as per a previous post, bear in mind that this is not the route Intel wanted to take, but their hoped for 10ghz P4 AMD killer topped out unexpectedly, so they're having to try and find another way.
These figures are absolute, total, complete, and utter BULLSHIT. Why is it that companies and people ever believe the crap about the 'cost' of virus infections that are invariably pulled out of thin air, and in most cases pulled out of said thin air by people being paid to do 'studies' by certain companies (the ones named in the post) with kinda vested interested in scare tactics.
what would be a good for launch publicity is to 'cheat' firefox into the top ranking hit for anything relating to web browsers. Google for internet explorer, firefox comes out top hit, Google for web browser, firefox comes out as top hit. You get the idea:-D
it is a shame though, the p4, although doing so little (relatively) per clock due to such a ridiculous pipeline, would, nonetheless, have really been stratospheric if it had ever reached 5-6ghz+, pure output would have drowned everything else out. You cant blame Intel for taking the route they did, as the problems they incurred were not expected. The fact that they built waiting time into the pipeline to allow data to get across the chip in time before the next clock cycle really speaks volumes about how high a clock speed they expected the p4 to reach. (and iirc they patented the idea)
>That doesn't seem like they are going to fight >once litigation is started. That words leads me >to believe that they would start litigation if >anyone even brought up the idea that their IP >was being used w/o permission in the kernel.
No-no!! i think they should begin preemptive assaults against any closed source shops that are a threat to the FOSS world! nuke em from orbit i say!!!;o) (j/k)
>Is there any particular reason people would choose to use the command line only unless they are working on a really low end machine? I don't know about anyone else but I sit at my Linux box for about five hours a day at work and that would give me a serious headache by the end of the day.
To me it's more about people being rather hardheaded about 'unix is command line, everything else is crap' mentalities. I honestly think that some of these people regard the mouse as the worst thing ever to happen to computers (NO, NOT DISNEY'S)
The basic issue with Gnome, as far as packaging it for slackware is concerned, appears to be that it's a REAL bitch to package, with far too many Gotchya hurdles to leap every time theres updated components to incorporate into your package.
that was channel...five... which, if you had even bothered to research, you would have discovered is an independant COMMERCIAL broadcaster that has nothing to do with the BBC, and is completely beside the point really. In any case the reaction in the website of the comic that likes to call itself a newspaper should have told you that this is NOT exactly a common occurance on UK television. Regarding getting all the news you need off of the Internet, yes, you are right, and it's a damned good thing, but with situations like http://politics.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=12502 8&cid=10478943
ocurring, want a bet as to whether bigbizz (tm) is trying to stop that too? In any case i think the comparison was meant to be regarding television only?
not to mention the huge and impressive website, where, amongst other content, there is a huge amount of content for children, both tieing in with (nonbiased, and non product pushing)children's programming, and also a large amount of educational material, some of which ties in with educational programming, some of which is independant of that. It's the online presence that made me reverse my original view of the bbc being a rip-off, to a really good natinal asset, and worth every penny. (although if Scumsucker Murdoch had his way it'd revert to the former viewpoint)
Corporate Closing of ranks at work i'd say. The problem in the US is the whole system of politics reeks of corruption of politics by the corporate weasels.
>And, since when is a candidate's partisan website a legitimate news source? Slashdot is linking to the website for information on the arrests, not for any other purpose. I suggest the reason for this is that no other 'News' websites are bothering to carry this.
>But, then, since when does/. care about legitimate news?
the problem with software patents, US style is they are probably so swingingly wide based that it's not a case of fixing code, more a case of losing functionality
Interesting issue there then. Is microsoft using it on another, internet based, radio station infringing this law. And if it is, is there any us govt organisation with the balls to stand up to one of "Junior's" buddies in BigBizz???
I'd say it's more 'I DARE YOU TO SUE ME AND SURVIVE!!!!! MWAAAHAHAhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaa' to be honest (damned stupid lameness filter)
the issue is not taxing, it's that they want severely overburdensome 'features' built into voip allowing them to 'wiretap' (not a very good description for intercepting voice data in this manner) with impunity and ease.
oftel do not exist any more. its 'Ofcom', and its much much much better. The Head of ofcom seems to be a real go getter, and someone who really understands the issues.
>Note to parent: If you've opened the game, you ain't getting your money back.
you are if you go through the courts.....
Because i see no journalism on CBS :)
Truer than the bullshit spouted as the truth by the U.S. networks.
when their actions start being unfair, immoral, illegal, and predatory maybe?

Because it's always assumed unless you select the opposite.
>Jobs didn't code OS X.
But wasn't alot of it based on NextSteP or whatever it was? (a creation of Jobs' company)

It seems to have been suppressed somehow.

And when do Fox/CNN/NBC care about the same?
i thought winamp could legally play wma, as long as it respected the DRM infection?
