Now I'll have 1/2 a dozen little coffee cups sitting in my tray that won't go away any time I load a java applet. Anyone know how to make them annoying little buggers go away?
I've got an Indy with a 36GB drive that didn't cost me nothing. It was a going to the trash drive from a server that managed to be repaired with a good low-leveling. Sure the drive is hot as hell in that little Indy case, but not many people I know have a 36gb 10k rpm drive:)
Wow, Linux is being used in a product that Windows isn't even targeted towards. I don't think that Microsoft cares too much if linux is used in these types of devices.
When moving an array to another system that doesn't recognize it, I usually just "add array" and enter the parameters of the config. Then reboot and all of the data is intact.

Building Consoles For Fun

It is more difficult than you think, primarily because the XBOX uses a unified memory architecture (CPU and video memory share the same memory), which is quite different than the set up on PCs.
Yeah and so does every console. I once heard someone say the N64 was "practically unemulatable" because of the high bandwidth of the cpu to gpu and the RAMBUS memory. Well... Been there done that...
Since the system is MS's own design, I'm sure it is using standard DirectX calls. So you just have to intercept and re-route. The memory bottleneck won't be as bad as you think.
I'm sure you'll see "XBOX Emulators" for PCs, but don't expect one to actually run games well for about 2 years.
Now that does sound about right. Judging from most consoles, it takes about 3 years before a really good one comes out.
I was looking at a new tv a few years ago (Sony 32inch XBR) to replace my 20 year old Zenith that was still going strong. The salesman said I should get a in-store warranty "because they don't make 'em like they used to!" This goes along with the 25 year old fridge in the garage that still works, dryer that only just recently the belt started slipping, 15 year old VCR that I had (power surge killed it) And a 2 year old GE washer that started leaking like a sieve! Oh and don't get me started on hard drives!
You could easily place a PPV order for a fight, sports game or movie to be viewed whenever you wanted it, and have the PVR download it. If they are really being snooty about it, but a time limit on it. Such as an in-demand movie. Just send it to the pvr and give you x number of days to view it. Makes money for the companies.
but OpenBSD will not make use of it, because they respect the intent of the GPL.
Miller believes that it's "obvious" how the UltraSparc III works after looking at the UltraSparc III version of Linux. But the OpenBSD programmers have tried that strategy to no avail, de Raadt said.
Out of standard, considering each one of these storage units integrates two hard disks and a bridge FW/RAID, it is possible to configure them in RAID 1 (Mirroring) or RAID 0 (Striping).
Most likely this is making 2 identical sized partitions and using your operating system's software raid 1 support.
I have been looking for that exact thing for a few years now. THANK YOU!
I did find some but it was only available to large OEMS. Apparently one of their customers was SGI, who used the adaptors to make large storage clusters. I'm glad to see it is afforable too. Condsidering you could now get multiple 200GB IDE drives + one of these for each drive in your container for cheaper than the equivalend SCSI drives.
I was under the assumption that after the Macs went "new world" the rom file was part of the OS. There is a MacOS Rom file in the system folder of classic systems. Sure there is an OpenBoot "ROM" but I don't think it by itself supports classic mac OS without the file.
At least us "gotta-have-it" people will have more wireless things at our finger tips with more objects orbiting the earth that can deliver some sort of content. More money changing hands means the economy will go up. I don't know by how much but... couldn't hurt (that bad) hehe
For those who weren't aware. Since the breakup of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation has to lease their space center from Kazakhstan which wouldn't be much different than if canada wanted to start a space program and use houston+florida. Except I don't think the Kazaks put any funding into this, they just reap some monetary rewards by having the space center on their soil.

Just getting the latest gcc for 64bit amd and doing a make world isn't going to do that much for you. Real speedups come in non portable code, which around here...seems to be taboo.
Yes I do have some experience reviewing weblogs but little details like that tend to get overlooked when reading through 5000 Code Red and other virii.
Offtopic? I thought this was about Lewis and Clark right? Maybe I'm the only moderator not on crack.

If the shredder had a 6809E processor in it, this command would double it's speed!

I also got a free PS/2 out of them when I signed up :)
Mouse, keyboard or this?

Not any more than I trust an "unbiased" view on Microsoft posted on /.

" Who could argue that a Vaio is a low end system?" Me- my 700Mhz PIII Vaio laptop won't play divx3 movies without mucho framedropping.
I had a 700Mhz Celeron Dell laptop and all forms of Divx played just fine. What kind of video chip did it have?

Video editing requires a much faster harddrive than the specs mention. Firewire is not up to snuff.
Oh? Then how did people video edit 4 years ago when no drives weren't as fast as firewire is today?
