As for cars, if by some bizzare chance, an American company could possibly produce a car of equal quality as a German car, I would consider it. But those days are gone and will not be back. The last GREAT American car produced was the Packard (My dad has a 1940 and a 1954 Packard) and those were the Mercedes of the day.
I am sad to say that sometimes I have to buy something that I do not want to buy because I need it and can't make one myself. I would if I could.
As for electronics, it chaps my ass to buy Chinese crap but there is no other option, it's ALL made over there now and it's ALL CRAP..
However, I do have a massive stockpile of older American made electronic equipment, more than you could possibly imagine. I run a computer recycling service. I don't recycle them back into raw materials, I refurbish them and give them new life, PC's get Linux installed on them and become print servers, samba servers, ftp and Apache servers, and even join the cluster when I feel like playing. I have HP laserjets running out my ass, more than I could ever use in a lifetime and they are US made. Yeah, some parts in them are foreign made, like most of the chips but the equipment itself is at least 95% assembled in the US.
Check my page. It by no means cover all the stuff I have, it barely scratches the surface but believe me, I'll never in my life time run out of electronics gear. And the best part? I didn't pay a cent for any of it. Not one cent. So even when I do have to use foreign made crap, at least I didn't have to give them my money for it..

They never paid me. And when I called them and demanded satisfaction, they began screwing me on my phone bills. My $29 a month phone bill suddenly exploded into $600 a month bills for bogus charges, bogus equipment, bogus repairs, bogus services and bogus installations. The more I complained the worse it got, when I refused to pay the bills they cut my phone off then charged me hundreds of dollars to reconnect it and HUGE deposits.
Fucking thieves SBC is.... I cut the wires at the pole and the house and rolled up the wire and kept it. I now use only a cell phone.
I will NEVER have a land line again. BTW, I had previously had an unlisted number for over 15 years.

Here's an idea. We could publicly shame those companies that dump jobs overseas when there is a glut of qualified workers domestically. We could start a movement. Say we get a petition with the names of every out-of-work American who can't find a job due to outsourcing, or who has lost a job to foreign outsourcing. We then create our own virtual Wall. We then make a banner that reads, "I lost my job so that executives can get paid more." or something to the effect. Since top-level executive pay has been increasing dramatically, we'd have a powerful statement. We could go one step further and make a list of companies that outsource and publicize that.

I'm hearing impared and modern movies are impossible for me to watch without CC. They set the voice levels too low for me to hear so I have to turn the volume all the way up to hear speech then just about that time they start blowing shit up, (like my speakers and my head) and lay in with the loud ass music. Words can not begin to describe how freaking annoying that is.
This is SOP for ALL modern movies, so, I just quit watching anything made after the early 70's.. My preference is movies from the 30's to the 60's. No CG and no loud ass music. The actors had to act and the plot had to be good or the movie simply failed. Now movies don't even need actors or plots, just blow some shit up and crank up the music and you have a box office block buster...
I hate working on them because they STINK so badly.
Every once in a while I go to work on a neighbors computer and they all smoke over there. When I get home I leave my clothes in the garage and take a shower right away. Even if they refrain from smoking while I am there I still walk away from there smelling like an ashtray.
I have one friend that smokes and when he comes over I could puke from the smell of him. And his computer is sickening, when you turn it on it is like lighting a cigarette in here.
I borrowed a ream of paper from my neighbor once, it had been sitting in his kitchen for a year or two with everyone smoking there. As I ran it through my laserjet it made the entire house stink. I was sick from it for a week.
Non smoker computers clean up with just compressed air. Smokers computers are caked up with nicotine and dust and it's damn hard to clean it out.

They have this vision that they are going to resell the crap at garage sales and flea markets and make a living. Truth is, they lose BIG every time they set up at a flea market. They spend ~$200 to set up a booth for the weekend and if they are really lucky they sell about $15 worth of the crap they collect.
At garage sales it just costs them the time to do it but they usually only bring in less than $50 for the trouble.
These people are chasing the brass ring but they never catch it. What a waste of time, effort and money..
I amstockpiling older hardware. I have enough stuff to build my own clusters, to do what ever I want. I'll never run out of old computers. I've implemented my battle plan to deal with future E.V.I.L.(tm) schemes to kontrol the people.
You can rest assured that this will leak like a screen door on a submarine. With most of the people in the gubmint being absolute morons, someone will "leave a door unlocked" somewhere and some punk script kiddie will hack it 6 ways to sunday.
