    I agree with you in principle, but not in practice. To fix things, we need to stop globalizing our economy, implement steep import tariff's, and increase the minimum wage to a livable level (~$15/hr).

    I wouldn't bother paying more for a TV today due to an integrated 'x TV'; I'll bet 1% of them will have active development in 5 years; looks to me like iOS or android (moving, evolving platforms both hardware and software) will win the TV box war; not a pathetic attempt by Sony.

    Bah. Why 20 years? The US economy is tanking but I'd bet the Chinese could do it in 10! Self sustainable spacecraft? We need MUCH more technology to do; MUCH MUCH more if humans are to be on the craft. I agree as a species we need to learn how to live off of Earth before we destroy ourselves... I disagree with your reasoning. You should invest in this kind've tech and reap the profits!!

    Generally true; handbrake is the only app I routinely use that maxes out all 8 cores on my box.

    They can be a replacement for people with limited needs from a device; that's a fairly large market. I use one as an additional device; mostly a couch toy for surfing/gaming/reading, and it's a nice dvd player on road trips.

    I agree with most of your post... but I think Serenity made money; Hollywood Accounting is probably the reason. How could you possibly actually spend over 30 million making the film? I liked it but I seriously doubt it really cost that much. Interesting listen on Planet Money #177 about the accounting done in Gone in 60 Seconds.

    Summary: Hollywood studios typically set up a corporation for every movie; that corporation's job it to pay the studio insane fees so the entities which are paid based upon profit aren't paid much.

    AT&T is selling something like this for $99. I'd like to have in my office, but haven't purchased yet; limited to 5 phones and you have to register the phones on the device.

    An unfortunate by-product of universal health care is the fact that the temporary couch potato in your example should be out exercising to minimize their medical bills which are shared with everyone else (assuming they don't take advantage of the subsidized insurance).

    They haven't gained significant TV viewing marketshare YET; me and many others believe that the cable/broadcast/satellite business models are going to fail when their customers migrate to newer, cheaper, a la carte options like free .torrents, the apple store, google tv, or whatever else gets created.

    The only reason I see that this tire could theoretically grip more than a conventional tire is that for a given width of tire the contact patch will be larger on an asymmetrical tire. Just get wider rims/tires if you need more grip, narrower if you want more economy.

    "If the car doesn't have a touch of camber in turns (whether thru camber, caster or other adjustment) then it's got a shittily designed or tuned suspension and this stupid tire might make it work better."

    You could argue that most of the hurricanes in the gulf start as tropical depressions in the atlantic, but FTA the presence of plankton increases the sea surface temperature, therefore strengthening storms; relevant.

    Even if you're using no fuel, the motor breaking is wasting momentum (energy). Just paying attention while you're driving is more important than safety features imo.

    At 0 throttle coasting in gear, you're wasting energy spinning the motor; my car doesn't have power assisted brakes or steering; most cars with power assist are pretty drivable with the motor off if you pay attention :)

    I agree we're not doing any good in Afghanistan, but Pakistan is a real mess; US influenced puppet government, strong anti-US sentiment from a lot of the population, 650,000 active troops, and they have nukes. Pakistan scares the shit out of me.
