You are a fool and a bigot. The vast majority of Moslems have no truck with terrorism. In all my years reading Slashdot, I have never seen the sobriquet "Anonymous Coward" more aptly applied.
Yes, There are non-terrorist, non-violent muslims in the world.
But Islam, as a religion, has a huge percentage of it's practitioners who are members of known terrorist organizations - an order of magnitude higher than any other organized religion. Just as a small example, have a look at the list of known terrorist organizations - it is a long list, composed primarily of islamic militant groups.
Question: Hypothetically speaking, if 90% of all practicing Muslims were members of known terrorist organizations, would you still assert that "There are some extremists out there, but Islam is an inherently peaceful religion!". No, you wouldn't, because you'd look like a fool. In that case, there are more violent extremists than peaceful members, making the peaceful members the minority fringe.
A person or group is a product of what they do, not what they claim to be.
any input on cost effective hardware choices for rack mountable...
Good luck. Most rack mountable equipment is targeted towards corporations, therefore, corporate sized budgets are required.
As an alternate proposition, try using your existing stand-alone machines and equipment but place them on a commercial metal shelving system. I've seen heavy duty (800lb capacity) wire-frame modular shelving in the sub $400 range that you could stack floor to celing with equipment.
And where does that revenue stream come from? The end users. Which are being sued. Therefore, Microsoft will protect the end users, because they are it's one and only revenue stream.
OMG are you really that naive? What's your name and mailing address? How about I sue you, tomorrow, for infringing on my patents and copyrights. I am slow to provide evidence and when I do, it is unclear (like SCO). I could tie you up in court for months or years and you would incur tens of thousands of dollars in legal bills.
Now how exactly do you propose that Microsoft would step in and provide lawyers and defend you??
I think you may have been the person who invented the 1. Do something stupid 2. ??? 3. Profit business model. Either that or you're legally retarded.
And just what do these childish OS hackers expect to gain from this? It is not like it is going to change anything. Yes they are suing people using Linux. But thats one of the problems with open source. If there is a legal issue with the code then its your problem. That is one of the great things about microsoft. At least when you are using their software, you know that you will have microsofts army of lawers to defend any legal issues there may be with the code.
Which is cheaper, buying windows, or spending months in trial?
My ass they will. If I can prove with out a shadow of a doubt that Microsoft has included my patented and copyrighted code in Office 2003, and I start suing end users (you) directly for it, do you honestly believe that Microsoft is going to come defend you?
The only thing Microsoft will defend is themselves and their revenue stream.
And just what is the point of your link here??? So what if they donate to political causes. Every large company does. Many small companies do. Heck, even I do.
"Emachines, HP, Dell, Gateway and others are aiming for those markets with their Athlon 64 desktops"
Since when the hell did Dell start selling AMD CPU's? Haven't they always been an intel-only shop? A quick search on their web site yielded no AMD-cpu machines, much less an Athlon64.
Someone correct me here if I'm wrong. (Not like I have to ask, but...)
He, as a congressman, was one of the main players in opening that network to the world, so he played a very important role (if not the most important) in the creation of the 'Internet'.
Right. Because the guy that created TCP/IP did less for us than Al Gore did. Yeah, and the Mosaic browser team, they had nothing to do with the modern internet either. Give me a friggin break.
The Toyota PM which I have seen first hand seems to be made a fiberglass polymer around an aluminum frame. The canopy is made of hard plastic.
Interesting. FYI Audi has been selling passenger cars (currently the Audi A8, S8 and the A2) for over 10 years now which are entirely constructed of aluminum. No steel anywhere in the frame - 100% aluminum construction, and they are some of the safest cars in the world. The marketing name for it is the "Audi Space Frame" (ASF).
Obviously the design plays a huge role in how rigid the structure is - just because it's made of aluminum doesn't mean that it's safe or unsafe.
I don't think I like the sound of the Toyota's "hard plastic" canopy though.
Do you have any links to more information about the Toyota PM?
Since you are so fluent in Japanese, please tell the rest of us precisely what it is constructed of and why you think it is not a sufficient material. I assume you are also a structural and/or materials engineer and therefore have significant subject knowledge.
Just daisy chain like fifteen surge strips together. You end up with tons of usable outlets. Use extension cords + more power strips to get juice to other parts of the room.
Hint: Hide all of this under a pile of clothes or under your bed so the fire inspector doesn't see it.

Unhappy about Osama bin Laden? Well I guess your government shouldn't have trained and funded him in the first place. Cranky about Saddam Hussein, well same deal - don't create and fund your own enemies, then have the gall to say you are dealing with terrorists.
It's called the bi-partisan system. There are Democrats and Republicans who do not share the same views. Bill Clinton created a tremendous mess and GWB is cleaning up after him.
Here's a newsflash for you: killing people isn't right, no matter what 'excuse' you have.
That's no news - that's hippy jibberish. I have news for you: There are genuinely evil people in this world (think SH and ObL). Those people should be hunted down and killed, as should their most devoted followers. Killing is NOT wrong. It is very necessary in certain situations. It is in fact your binary thinking that all killing is wrong which has formed your twisted view of the world.

1. irrelevant
Because of 1, there aren't any war mongering Americans trying to 'free' the populace
The US has started less wars that most other nations. Do your homework before spouting off. Secondly, you are confused indeed if you see the elimination of terrorists as "war-mongering".
America has no concept of compromise, it just assumes that it is always right.
So let me get this straight: Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden are the ones who are right, and the US is wrong?
Riiiiight. You're not smoking crack. No, couldnt be.
1. Find a wifi hotspot at a coffee shop. Work one or two days a week from the coffee shop and mingle with the other customers. Hint: Find one near a college campus so there will be nice college chicks to chat with rather than grumpy old businessmen.
2. Get a cell phone which can connect to the laptop to provide internet anywhere. My Sanyo 4900 (sprint service) has a usb cable which lets the cell phone act as a 128k internet connection. It's well supported by Linux.
3. Go to the gym each day for an hour immediately after work. You will get in shape quickly. In addition, this change of environment each day between "work" and "home life" will be a welcome change and will logically seperate your evening from your work day.
4. Get a wireless router and work from your balcony, front porch, front lawn, etc. on the nice-weather days. Take time to say hello and chat with your neighbors and to joggers.
Sorry, I didn't get the message. I was busy installing a hard drive but I had to set the MASTER and SLAVE jumpers, which took some time because they are so small. This upgrade occured in the SLAVE nodes of the cluster we are using. The MASTER node had been previously upgraded (both it's MASTER and SLAVE ata disk drives).
So what were you saying about new terminology rules?
This is a public discussion forum, the purpose of which is for people to share ideas and opinions. I am permitted to do that with everyone who I choose to including a random person on the street, my next door neighbor, my congressman, the submitter of this story, and yes my friend, even you.

I can't think of a better Christmas gift for our troops and for all those who have given blood, sweat, and their lives for this monumental effort.

And don't forget about giflink. The protocol that allowed those pr0n .gif files to display as they were being downloaded!.
Seriously though, not all the BBS's supported IceZmodem, so plain 'ole Zmodem was probably the best "widely used" protocol.
Xmodem was for wussies.
And what the hell am I supposed to do when someone steals one of my fingers?? It's not like the government can issue me a new fingerprint.

Him and Clinton both - what a couple of buffons.
people will be thankful to have a anthropomorphic paperclip tell them what to do.
I think our good friend clippy would be better described as "ambulatory".
Um... sorry. He never said that. He said he helped in the creation of the internet...
Yes he did. That sorry sack-of-potatoes said something to the effect of "I played a key role in the creation of the internet".
