So a quick google search says the average couple reports having sex 146 times a year. That's $146,000!
And, if you're a complete pervert like me, that cost goes through the roof. I have to call my girlfriend and thank her for saving me from bankruptcy!
DUDE. Did you even RTFA? He corrects himself at the end, saying he that he was completely wrong.
"My apologies to Dr. Meiers and Dr. Serreze, and NSIDC. Their analysis, graphs and conclusions were all absolutely correct. Arctic ice is indeed
melting nearly as fast as last year, and this is indeed troubling."
Sure it's happened in the past, but not within the time range of less than 100 years. try a few orders of magnitude higher. I think it's interesting when people say ice ages have happened before, and we won't be around to see it. By all evidence the ice age sucked, and many species went extinct during it. It'd be cool if humans didn't in the next one, or if better yet we didn't cause the next one, or even better further, we could avoid it somehow.
I do recall the article you addressed. Many of the scientists weren't in climatology - they were economists and physicists, a tv weatherman... here's a forum post on this subject, someone else has already done a little legwork:
I'm generally agreeing with your POVs, but as I recall Iceland is doing an incredible job of generating renewable energy (their unique environmental situation helps, but it's still impressive)
> I'm not an expert but I would guess that a shift to Chinese made chips will be harder on the environment since Chinese pollution laws are generally more lax.
No offense, but where do you think chips are made now? The majority is made in southeast asia, or at least the last time I was in touch with things. Just because the contracting company is Chinese doesn't mean the chip fabrication won't come from roughly the same source.
I'm not a member of the TIA (Taliban Intelligence Agency) so I may just be missing something obvious here, but couldn't any taliban who didn't want to be tracked turn off their phone? And what is it about the hours between 7am and 5pm that Taliban celphone usage is untrackable?
The only way that makes sense is to imagine that only Taliban make phone cals between 5pm and 7am. Which is so far out there that it makes me laugh out loud. Ha. Ha.
I think the candidates want as many votes as they can get. Maybe they feel can get better returns by spending their time on David Letterman, or on some other media outlet. However, I don't think that they look at slashdot and go "oh that's where the smart people are. It's not worth trying to sway them with my viewpoints"
I think that whoever at those offices read the email and said "What's a/.? Damn hippies can't even use letters in their names!"
Except this time, make it clear how many subscribers are actively reading slashdot. Instead of some crackpot geek site they'll see it as a forum for a significant amount of voters.
Or maybe they just don't think geeks vote:)
Well, actually initial eyewitness reports said that his friends were doing most of the taunting, and that he turned to a mother there and apologized for their behavior.
It's later articles that I read which didn't use any references (just something vague like "the zoo alleges that he and his friends were taunting the tiger") and now it's been simplified further to "... a Siberian Tiger he had allegedly been taunting at San Francisco zoo at the end of last year."
It's interesting to see the facts devolve by convenience of telling.
Brand new dual core laptop. Vista sucks. How come Vista can't speak to my wireless router if the SSID isn't broadcast? Why does the printer driver (for a brand new printer certified as Vista compatible... and took several downloads to actually work) suddenly stop working?
I am in need of a new laptop, but refuse to buy one that has Vista on it. I don't need that kind of headache.
R7 mainly made improvements on the server side. Not really any improvements on the client side.
And as to previous poster's comments, he didn't say that IBM is marketing a product that as a dev env is unusable out of the box. What he said is quite the opposite. Because it's so SIMPLE to use out of the box, because you can do so much so easily, it's written by people who are not qualified to write them. You'd be surprised how many companies are out there whose developers (and admin) are people with zero computer experience before working at said company. Secretaries, managers, etc, who have no idea what self commented code or version control is. When these are the people creating your in-house apps, of course you think it's going to suck.
But it's really quite versatile. It's so easy to create an app, to do just about anything you want. And the security model is incredibly granular, which is very powerful. However, because of the knowledge (or lack thereof) of the IT department that can also cause angst for the user base.
Notes has its warts, to be sure. But its reputation isn't wholly deserved, either.
Funny how removing DRM equates to giving it away for free.
I've been refusing to buy any music sold by the big companies for many years now. While it's been the proverbial cutting off one's nose to spite one's face I've been happier overall.
It'll be nice to buy music again, but I still have negative feelings towards the big music companies and the RIAA.
I'm not sure if there's any in the market now but LG and Samsung announced they would produce dual HD-DVD/ Blu Ray players as far back as 2006.
Personally I thought that was the way it was going to go - two formats jockeying for position for years to come, and everyone ending up with dual format players.
I know I missed the boat on the deal, but I would like to procure one to play with and donate to my brother's school (he's a teacher). Is there a way I can do so?

you've obviously never met my cat
Funny, I never would have viewed any of those anti-scientology clips if it weren't for these bogus take-down notices...

I tried that, and lost my palm pilot. I use google calendar when I can remember. It's like a palm pilot I can't lose.
Haha, I like the images in that mix. Personally this one is still my favorite. http://youtube.com/watch?v=EtOoQFa5ug8
Hey man, looks like you left your MS Word Grammar Checker on again.
Insightful? Funny comment maybe, but insightful?

I've been a software developer for over 10 years and empathy is not high on the list of common traits that I've seen in my fellow programmers.

I've seen that happen too. Although, knowing who it belongs to, I just chalked it up to user error :)

This is Microsoft. You're black.
We've been robbed, Batman! All they left is our leather couches...
