I have a laptop and I find that its nice to have for some courses, such as economics, because the prof will not shut up about the one time when he did something. Although for courses like Analysis I (basically advanced calculus) you bring your laptop and you fail. Its also really nice to have if your in comp sci, becasue you can take notes (if need be) or finish the assignment he handed out at the beginning of class.

You also need to consider the fact that even at the university of toronto that claims it has wireless everywhere on campus, its in about 3 buildings (and theres about 50 of them or more) so you dont get the option of browsing and chatting in class which is probably good for a lot of students. The problem now is that they are rolling out wireless installs everywhere as fast as possible. This will help profs when they cant remember syntax for somthing but will decrease grades for quite a few.

I used to work at Mississauga Diving Services (a scuba diving shop) and i always had one guy come in as i was trying to close to get his air tanks filled so he could get home from work, apparantly he has a truck that runs off compressed air. Seems like a half decent idea considering it takes 2 minutes to fill the tank (more if u want to do so safely, but lets not get into that :P) and other than the weight issue is fairly safe (ie, if they are strapped in they are safe... if they are let loose, and the valve breaks or the burst disc goes they can seriously injure/kill you but thats yor own fault now isnt it) and for 5 bucks a tank to fill it seems cheaper. I never thought to ask about milage tho. Id guess it wouldnt go terribly far but who knows, if u used a 5000psi tank the air density is pretty high, but those require special filling procedures and tank longer to fill.

I have a 1.4ghz pentium M laptop and the damn thing gets hotter than lava. If i wanna set it down i put it screen side down in an attemp to give it better air flow. u sure cant use it on your lap, but its a great laptop otherwise, quick enough, small, long run time. I think the other reason it gets hot is cause its either doing video encoding or running filters on 300mb pictures all day. regardless my dual opterons dont go above 40 with stock coolers, and with my nice, QUIET, water cooling kit fron innovatek (german company, metric fittings but very very high quality stuff, you can use a lighter to heat home depots pvc tubing to fit, and then use quick release fittings they sell too) i never get above 25c. That would be in near dead silence if i didnt have 7 hard drives in the other side of my (cube server) case. at any rate the laptop's heat dissipation is pathetic, why is it a laptop if u burn ur balls off when you try and use it.... sorry about that rant but dell seems like a good company on the surface...
