Much like DNS blacklists for spam, etc. I'm sure someone or some company would start a public list that is updated regularly... Or where they work will give them the info to take home. Our help desk here has done that a few times - they send out a hosts file that blocks a lot of annoying ads, etc via the domain and login scripts, but after folks have said "I don't want the ads at home either" they've given copies and directions to take home.

In-state vs. out-of-state tuition is typically because State colleges/community colleges get some funding from taxes, etc. So if you aren't a resident, you've not been paying into that pool, etc. so you get charged more... until you've been a resident of that state for a year or so.

Now personally, I work at a CC, and I used to keep Seti@Home running all day - justification that if we charge out-of-state students as much as we do, what could we charge *intergalactic* students?

Travel with a gun. You go thru security quicker, and you are pre-inspected and are allowed to lock your luggage properly. And they can't label your stuff as having a gun. And you needed get a BIG gun... just the action off a old single shot shotgun will work, its enough to be a gun for the ATF. Just follow the fed regulation (locked case, etc) and the TSA regulations (same as fed) and teh airline regulation (tell your check in person you need to declare a firearm). Best part is if your luggage is "lost" you get to look at 'em and ask if you should call the ATF or if they will... gets your stuff found quick.

Because if you go to a real auction house, the auction doesn't end until the bidding ends... so as a seller, if your auction is sniped, then you aren't making as much money as you possibly could. With GB's 15 minute rule, the max value for the item is reached - or rather, an opportunity is given to all buyers to reach the max value.

Although I do agree - when I'm buying, I put in what I'm willing to pay and if I win, I win...

  19. Re:Alternatives... on eBay Battles Power Sellers · · Score: 1

True, but that is mostly due to the current customer base of the site. I think if GBH,Inc. wanted to they could get more "general auction" business going... There already are vehicles, domains, etc. for sale on GB... but because of its primary niche market, not a lot of potential - yet...

Alternatives exist. I like gunbroker.com (aka forthehunt.com if your workplace filters the word "gun" in a url).

No restrictions on listings, other than legal things (body parts, slavery), no listing fees unless the item is sold, the costs are fair, and NO SNIPING - true actions. If a bid happens in the last 15 minutes of listing time, it automatically extends to 15 minutes.

National Guard didn't exist until 100+ years after the BoR...

And in '34, with the National Firearms Act, they simply placed a massive tax of $200 on full auto stuff that you could buy in a hardware store, by mail, etc. for like $30... so they excessivly taxed it - you can still own it, but boy, its gonna cost you. The tax amount still hasn't changed, but in '68 the cut off was for importing NFA items, and in '86 it was creating new form-4 transferrable items (form 4 is the tax form us "normal" folks use for NFA item taxes) that were full auto. So in '85 you could buy a Colt AR15 (semi only) for $500, and a full auto one for like $550 plus the tax. Since no new items are allowed to be registered (even if you find it in your grandpa's barn buried under stuff from WW2), that same M16 will cost you $20k, plus the tax.... supply and demand. You can still create SBR (short barrel rifle - less than 16" barrel) or SBS (short barrel shotgun, 18"), AOW (any other weapons) such as a pistol with a foregrip, and Destructive Devices (40mm grenade rounds, a street sweeper shotgun which is really just a BIG revolver)
