The one thing that I like about the internet, is that alot of sites allow feedback of some sort, a good example is Amazon. Someone else put their opinions up and it is categorized so it fits into a section that makes it easy to browse. I want a Sci-Fi book, I can find one and one that alot of people have given 5 stars so I am more inclined to give it a chance...
That being said, I would like to see these music sites with some sort of feedback so if I were to browse them I would not need to know who the "Brainy Teasers" are and what they sound like without be hearing them. I will use other people's opinions to give me some guidance on where to pay attention.
The fact is, I have a limited amount of time, and I really don't have the interest in listening to hundreds or thousands of songs to find something I like. Feedback gives me the ability to make some decisions upon someone else's opinions. Even something simple as, this is a great song or this song sucks, would be helpful to some degree as long as it is objective.
I hear that they are planning to also sue the power company for provided the electricity that power the console.
I am also sure that the TV manufacturer will be involved in there somewhere. God knows the parents don't have greater control over their kids than parents.
Just wanted to point this out, those IM providers never had a problem trying to piggy-back on someone else's network. At least until they got their own IM service up and running. Kinda ironic isn't it?
At least you know whom to focus the security guards on when they walk into your store. I mean, if the only thing keeping members of the RIAA from stealing is the threat of jail then I would be darn sure to watching them every second.
How do you come with this conclusion? Do you know what port Counter-Strike is? How about the next Napster? Instant-Messenging? IRC?
The fact is, that most people don't know that alot of internet applications need to use ports. You close all the ports, then everyone has to use the ports that only current applications are using. Should we all being playing Counter-Strike using port 80, or 21?
You cut ports off you are basically cutting off numerous applications simply because you have somehow determined that one set of numbers(ports) are safe and another set are not. Because something is not currently using port 11111, does not mean some Joe Blow, could never develop the next killer application that uses that port. Oh, it never works because someone determined that the port is never used and it will NEVER be used so it is OK to block all that type of traffic.
Ports are not the problem, it is crappy programs that are the problem.
This is a pride issue. The cold-fusion scientists are trying to get recognition from their detractors but they don't want to have anything to do with it. There are two reasons,
They got burned the first time because the conclusion, it was a hoax. Nothing makes a scientist burn up more than to have been tricked by some psuedo science experiment.
They really would hate to admit that they are wrong a second time. If they look and find that they are wrong and it was not a hoax it looks bad for them. Worse, they back it up and they find out that it was still considered a hoax, they fell like fools for a second time.
No win situation for their critics really. They are going to have a tough time getting any support.
One of the things that people seem to ignore about the costs of shipping good around the world is that it is so cheap to do so. Everyone complains about a factory moving to Asia from somewhere in the americas due to cheap labor. Well the reason that they really can move it to Asia in the first place is that transport is cheap.
If the US wants to be protectionist about manual labor jobs(physical goods), it needs to just up the cost of transport. Want to have cargo ship dock in the US, charge a hefty fee. Transport it by train or truck raise so taxes on diesel. It makes physical goods more expensive.
To tell the truth, I think that it is the way we should go anyways. We have enough cheap crap from Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, where ever. It is not going to hurt the economy much to cut down on these cheap exports.
On the other-hand, this ain't going to help IT jobs being exported!:)
Take 3 autistic children, give them drugs and but them into a sensory deporvation tank. Capture their premonitions of weapons of mass destruction and prevent those events from happening. It worked for Tom Cruise it should work for DARPA!
Customer: God that drink was awful, and I am starting to feel really weird... Vending Machine: Oh, that is the heroine. Customer: The what?! Vending Machine: The heroine. Customer: What the hell? Vending Machine: Be sure to come back tomorrow before withdrawal sets in, I hear that is awful and can go on for days. Customer:??? Vending Machine: Oh yeah, bring a roll of quarters, I am raising the price, have a nice day!

What if the plane was covered with Crisco, or maybe KY Jelly. Wouldn't be fictionless then? ;-)

The use lots of while loops in their code.
And unfortunately most of us guys are big losers at this game and don't like to play.
No wonder so many geeks rather play computer games instead.
Qoute from Warren Buffet,

Why do the people of rural India need videoconferencing?
So we can finally outsource management? Can the head of a indian village do any worse than the head of Enron.
Sounds like the potential for a reality TV show... NAAA!!!
