-Camp in the passing lane so that they form walls.
Ugh. Welcome to Buffalo, New York, home of the stupidest, most timid drivers in the world. Last year I was moving a lot of stuff into storage, about five trips to a place a couple miles away, straight up a two-lane road with a 40mph speed limit. And every time, every single fucking time, I got stuck behind two morons playing wingman at 30-35mph. I won't even get into people who come to a screeching stop when a pedestrian gets within ten feet of the curb, people who don't know how to use a turning lane, countless people who nearly crash straight into me because they don't know how to make a left turn, etc.
It's not just a driving problem; it's a general attitude problem of thinking you're the center of the universe, and not giving a fuck about what other people are trying to do.
As a huge fan of MOO and MOO2, I tried Galactic Civilizations 2. Honestly, it doesn't do anything for me. I tried with the original, and I tried again when the expansion was released, but I could never get into it. It's sort of flat and lifeless, and there's too much micromanagement.
I just counted: I have 31 tabs open (yeah, it's a mess), and my memory usage is 169MB. I have nine extensions installed, including AdBlock Plus, Greasemonkey, DownThemAll. So...bullshit.
Must we go through this every single time? From M-W:
censor
to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable <censor the news>; also : to suppress or delete as objectionable <censor out indecent passages>
If you can find me a single definition of "censor" as a verb that refers exclusively to the government, I'd be shocked. By virtue of the US Constitution, such acts are typically only illegal when done by the government. It is no less "censorship".
Obviously. But the key still works for all media previously released. Once AACS-protected media has widespread acceptance, 99% of it will be trivially cracked by any tool that contains a bunch of revoked keys. Only the newest 1% will have keys that aren't yet known.
Quite frankly graphics haven't done a thing for me in the past decade- I was happy with SNES level graphics. Gameplay is far harder to get right, and most games fail at it.
Amen. I haven't bought a console since the SNES (though I'm seriously considering a Wii), but I've often said the same thing about Quake 3 / Unreal Tournament. I appreciate pretty graphics as much as the next guy, but I can still go back and play a game that's seven years old and not give a second thought to the visual quality. I still play Deus Ex. Will I still be playing Supreme Commander in 6-7 years? Doubtful. It's flashy and fun, but not particularly unique.
It takes an enormous amount of effort to create next-gen quality artwork, cram every new DirectX feature into your engine, etc. And so there are precious few games out there that have both cutting-edge graphics (which will be unremarkable in a year or two) and gameplay depth (which rarely goes obsolete). Off the list of games I've personally enjoyed, the only one I can think of in recent history is VTM: Bloodlines, which was plagued with bugs.
An impressive effort, given that the Colbert Nation is notorious for ballot-stuffing. But at 400k votes on Rain (only 240k for Colbert, who's in first place), I guess they've also mobilized to downrate him.
Thinkprogress is one of those sites that claims to be a non partisan site but obviously has an agenda (hell a quick look at the front page makes it blazingly obvious which side of that fence they are on). Yet somehow they get away with calling themselves non-partisan and people believe them.
There's no contradiction here. Look at their about page:
The Center for American Progress Action Fund is a nonpartisan organization. With the blog, CAPAF seeks to provide a forum that advances progressive ideas and policies.
They're perfectly open about their biases. Nonpartisan has a very specific meaning: not affiliated with any party. It is *not* a synonym for unbiased. DailyKos is partisan; their explicit mission is to promote Democratic candidates. It's sort of an anomaly in that way. Most liberal blogs (I will always hate that word) aren't partisan.
That is really creepy. I'm listening to the album again with a different perspective. It reminds me of Publius Enigma, which has been ongoing since 1994, and remains unsolved.
Huh? In case you missed it, the album is already out. The files are being provided for musicians. There are zillions of people who specialize in just doing remixes, some of them very well known. And there are many people like me, who just like playing with this stuff. I've been waiting for this because I like Year Zero, but want to tone down some of the distorted noises so I can play the album loud without cringing. Once all the tracks have been released, I'll probably put my remix up on Demonoid for people who want a "less industrial" kind of sound.
I can't imagine what the "driver issue" could be, especially one that would cause folders in the start menu to take 2-3 seconds to open, but let me open random files without delay. It behaves this way from the moment it's installed. Let's be very clear: this is a Vista issue, not a third-party driver issue.
For the record, I'm using an ASUS P5W motherboard (Intel 975X chipset), and a few SATA drives. I'm entirely willing to believe that Vista is broken only on a subset of hardware, but broken it is.
There are actually a couple problems with copying files in Vista. The first is that initial "lag" as you mentioned. The second is the apparent fact that Vista's I/O scheduler seems to have been completely botched. No longer can I copy a few gigabytes of files around while playing a video. Huh? This worked just fine on XP, and it's obviously not a problem on Linux.
Add to this an overall sluggishness (has anyone been able to get folders in the new start menu to open smoothly? It consistently responds like utter shit on a C2D E6600 with 2GB of RAM, a GeForce 7900GS, and not much installed) and various strange software compatibility problems, and I can't wait to switch my Windows partition back to XP.
Though I am not a chocolate freak, I have to assume that there are American chocolatiers who make fine products.
Absolutely. Jacques Torres in New York is very good.
Just because most people in America are satistfied with non-gourmet products doesn't mean that those products aren't out there.
But that's the problem, isn't it? What we accept as "non-gourmet" is often garbage compared to normal products in Europe. So unless you have the money to spend, you're probably eating tons of poor-quality food filled with high-fructose corn syrup.
If you attempt to put real science on TV today you will watch the other 6.9 million TV stations each gain 1 more viewer while you get a dust bowl rolling through.
Not even close. According to NBC, he was escorted by "100 American soldiers, with three Blackhawk helicopters, and two Apache gunships overhead." And he still wore body armor.
Yeah, it's pretty fucking sad that the GP got modded up by two people. Hooray for misogyny and/or plain stupidity. Why the fuck would you marry someone you don't even trust?
Then Yahoo simply shouldn't be doing business in China. Yes, it's impossible to conduct ethical business in a country with a horrific human rights record. I don't see why this should come as a surprise to anyone.
This is probably not an issue they thought of when they opened offices in China.
Very funny. Of course they know, they just don't give a shit. That's why they handed over this information. Anything for the sake of making money.
Look at John Edwards. Clinton has always been a typical Democrat, always grabbing further and further towards the right. Obama is exactly the same, once you scrape off the thin veneer of his personality. His rhetoric is relentlessly centrist, and he's absolutely nowhere on the issues. But this time, John Edwards is truly different. Listen to him speak, and look at his clear positions. Compare:
John Edwards believes we need to reform our health care system to provide truly universal coverage - not mere access to insurance - and get better care at lower cost.
Obama expects his presidency to be judged on whether he provides high-quality affordable health care coverage for all by the end of his first term. We are not short on ideas to address the problem, but what we have lacked is consensus and political will. With the help of your insight, Barack will develop a health care plan that builds on our common experiences and builds the political momentum to enact real reform.
Edwards is still extremely disappointing on certain issues like same-sex marriage or the death penalty. He's not Eliot Spitzer or Russ Feingold. But he may just revive and empower the liberal wing of the Democratic Party.
I happened to disagree with him that buying a DVD is better than buying a crappy iTunes video. Unless you get the DVD used and for a very cheap price of course.
How do you figure? I see the #1 movie on iTMS is currently The Longest Yard, at $9.99. The DVD sells for $11.99 new from Amazon; $2 more. The #2 movie, School of Rock is $9.99 on DVD; identical price. Same for numbers 3 and 4. Pirates of the Caribbean 2, at #5, is $14.99 from iTMS, $18.99 on DVD, so there's a slightly larger difference there. But I see new copies from high-rated sellers for about $10 once you factor in shipping.
So if you're buying movies from iTMS, price is hardly a valid reason.
Besides, Apple wants to sell these movies to play on their users' iPods
Really? I thought Apple just launched a product meant to play videos from iTMS on your TV. Paying for sub-DVD quality on an HDTV is unimpressive, to say the least.
Bleh. Fallout 3 is apparently being developed by the Oblivion team. So I guess expect a dull, watered-down game system devoid of interesting choices that idiots will love because it's shiny.
It's not just a driving problem; it's a general attitude problem of thinking you're the center of the universe, and not giving a fuck about what other people are trying to do.

Largest install base, perhaps, though I can't find anything quickly with Google. With mobile phones, Wiis, etc, Opera is pretty big.
Obviously. But the key still works for all media previously released. Once AACS-protected media has widespread acceptance, 99% of it will be trivially cracked by any tool that contains a bunch of revoked keys. Only the newest 1% will have keys that aren't yet known.

Very true. I actually bought a used album for mainly this purpose; $8 for something I can use as a small poster.
Absolutely. I expect LOTR has some push too, but Lucasfilm (Star Wars and Indiana Jones) could end it instantly.
