this news? Wake me up when games are not held responsible for these kind of incidents, that would be news.
