[ That's all the German I know, and you can thank the game Castle Wolfenstein for that one word:) ]
Problem is the cost is $100's USD more, and a lot of the networks use their own frequencies etc. Verizon is not even GSM, but something called CDMA I think. One provider called Sprint is "PCS" and a few others are GSM but don't all use the same frequesncies. The market here is a mess, much like the rest of this country, where in Yurope:) you all have good GSM everywhere.
The 7 inch screen has DVD Nav and telephone functions, and the telephone uses bluetooth.
So, all I do is get in the car, phone in pocket with no need to do anything else... and all calls can now be answered with the car's tough screen, and played over the cars speakerphone and use the VERY high quality noise cancelling mic. When a call comes in, both the music playing and GPS NAV announcments gently fade away to let me hear the ring. If I talk, it loweres the radio to a whisper and the NAV uses larger, non-sounding turn indicators. When the call ends the Radio and NAV sounds gently go back to the previous volume setting. When I leave the car, I need to do nothing and the calls go back to my phone as normal. All automatic.
While I really like sthe car, I was still undecided util I saw this in the store demoed to me, and I then sat down to sign papers within 5 minutes and bought the car. Completely awesome. Since I am self employed and live and die by my phone to sell my own tech services, using 3000 minutes a month and over 30 phone calls a day just for biz, this bluetooth phone thing made me drool.
Didn't mean to call you an idiot, sorry, yesterday was a bitch of a day for me and I was trolling all my posts:(
You're right, but the problem is that the software is so awesome, so usable, that porting it to Windowz is giving away the family jewels of the House of Apple. I wish too that iApps etc could be of Windoze but it will never happen IMO (the only Windoze box in my life is a Tablet PC that I love... god if Apple made a tablet I'd give a kidney for it) iTunes was a shock and a pleasant app for get for Windoze, but I would bet $ that that is the end of the porting of Mac apps.
iTunes 4.7 can organize photos and have real sync with autoupdate, so that should be more than enough for Windoze users. The only way to get everything else is to get OSX.
How is Cingular regarding bluetooth? AT&T? Do they pull a Sprint-Bitch(TM) or Verizon-Bitch(TM) and purposely cripple bluetooth? As a GSM network, I'm hoping they leave their phones' bluetooth virgin and pure so I can sync, use in new bluetooth enabled car, etc.
The merger could mean I will, in New York City, be saturated with reception goodness. Each company on it's own was "ok to good" but overlap the two and Verizon IMO is shaking like the bluetooth criplin' bitch it is.
I just posted about what's missing in the 650, but come early next year (I'll wait for hardware revision B... always do) I will pick one up regardless of the extreme pricing. But I will be leaving sprint for one reason: the crippled bluetooth, and choosing FIRST on a privider who does NOT cripple bluetooth. I'm guessing that means no Sprint and no Verizon here in NY.
Any experiecnes with bluetooth with prividers that was good or bad anyone?
P.S. Offtopic: that ashlee simpson SNL thing was too funny. What a dumb bitch.
I have to say I think for $550+ the Treo 650 is way overpriced. As a Palm fanboy, I feel sick with mistreatment. For that price, it is currently missing:
IMO... disgusting at that price. I have and love and setup TONS of Treo 600's, but seriosuly the price is nuts without the above. And to nitpick, IMO the Treo 650 should also have:
- not just bluetooth, but Class 1 (or is it class A) bluetooth with 100m range - all 128 mb as non-volotile - voice recorder to record the phone calls too - easy setup to use device as a laptop modem for windows/mac with open spec to let Linux dudes knock up their own sw - Camera Flash (even the lame ultra-bright led's actually can save the day with a photo in a very dark room, much better than nothing) - Software to have web access auto-switch from carrier service to 802.11 when 802.11 becomes availbe, and back again when wifi disappears. Latest Pocket PC devices to this automatically.
Oh, and to REALLY bitch, but to make this thing perfect, add:
I live in New York City, and that Spitzer guy is ALWYAS in the news taking down scams, fraud, etc, on a MAJOR scale. He must never sleep, because I always (without caring or looking specifically for it) see his name in the news papers crackin' down on something big that affects the little guy. He's the only local person in power I've ever respected in my life. And now this? Seriously a man who works for the people. There are a few in the system, and he's one.
The press they will get from all the media outlets reporting about this will be far greater than the few million people who will read the ad. Go Firefox!
Every NASA launch, even today, still costs (and this is the official, exact amount) a gafillion jabillion dollars, USD.
$20 million is dirt cheap. NASA would have spent $20 million on a research paper explaining why it would not be possible to do it. Oh, and I meant "today" in a general sence, since all NASA launches are still on hold.
Trust me, people at NASA are shitting their pants. Rightly so. NASA circa 60's & 70's have my upmost respect and admiration. After that, gone to shit.
HOORAY SCALED COMPOSITES! AWESOME JOB WELL DONE. *Sp@ce w0ot!*

Ohh yeah! And, uh, Mach and BSD kernel stuff for windows! And also, ummm, Finder! And Aqua!
Seriously, stop being an idiot. Want the sw and the reliability, do what it takes to get $999 and grab yourself an entry level iBook.
That's probrably the ONLY thing of yours getting screwed.

Disallow any software that doesn't run on my Powerbook. :)
Better yet, slip it into Patriot Act II, and put all of THAT into a Microsoft Longhorn EULA.
