Apple isn't using it's monopoly to get into other markets, but it used market synergy to make two monopolies, one of which is solely for the purpose of enhancing sales of the other.

I bought a TV tuner card recently and the software included uses APE. I also own windowshadeX (which is better than exposé in a lot of ways)..
Somewhere in their code, Unsanity does include spyware for WSX, I'm not sure if it's WSX or APE, but it's in there somewhere. Me and Rosnya (why does he pose as a russian female?) debated whether or not Unsanity was breaking the law by not telling anyone about their spyware.. (despite what he tells you, he's wrong).
If it were anyone else, I'd probably say this long drawn out PR was just a bunch of cover-their-ass crap, but Unsanity is a good group of guys and until Windows trips over its big fat ass and Apple takes over, we need all the skilled developers we can get. what this should've done is created a list of your root directory and put it in ~/poop.txt.. but it didn't, why? because it has to be an apple script that exists.. now if apple has an applescript that erases stuff in the same path on every install, that'd be one thing, but what this proof of concept showed is that you have to know the path to the script, and the script has to do something.
That's why they had you download and automount the dmg, so on every OS X install the path would be/Volumes/0x04_script/0x04_script.term.. otherwise, it's pretty well useless.
You have get the user to download the code by themselves before you may execute it.
Yes, it's a bad exploit and they sure as hell better fix it but I set my DMGs to not automount a LONG TIME AGO.

Mac users aren't the only ones to see a decline in quality and features. Infogrames also cut the revolutionary AI that was supposed to go into Civ 3 (now it's just a more processor-heavy Civ 2), as well as multiplayer. Not to worry though, Infogrames has decided to go ahead with the multiplayer patch, however they're charging $30 for it and calling it an "expansion pack." Right, an expansion giving you what was promised by the head of the design department originally. Thanks a ton!
The same thing happened with Global Operations--It was released unfinished. You see, Global Operations was going to be the counterstrike killer. It had guns modeled more realistically than any FPS, even to this day, it had spectacular visual effects and creative and strategic maps.
Yes, global ops was probably (and certainly IMO) the best realistic FPS ever made, however it had one small problem: THE NETCODE COULD SUCK A GOLF BALL THROUGH A GARDEN HOSE. It was so bad that it would constantly have bullets disappearing and chunking models, even on the fastest computers and lowest pings. It was so bad, in fact, that the sales were murdered before they could even release the first patch (it died so quick they never did fix it). GameSpot, GameSpy, and several other reviewers pointed out the perfection of this game's non-net features, but had to kill the scores all because of the netcode, and the fact that it was a net-only game.
I'm sure many also remember GTA III for PC, and how it was also made almost unusable by the crappy engine, even though the designers blamed the complexity of the game (note how well GTA III: vice city runs, contradicting this claim).
It is a sad state of affairs when game companies think they can get away with this kind of crap. It's probably because the reviews are getting less and less uncorrupted, the audience is getting more and more impulsive, and the hype is getting bigger and bigger.
Didn't I read somewhere that 10.3 is going to nerf all 3rd party processors like sonnet (which this thing uses)?
If any of you are really interested in a dual bootable g4, as always it's probably best to go with one from apple's website (for the price of this thing you can get some serious power). Just go to The Apple Store and scroll down to the "power mac g4" (it's below the software).
For $100 more than this thing, you can get a GeForce4Ti and garaunteed 10.3 support.
