I was at a confernce in orlando last week, and there was a parallel conference which seemed to be mostly military simulation stuff, they seemed to be pretty strong there. Guess they moved to the more lucrative stuff.

The users are always blamed for microsoft's bad software, why cant they just ship a good product (hard) instead of blaming the users for not patching (easy)?

You should try to do some netowrk programming, say for example real time analysis of netowrk packets, see if java can handle a gigabit network...I didnt think so.
Java has gotten a lot better, and the learning curve is shorter, I think generating machine code from byte code would make it as fast as c/cpp , something like what gcc/java is doing.
I read somewhere that the shuttle spacecraft, has 6 computers for redundancy checks.
Your Average plane have a triple backup system, I spoke to some engineer and he said preflight checks are usally just making sure two of the systems are still working
you'd think they could at least send up some more hardware with these little critters. The extra weight would pan out, when things go bad...case in point see what they are dealing with now:)
This is exactly what happens with your typicall baby monitor. People dont realize they are broadcasting their life to all their neighbors. In fact thats what happened to me, i bought a monitor, but its useless, since all the channels are being used by my neighbors.
At least I have something to do if I'm ever bored. Its like a baby crying radio channel:)
I dont agree, just forcing everyone to jump through the hoops is a surefire way to lose customers, think if aol forced you to use windows...you think linux will die?
but how many artists really have the savy to understand they are being cheated by the big corporations?

I think they mistakenly beleve (they being the artists) that if they giv eup profits, riaa will do all the work for them:)
