Back when the first P-II systems came out I was working at Fry's in the service dept. I was building a system for a customer. ATX was still pretty new and I was unaware of the intricacies of the power button. I thought I powered it off, but merely put it to sleep. I pulled the sound card and powered it back on well it went back to the dos prompt where it was and still worked without locking up!
The second thing was when I was working at a small computer store and I was bored. I was talking to another guy that was teting a computer and he had the cover off. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a quarter. I aimed just right (so I thought) to land it right in the middle of a 430TX chip. I missed by a few mm and the quarter hit the leads on the chip, made a spark and shut down the computer. The guy was furious. I simply reached down and hit the power button and it came right back up. Amazing.
I've used Avocent Outlook KVMs with multiple systems (2000, Linux, 98 and XP on the same kvm). (Sometimes called Apex Outlook) This one: 16 Port They even have a button you can press to resync the keyboard and mouse if they stop responding but that has never happened to me. It is a really nice KVM, if a bit pricey..
And expiring ink! I had to replace a DJ2000 printer in the CEO's office of the company I used to work for. When I powered it up , it said the ink had expired! We purposely had this printer set aside as a hot spare for him so it was kind of self defeating.
I read that 1/3 of Iraq is Christian. It is not a Islamic Republic like S.A. or Iran. I also believe that Saddam is a brutal person who does not put civilians life much higher than we'd put a cock-roach. The reason why we did not "finish the job" back in the early 90's is because we were so easily blowing through their military that Bush Sr. and his advisors were worried that we were killing soldiers needlessly. So when we negotiated the cease fire, we mistakenly allowed Saddam to bring armed helicopters into the South, which he used to exterminate the civilians that were rising up against him.
12? I got a 50 on a p3-800eb with radeon 7000 card running 98SE (cousin's computer). I've yet to try it on my Inspiron 4100. But I got 1853 on the old 3d mark (mobility radeon m6 1ghz)
I thought the same exact way when I read the article. I get irritated when I tell someone to google for something and they use MSN or Yahoo. Usually when I say to google for something it means they will find exactly what they wanted within the first 3 or so links. My fav. is "How do I install linux on a laptop" Go to www.google.com and type linux laptop. Click the first link.
Well my point was... Back in the 90's I remember hearing about Cray saying that they had just made history by finding like the 10 billionth number in pi or something like that. So I figured that if you had root access to the worlds fastest super computer, other then converting your entire music collection to ogg and Divx converting your DVDs what else would you do? Pi!
Second of all, the oil/water thing is more of an Italian dressing, I believe; and First of all, we don't call it french dressing any more, we call it Freedom Dressing.
Michael Katzenberg has been arrested on suspicions of ties to Al Qaeda and the Islamic Jihad. That and Saddam Hussein's alien abduction and anal probe next.... On FOX news! We speculate... YOU decide!
Honestly does Microsoft really have to test an application before the sign it? I wouldn't mind this being part of their future court problems. Allow Linux for X-Box to be sold and allow the proceeds to be given to the FSF or EFF. Do any of you remember Sony's big to-do about the PS/2 is a computer not a game system so they could get around some tarrifs? How can microsoft say that it is not a computer?
Notice how everything computer related these days has the "Designed for Microsoft Windows" on it. What if one of those logos accidentally made its way on to the box?
It seems to mention old-world G3 systems as being kinda flaky. Since darwin is open, I wonder if anyone has tried to port it to other old-world pci machines? I personally would love to put it on my older PowerMac 6360 (which doesn't work with XPostFacto)and use fink and other things on it. Sure linux works on it, but it would at least be nice to have this.
and if they are the least bit suspicious of your purpose here. I don't care if they let John Ashcroft personally ride next to you with his un-gloved hand rammed in your rear!

9 times out of 10 the Windows update driver just screws things up.
The first thing I thought of was Deep Space Nine. And I thought... My God, that thing has traveled far!

How about a "special" mod chip that only allows the xbox to run FSF signed software?
Microsoft Linux.NET X-Box edition.

No shit. I've been wanting to pick up a used blue and white tower for a few years now and they still cost as much as an a new Emac.
