I'm using KDE 3.1.4tex on Mandrake 9.1 and I have all the goodies available that they are demonstrating, drop shadows, translucent menus (I don't like those) and everything else.
Is this some big retro-breakthrough, has the time machine slipped a cog or am I missing something completely??
I dumped my home phone when my son moved out to college. I hated the damn thing. His friends quit calling when he moved but the telemarketeers did not. So now I only have a cell phone and I do perfectly well with that.
I don't get unsolicited calls on the cell phone (yet) and I don't get textspam (yet) either. Matter of fact I am going to have text messaging disabled on my phone, they charge me $5 a month for it and I've only used it once to see how it works. They also charge me $5 a month for Internet capability and I don't need that either. Matter of fact I bet if I look over my bill closely I could find a bunch of stuff that I could trim out.
But as for having my home number go to my cell phone, I don't think so. That will just give the telemarketeers a hot line direct to me, 24/7 and I don't like that concept.
There is no way in hell that a computer can do what a man with a paint brush and water colors can do.
Watch the ORIGINAL "Fantasia" and pay attention to the detail of the artwork. Look at level of detail, the smoothness of it all.
CG is shit. They use CG because they are cheap bastards and don't want to pay the artists to paint the cells. The other problem is that REAL artists are hard to find these days. Everyone thinks that a mouse makes every yuk-yuk an instant Rembrandt (or in this case Walt Disney)
I tell you this, Walt is spinning in his grave right now. His daughter was a stupid bitch to sell it to Eisner. Now Miramax, a Disney holding, makes XXX PORNO movies.
Eat your own words. Win 95 No longer supported. Win 95b No longer supported. Win 95c No longer supported. Win 98 No longer supported. Win 98SE No longer supported. Win ME No longer supported. Win NT3.5 No longer supported. Win NT4 No longer supported. Win 2K On the way out. Win XP Why bother??
In *some* cases, like say if I go work on a PC at a small business (mom & pop sized) I can take a cd that has patches that I've downloaded.
But, I can't take EVERY possible patch for every possible installation around with me. It's not possible. So, the option for them is, either send the PC out with me so I can do it at my place over cable or take 6 months doing it over a modem.
Neither option is very exciting to them, they can't afford to be without the PC but they can't afford to not patch it up...
And by the way, "Patch" is what you do to something that is broken. Look it up in the dictionary. Not my choice of terminology, that's M$'s choice..
"Among the recent steps Microsoft has taken to improve security is its announcement that it will have a free update to its flagship Windows XP desktop operating system next year. The improvements are to include disabling certain features that can allow hacker break-ins. The upgrade, or service pack, will also include an improved firewall."
They strain this one out like a concrete turd. It's obvious that they want to make everyone aware that the FIX for the FAULTY OS is FREE, this time, versus the alterative plan, which is to CHARGE YOU for the FIX for the FAULTY OS.
Does M$ really charge you for service packs and security upgrades? I mean, damn, what absolute GALL!
I checked the price of XP (which I do NOT own or use) today at Frys and it's going for $199 for the UPGRADE. That means you had to have previously spent a large chunk of cash on 95-2K in times past. You figure those prices in and you come up with $350 to $400 for a fully legal copy of XP.
And straight out of the box it's broken. Then they expect you to buy updates, patches, and other repairs to it for more money??
You really have to be absolutely dying to throw cash out the window to go with this insane plan.
I've yet to see a distro of Linux that requires you to PAY for updates, patches, etc. Unless you count in perhaps the very large, high end, mega-server packages and that's doubtfull..
I would much prefer see it go to IBM, at least IBM will most likely keep it alive and probably thriving. If IBM played it right they could inflict serious hurt on M$.
Just think if you had taken real photos on real film with a $50 camera you could be showing those pictures to your grandkids someday......
Yeah, I know.........
I'm really begining to hate high-tech.. One little glitch and history is erased forever. Now the only place those images exist is in the memory of the people that once viewed them.
CD's are too small. And the limited lifespan thing is a very large negative.
DVD's are going to prove out to meet the same fate. We need something that we can store data on that will last 100 years.
Some people will say, "Bah, in 100 years there will be no machines that can read the discs." Wanna bet? (you're likely to find plenty in my house/garage)
Maybe you could put your really important CD's in a nitrogen enviroment. But that's not going to work for the majority.
It's time to develop a truely permanent medium. Books are disentegrating at an alarming rate, CD's are rotting away, video tape goes bad, magnetic storage demagnetizes, photo's crumble, hard drives crash (I just lost my son's graduation and prom photos when my hard drive overheated and went crazy. I can not replace those photos now, they are gone forever.)
What ever happened to holographic storage in crystals?? Perhaps that's what we should go full tilt towards and dump this old and failure prone tech. out with the bath water...
This is just a ruse (shhhhh...) by IBM to bankrupt SCO. If SCO pays IBM to not use Linux by the gazillion truckloads, SCO goes bankrupt and Darl, being deprived of his crack allowance checks into the detox unit. End of lawsuit, end of lunatic newsbriefs..
Go fuck yourself. What are you, stalking me? You seem to have an overabundance of interest in my posts. Seems this is not the first time you've pissed and moaned about something that I posted.
Uh uh.. Bad move. I would prefer that Suse stay a German owned and based business. Keep it out of the meddling hands of American profiteers and legal entanglements..
Fact. CD's are way overpriced. Fact. 14 out of 16 songs on any CD SUCK. Fact. People feel ripped off paying for 14 songs that suck. Fact. When people buy only the individual songs they like they will for the musicians to produce less CRAP.. If the musicians want to make more money, make better music.
I wouldn't buy a box of cupcakes if I knew that two of them were regular cupcakes and 14 of them were turds. Why should I pay for 14 turds that I don't want and won't eat just to get the two cupcakes??
He moved on to another job and is no longer making rpms for Mandrake. *extreme weeping*
However the grapevine has it that he's working on a live-on-cd version of Mandrake 9.2 (in the spirit of Knoppix and all tweaked up with all the hot goodies. It's supposed to rock on from what I've heard, will include install to HD scripts too..

That Bill has hired Darl as FUDmeister.
Now we know where that 50mil came from.
And we have already determined that Darl spent it all on crack..

Um, excuse me but Redhat 7.x is seriously *old* and no longer supported. Current Redhat release is 9.x and that's being dumped shortly.
Get with the program before you bump your gums..
And over a dialup modem..

that Lucent, AT&T or HP acquire Suse.

People write viruses because they are assholes.
I don't need a Phd to figure that one out.

One bit flipped and it's all over with..
shit, brain fart. I meant should NOT be modded that low..
That should be modded that low.
That's cool info..
The second one reminds me of PDP core memory.
I had one, many years ago but someone stole it.

Awwwww....
How in God's name can so few smoke so much in so little time??
Damn, and I thought the people on the west side were bad!
the digital crap they added in many years later.
I saw the revised editions and I was not at all impressed or pleased with them.
Leave things alone. I want the original, unedited, as released to the theatre in 1977.
I do *NOT* like digital effects. They look crappy and they detract from the original work and concept.
LEAVE IT ALONE!
If it's without the added scenes, I'll buy it.
If the digital scenes are added in, I will *NOT* buy it..
Your childish tricks will not work around here.
And please return the check to Bill, you failed.
How can I WTM (watch the movie) if ya don't post a .torrent??
Theatre? What's that??
post a .torrent for it.
Go fuck yourself. What are you, stalking me?
You seem to have an overabundance of interest in my posts. Seems this is not the first time you've pissed and moaned about something that I posted.
I think this is approaching Internet Stalking..
sure gets around a lot these days!
Seems everyone is taking a few extra tokes on it lately...
Look what they did with Unix(R) !!
