Damn, my points are all used up and I wish I could add a +1 funny to that.
But don't forget in order to REALLY make it like windows, make it run as a background process, do a sleep 60 at the end and make it start all over again.
They could tell these folks, "Hmm I think you may be right about closed source software" and then order a bunch of servers from Sun running Trusted Solaris;)
The general manager of the division of the company that I work for used to work at Mitre. He has multiple masters degrees, and a doctorate. Not only that, he's a pretty cool guy. I'm sure this is OT, but I just wanted to give you some background on Mitre.
Since the javascript runs on the -client- side, and the logs are on the -server- side, how exactly would the javascript get that information?
Easy, first the server would have that you requested a.js file, that will be in the apache log. As for the timer inside the js file, it could wait for 5 seconds to make sure you read it, then execute an http GET for a 0 byte file on the server of a certain name. Then the server would know that you got the popup watched it for 5 seconds without closing it and then let you in. That is how I would do it.
You all are making this too complicated. The easiest way to test if you received the ad is to do a quick compare if your IP did a request for example index.html and also popup.js and that would confirm you got it. Then secondly insert a small timer in the popup.js to make sure that it didn't get closed within X number of seconds. If you were running a popup stopper that closed popup ads within 1 second of being displayed or if you have javascript (in this example) turned off then either of them would pehaps trigger their anti-theft software.
I mean.. I haven't heard much from Enix recently and then this... I still thought that Square had some money to kick around. I guess not. Maybe Square can start focusing on what people want again. FF7 and FF9 were excellent games. 8 and 10 were kinda ho-hum.
There was an episode of the old Geraldo show that had 2 teens that were both arrested for "Sex with a minor" for getting caught having sex with each other. They were both under the age of legal concent in their state. So up until 18, when they can petition to have their records sealed they will have this on their record.
Microsoft: expensive, slow development for fixes, laughed-at-by-main-stream-media security, closed source - which further stifles development, foreign, you support a monopoly
Linux: cheap or free, rapid and constant development and bug fixes, industry reknowned security, open source, it is "yours" once you embrace it, you support a grass roots movement of heart felt computer users and developers
As you mentioned supporting a foreign owned monopoly. Linux is a multi-national "product".. Therefore they support "the world".
Yeah I think there is a Ramdisk used, I guess I should have clarified more, the interviewer wanted to boot into KDE pop the CD and put in a DVD and start up Xine.
For the sake of clarity to all... Sparc64 and UltraSparc are 2 different but instruction compatable cpu series. Sparc64 is a Fujitsu product and UltraSparc is a Sun product. They are both SPARC V9 instruction set compliant but have some different innards that make them not the same thing. (Athlon XP vs Pentium 4 basically) The Sparc64 runs at lower clock rates than the UltraSparc series CPU but can achieve similar performance by using more advanced branch prediction and out of order execution techniques. Just mentioning this because many people use Sparc64 and UltraSparc interchangably but keep in mind that just because something is in the "Sparc64" FreeBSD port doesn't necessarily mean it will run on a real Fujitsu Sparc64 system which may have different hardware entirely than Sun.;)
I use it on Dells a lot, however on systems that don't have boot roms. An Etherboot server would be nice;)
Basically I use knoppix for getting random computers on the network. Formatting the hard drive and unpacking my prebuilt.tgz with everything already in it. Reboot, pop the cd and I've got a fully functional file server ready for production use in about 1 hour. Norton Ghost? We don't need no steenkin Norton Ghost!!
I watched a review of House of the Dead 2 on CNN HLN and they had it running on the plasma screen so you could see the graphics and then flipped over to a smaller CRT to show the light gun. They specifically mentioned that the light guns don't work on plasma screens, because of the lack of the blanking period.
As a frequenter of the Dell Customer Forums with over 8000 posts, I see your point, but the fact remains you bought Dell's cheapest laptop designed around the extreme penny pincher that needs a mobile computer and you trash it. You spent "good money" but you could have spent better money and applied it toward a real laptop with real laptop parts in it. If anyone here is at fault it is either you or Intel but not Dell.
Apparently the humor was lost by some humorless person.
"UNIT" was an acronym for "United Nations Intellegence Taskforce" in the TV show "Doctor Who". The head of "UNIT" was Brigadier General Stuart.
Off topic indeed!
Remember children +1 Funny is only worth it if you don't have to explain.
The company I work for uses Quantum3D AAlchemy systems in their simulators, they use 4, 8, or 16 3DFX VSA-100 GPUs with up to a gig of ram per video card. We seem to have no problem getting these systems from Quantum3D

The fact that he complained that you couldn't eject a mounted CD with your root FS on it just kills me.

Anyone for VoIPX? (just kidding of course)
Why did you pick the screenshot of the "unfixed" fonts? This is the link for the "fixed" fonts here .
So there may be some kerning issues but that wasn't what this article was about.

Will I get to meet Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge Stuart? How about The Doctor? If so... I'm there!
Oh wait... No it's not. Damn those Amigas are cool... They can survive a slashdotting!
Yes, but really it was partially ON topic but there is no "+0 On topic, but not Funny"
