You need to move education upto the top of the list. dictatorships which are replaced by uneducated people become dictatorships themselves. If you replace a dictatorship, you need people with some education to understand how economics works. Then you can attempt to build up the country from there.
The problem with these stores is that they are all trying to sell a commidity item. There is no difference in that CD whether you are purchasing it from Amazon, Goodies, or Tower Records, somehow do these stores expect that just because they have the product that they automatically will have people begging them to sell them that CD? It is a commidity, someone can get it anywhere.
If they want to sell something, they have to sell a service, give people a reason to go their store and buy a CD there, listen before you buy, or a nice place to relax while chilling with their music. Just throwing the thing up on a stand with a big sign saying *$16.95* is just not good enough anymore.
Your "untold number of eyes" is nearly indistinguishable from "0" unless your open source project is widely used.
In other words, he is no worse off writing open-source software than closed-source. Most closed-source software is only checked over by one person, the one who wrote the software. At least with open-source there is the potential that other poeple will get involved with the project, with closed-source there is no potential.
Sounds to me like you're working with an inadequate number of testers, or at least an inadequate unit testing plan for developers
Most corporations, don't have quality testers and will not spend the money on them. Usually they roll it out to a limited number of users, who will HAVE TO USE THE PRODUCT and that is the test bed. That does not make them eager or exceptional or effective. At least with open-source, if someone is interested in a project they are usually eager to contribute, either by coding or testing, more so than someone who believes that it is an extra hassle to their regular job.
If you're lucky, you might have two or three active users that will submit bugs or patches, but often that's not the case.
Most closed-source products will not even acknowledge that they are fixing bugs, they have spent their money for development, got their money from the customer, so they are done as far as they are concerned. The programmers have moved onto the next project and the customers are just screwed. At least with an open-source project progress can continue alibi slowly if at all. However, someone to pick up the project and run with it.
While most open-source projects will not go anywhere, they always have the potential, closed-source projects have no potential at all. Once the company is done investing money into it, it stops for basically all time regardless of how good or bad it is.
The city has its fair share of malls, chain stores,
I have have my share of pet peeves, one is coming out right. When did poeple define chain stores and malls as something to do
Chain stores are all the fucking same! They can slap the name Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or Target on the damn building but they are still selling the same shit! Noone goes and says, "Hey Wally they are having a special on toothbrushes over at the K lets go and spend they day there!" As for a mall it is a fucking group of little ass chain stores, and the same stores at every mall! So the malls are all the frinking same!
How can anyone sit there with a straight face and tell me that the existence of a chain store or a mall equals that there is something to do, has been mind-scrubbed by US marketing pretty damn well. When there some store that actually gets people to interact at some level, whether with their environment or with people, then that place has something to do. Selling cheapshit out of a what is basically a giant warehouse is not something to do!
Maybe Verizon and At&T? They are companies that have an interest in not being bugged by the *AA everytime attempts to download a file off the internet.
Everyone makes a big deal about about how powerful the *AA are, well they are sticking alot of burdens on other companies to support their business model, it is only a matter of time before someone is going to strike back.

As I recall, they used frozen chickens fired at fighter jets cockpit windows. They were testing new canopies so a bird in flight would not wreck a plane by hitting and destroying the cockpit window.
Actually it is true, Clear Channel is not profit able, Here is their Income Statement They lost alot of money last year, mainly due to the fact that they have overpaid for the stations that they have been buying. Now Clear Channel may need to purchase more stations to stay afloat but the US does not need Clear Channel. They would all become assets of someone else who actually knows how to make a profit instead of just buy lots of other stations.
Another great example is Time-Warner, they bought all these magazines, television stations, AOL whatever they could get their hands on, what happened they don't know what to do with it and it is falling apart. Clear Channel is following the same path.
Does that mean that old gas station I stopped at in the middle of Kansas once is going to send me e-flyers?
Worse than that, if stopped at the gas station to ask for directions that could consider that a past relationship. This law is worse than no law becuase, like the article said, "an attempt to legitimize SPAM." The law is horrible, it is no bite, loose definitions, and remove's enforcement of state laws, WHO, BTW are the one's who have been protecting consumer rights instead of the federal government.
I am sure that MS will quickly sue those individuals who would dare play an PSX game instead of a legal one. The X-Box was not made for people to have fun, it was supposed to help MS make money. They will just have to get with the program like the rest of the suckers, I mean consumers.
Obiviously he IS locked into Slashdot! probalbly because he is not using DRM. If he were then he could escape the horrible prison site known as Slashdot and choose another site to complain about the MS bashing. Until he starts using DRM, he is just out of luck because the site's editors are just going to keep him from going anyplace else on the internet.
What A horrible fate, I certainly would not to be in his shoes...
I thought that the Gnome Invasion had something to do with the Gnome Liberation Front, and I just could not understand why Slashdot would be interested in them.
I think that the best thing that this anti-SPAM groups could do for the internet is let them send out all their SPAM. Once the internet slows to a crawl because the whole network is crushed with it, I am willing to bet you will quickly see new laws or enforcement of current ones to crush these guys like a bug. The anti-spammers have inadvertently helped them from becoming a total pest requiring the government to take action on the problem.
Homer: (Talking to a gay man) "You turned the navy into a big joke. You took all our best names and turned them into sissy names. Names like Bruce, Lance, and Julian."
He failed to explain how people got hooked to the Matrix in the first place. However, I do the story. It came about that the machines were to having to draw people into connecting this plug into their head. Looking for the gullible of the human species, they bought AOL.
With the largest number of customers in the world, they quickly assimilated them with offer's of DSL for $5.95 a month and said that they were phasing out dial-up service. All you needed was this chip in the back of your head. So while most people were discouraged because of the lack of dial-up they were too lazy to change their email addresses so they were the first. Next where the techies, and/.ers. While wary of giant companies the draw for cheap DSL access was too much and it was like lambs to the slaughter. Eventually with other service providers going out of business the Matrix bought them all up and integrated their clients too. The dream of world domination at hand.
The holdouts were the 20% of people who declared that they "Would never need access." They were the one's that went on to establish Zion. They had to dig deep to escape the piles of AOL CD's that were being put into their mailboxes. It was the only way to preserve their sanity, or so the legend goes.
So now you have the complete story, oh and I hire that one of the new agents in the movie is called Mr. Case, coincidence? I think not!

I don't think that patents cover deriviative works.
They would just change the color of the sticker, no reason to keep it the same color from month to month is there?

Now I can take my dog and pretend it is "Space Gamora" coming to destroy the earth since everything is in scale now...

I feel like some of them are "skating" and all I am paying for is a book, a posted syllabus, and a final exam.
So its like college but without the kegger parties then?
Reminds me of a Dilbert Joke,
PHB: What do you do if you have a flat tire?
Wally: If I am you, I rotate my tires and keep on driving.
Cannot patch software to fix one problem and then assume that you any problems that it creates are not going to be more direct and severe.

I was wondering what would happen when a script kiddie got all the toilets to flush at the same time! Now I will never find out... :(

IBM has those basements full of lawyers they feed only the blood of virgin geeks
Their numbers should be enormous if that is the case... :)
Just great, now I will be getting SPAM from someone trying to sell me rope and access to an orchard...

I already know what is going to happen, they make this movie it has some success, 6 months later the pron movie comes out called,
Hulk: The Jolly Green Giant!
and I am sure that a line from the movie will be, "Hulk horny!" Comeon, how is that not a winner?
Homer: (Talking to a gay man) "You turned the navy into a big joke. You took all our best names and turned them into sissy names. Names like Bruce, Lance, and Julian."
At least it is converting the birds it kills into fertilizer so it not complete loss.
