I buy Mac BECAUSE it is more expensive as I assume it is worth it. Just like a Merc or any other carmaker that has a reputation to keep up. These brands cannot afford to cock up too much as their reputation is one of the primary assets. Apple does cock up every now and again but generally it's products feel well made and are reliable. I consider it best of breed together with a few other brands: Nokia phones, Volvo cars, Canon cameras, Sony TV, etc. Actually, is there a list as such?

I live and do business in and across Europe. I don't like Ebay, and I have been stung $4000 by Paypal which I will never ever use again and don't recommend to anyone. Google checkout otoh works like charm and costs a fraction. Next thing however is to get a direct credit card processing account. I like money to be mine when I receive it, you see. I have been stung by a professional American con man who abused the Paypal system. Paypal first turned him down, by saying I was completely in the right, then refunded the money to Visa after a claim from them. No further explanation given, not even why I was right first and wrong later. Skype has also been bought by Ebay. I need to use for business unfortunately, but right now it sits doing nothing in the background using 56mb of real memory and 1GB of virtual memory. I don't know what virtual memory is. I have 4GB ram on my mac so it does not matter but the thing is the application does not do much more then when I run it years ago with much less memory. Ebay has managed to seriously screw up some very nice stuff.

It is extremely useful for a lot work situations. When out with clients I can check my realtime stock by logging on to the intranet using 3G on my Nokia E61. I do need to do a fair bit of scrolling but it beats carrying a laptop for that purpose. I did take a subscription with unlimited datatraffic however - 20 pm in Italy. It is also a great backup if ADSL fails in the office (as it does here) - faster then a modem (which I don't have) and faster to setup over bluetooth.

Just to say that just because you don't have a use for it it does not mean a technology isn't very useful for others.

  15. Re:Just do your own research. on Best Technology For Long-Distance Travel? · · Score: 1

I use a Nokia E61i and I am happy with it. I don't want push mail when travelling as roaming data is rather expensive on a European contract but the E61i has Wi-Fi so you can use that to check mail when you need it. The music player is very good, it seems better then my iPod Touch. I have a 1gb card in it - guess today you'd get a much bigger on. It synchronises contacts, appointments, pictures and music with my MacBook seamlessly through bluetooth or usb (which also charges the phone). The pictures are decent enough with good light. I have a dedicated gps device with the whole of europe that also comes with when I travel. I will look into buying Tomtom for my nokia provided it can take the whole of europe on one card so I can carry one less item. VOIP: the Nokia E61i has an excellent VOIP client than can cut your costs tremendously in combination with a Wi-Fi connection. Skype is possible through Fring. Both SIP and Skype do really work well, also over 3G. Web: the built in browser, based on KHTML works fine for simple tasks. I use it lot to log in to my company's CRM and pull up client and product details. For real work, say more then 3 days I will take my MacBook with me. It is unbeatable for portability/comfort and great wifi support. Well maybe a MacBook Air, but it is not really a workstation. The MacBook is a great workstation and a great portable. Summary: Get a Nokia E61i with a bluetooth GPS or another phone with VOIP,WIFI, MP3 and GPS and camera. Bring a laptop for longer trips if you need to do real work. Don Stenk.

Good point. The ethics guiding the Wikipedia editors and moderators are most likely influenced by the culture in which they live.

Some would argue that there is no objective set of moral guidelines, others would say the 10 commandments are universal rules (they were certainly revolutionary at their time). Fact of the matter is this: a group of people decide to create an online encyclopaedia, they have an obligation to do their best to describe the world objectively as it is. Illustrations are useful to that end, particularly illustrations originated in the culture, country of the religion described.

You don't exactly want to have to get into the "keeping windows updated" thing, too much of a waste of time, particularly if you already are getting Apple's updates. Windows can be kept secure and stable - but can you be bothered when using it as a secondary OS?
