There's no way that an home user can afford five nines internet access, so even if it isn't the authentication server end that's a problem, well, you're screwed anyway.
Do you really need to play "Assassins Creed 2" continuously with only 5 minutes of downtime every year? If so, I suspect that your Internet connection is the least of your issues.
Even three nines (eight hours of downtime per year) is more than reasonable for a normal home connection. That might even be good enough for a DRM server.
I'm at about four nines from Verizon FiOS (about 5 hours of downtime in the 3 years I've had the service).
If I'm reading this correctly then you are missing the point. a product was purchased and they can't use it because of DRM restrictions (the server is down ). I'm not purchasing it for the DRM reason alone. Any games that have this kind of crap don't get my dollars. And I encourage other's to do the same.
There are other games out there which manufacturers WANT to sell and will make it in a manner people can enjoy.
At this point, I'm far more interested in Vavle's Mac development that they seem to be doing. I'd love to know if I can finally ditch my Windows partition. I'd love to see Steam and the Source Engine on OS X.
Given their solid Direct3D stance, I'm a little worried... but a gamer can dream, right?
Still, Portal 2. Going to have to play that.
If they port it to Mac then I'd be willing to buy a Mac just for that. Then I can stop using crossover games for my steam gaming needs.
Better if it works under linux IMO but can't be choosy I guess
Why? Because Mac and Linux are not Windows and therefore need special training for the cleaning crew.
What are they cleaning?
Child porn. Why would you use Mac or Linux unless you had something to hide?
Not something to hide (not that it's anyone's business either) but Windows is a black box compared to Linux. and I really don't like working on black boxes.
Besides, Linux is a better experience for me and my family. it's been a VERY long time since we have any problems with the computer. windows we had to keep reloading it every year to keep the system speed up.
Bah, why am I explaining this. You know it already anyway;-)
At the end the Zombie comes back, because you can't kill something that is already dead!
Oh and the zombie you thought was the last one, usually is not the last one. History repeats itself, folks.
Not sure about that. You see I bought Left 4 Dead 2 and my combat shotgun works quite well against Zombies. So I think you can at least prevent it from moving after a couple blasts. The cool part is when the witch or a tank shows up. But then I'm getting ahead of myself;-)
That's right, they're out to get you. Any law professor will tell you that they are allowed to lie to you at any time, and do a couple of other things to you, just to catch you for something, preferably for the crime they're investigating. They have no incentive whatsoever to make sure they get the right guy, their only job is to get someone convicted.
and it's not even against the law unless it turns into perjury in the court.
YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF STATUTE 105B OF THE GEEK CODE.
YOU ARE HEREBY DIRECTED TO VIEW 'REAL GENIUS' WITHIN 30 DAYS OR YOU MUST FORFEIT YOUR GEEK CARD AT THE NEAREST FRY'S ELECTRONICS, COMPUSA, OR RADIO SHACK.
Did he use the words "Radio Shack" and "Geek" in the same sentence?
Some people may worry that a laser this powerful could be used to build some sort of spaced-based precision bomber. But don't worry, you'd have to get someone to build you optics for a phase conjugate target tracking system to do something like that. And no one is stupid enough to do that without realizing the implications.
Hmmm... so to distill your point - a sick Taco Bell employee who washes his hands and by doing so, doesn't cause E. Coli contamination resulting in millions of dollars of losses for his parent company should be paid like a CEO?
And if another sick Taco Bell employee doesn't was his hands and does cost the company millions of dollars, he should also be paid like a CEO?
Wait a second here. They don't wash their hands at Taco Bell?;-)
Hey, they can look at my data. It will bore them to death.
They'll find my four trillion digits of pi boring until they realize that every trillionth digit is the start of a datetime stamp followed by geographic coordinates indicating when and where I'm going to kill next. How many people have to die before they realize that it's GMT with no adjustments for daylight savings!?
- Pi Killer
dunno how many must die. But when they start to figure out they are all politicians they will start to wonder;-)
What’s interesting is even though it’s low level, I keep hearing about skin cancer concerns. This is low level radiation which causes cancer over time.
Then there are the concerns over being fully exposed to another without chocolates and flowers I'll pass.
Stupid. As people will just change protocol, so.. what will you do? repeat your strategy? then enter on a tecnological battle where you ban thinks that "look" like suspicious "bad" traffic. How much time will this war need to result on a almost totally broken internet where all applications that need reliable latency fail for not apparent reason?
Do not start trowing rocks, if you live in a cristal house, concast.
I'm horrified that someone would even suggest that Microsoft would try to inflate their numbers to get press releases and try to convince people that Microsoft products are better than anyone else's in the world. But what I do I know about Microsoft. I use their competition as often as possible:-)
I asked that question 3 years ago. We upgraded to a business plan and we were told it's just more. this of course was before they announced in 2008 it's 250 Gigs for residential plans. So I'm curious if they have a stated cap today
Hell yeah. I'm considering going back if they provide the meter. I'm already reporting using cacti on my firewall so I know what my usage is. We're under 70 Gigs a month at most. 30-40 Gigs normally. It's going to be a hard sell going back to Concast though. My family doesn't like the company and my kids really hate them.
Should be interesting to see what their reaction is AFTER the meter is implemented. I'm curious if they would consider going back but as I said, we'll see.
It's interesting. In 2007 when they terminated my family's internet we started talking with other's in our neighborhood. Several other's down the block also had similar experiences with Concast. It's interesting how in the last two years concast has been changing from not telling you what you purchase to providing a bandwidth meter. Even improving their abysmal customer service from #1 worst in the business to almost #1:-)
Maybe someday we'll consider going back. After 3 years now with their competitor it's going to be tough to justify to the family going back again. Not only have they lost business in my neighborhood but future business as well (I have 6 kids pissed at Concast now).
I do vote. And unless the guy is REALLY well known to me I don't vote Democrat or Republican anymore. I look for the third party candidates and research and vote for them instead.
We got into this mess by voting Democrat or Republican. It's time for real change. Not a TV spot telling us about change.
This entire planet is mad, you know.
Well yes but mostly harmless.
They just haven't caught us yet ;-)
Sounds like many experiences I've had with Concast.

Thank you Valve; a nice follow up to the game of the decade.
If it works under linux (or even crossover games) then I'm so there.. Otherwise I guess I'll wait for Portal 3 ;-)
My Windows box is silver, you insensitive clod!
Silver? Are you sure about that? ;-)
They get double the tax.
Why? Because Mac and Linux are not Windows and therefore need special training for the cleaning crew.

It's either that or people like me will simply figure Ubisoft's games aren't worth the hassle and buy somebody else's games.

sharks and lazers man. that's all you need.
You shouldn't be that upset, a key aspect of the book is that most people aren't paying attention.
I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention.
Errrr... What? ;-)
Hmmm... so to distill your point - a sick Taco Bell employee who washes his hands and by doing so, doesn't cause E. Coli contamination resulting in millions of dollars of losses for his parent company should be paid like a CEO?

But didn't you know that
War Is Peace
Freedom is slavery
Ignorance is Strength?
One of my favorite books btw. too bad people generally aren't paying attention :/

Concast doesn't care.
That explains it all :/
Two(?) words:
Windows 7
I'm horrified that someone would even suggest that Microsoft would try to inflate their numbers to get press releases and try to convince people that Microsoft products are better than anyone else's in the world. But what I do I know about Microsoft. I use their competition as often as possible :-)

Several network architects have turned down the position after having seen the network.

To the rabid anti-Microsoft crowd, any apology is "groveling", regardless of who was wrong.
Whoa... I'd hate to see what the rabid Microsoft crowd would call an apology...
