Oh my. I had no idea these guys were part of that group. I used to work for KeyLabs which was bought out by Exodus Communications (then they both went bankrupt and Keylabs spun off). I've done consulting work for Altiris (nice people) and HomePipeline.com (after 9 months of no payments I had to threaten to sue them to get paid. Can you believe that crap).

Overall my experience with Canopy has been a good one and Ray Norda really is a nice guy. I've spoken with him during company parties/functions and found him quite personable. That was about 3 years ago. I hope he hasn't changed into this. Would be a shame. He really was a nice guy and fair businessman.

Hell.. he was the guy who started Novell way back when it meant something. Seems when he lets go control or sells his interest in a company that it goes to hell. I've seen it happen over and over.

To date I've worked only on a couple of SCO servers. Now I understand why their product is soo bad. Look at the company employees and what they are doing. It explains it all.

Agreed however remember that the argument here is against Lindows. While Apple did not create the GUI (Everybody knows it was Xerox right?), Microsoft can't use similar arguments stating that "Windows" is a trademarked name. America is the ONLY country to grant Microsoft the Trademark. Period. No other country would allow Microsoft the Trademark for the very reason Lindows is arguing the point. It's a generic name predating Apple and Microsoft.

Personally I hope Microsoft and Lindows legally lock horns. After it settles down I'm pretty sure that Microsoft Windows tm crap will disappear (though the product will unfortunately stick around for a few more years).

I'd have to agree. For over a decade I haven't purchased a single CD. Nor have I downloaded them via the internet. Now that I'm using Kazaa and other P2P's to download music, I find myself listening to some albums/singles that I really enjoy. Now after a decade of never purchasing a CD I've purchased over a dozen or so in the last year. Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Goo Goo Dolls, Enigma and so on (yeah... " Why would I trust "free" software from a vendor while at the same time pay them to support that software?"

This argument can be applied to our Government. Would you trust a closed Government to handle your needs for you? Isn't that what Communism was all about? At least in part I should say.

"Seems to me that they WANT the software to be low quality or hard to use so they can charge me more to support it."

Are you saying software like Microsoft's IIS was high quality software? That's scrapping the bottom of the barrel according to the Garner report (SP?) They even told people to abandon IIS and find another web server. Never thought that would have come from their lips.

"Plus, now I have to hire a 150,000 a year linux geek. No thanks."

But of course. You want to hire 10 MCSE's to manage a network that one *NIX geek can handle in his/her sleep.

And yes I'm pissed at this. The reason for the post. Since when have we been able to rely on the courts for justice unless we have a few billion to throw at them.

Oh and regarding the file swapping, sure I've downloaded plenty of songs from kazaa but guess what... I own the cd media which has that song. I believe the free use laws apply in that case. I'm not selling the damn thing. I'm making another cd most likely because the original was damaged in some way (most recently my "Unforgettable" cd was damaged). Kids.. .go figure :D

Macrovision for those who don't know is an older VHS copy protection scheme that screws up your video when you make dups of your tapes. How the heck did they get it on a DVD???

BTW, my DVD player is a JVC I purchased 2 years ago. Pretty new still. I'm calling the vender for another copy. Hopefully the Macrovision didn't screw me over. I'm NOT purchasing another DVD player because they are paranoid. I'll simply burn a DVD without the Macrovision if I'm forced to.
