I used to work at Worst Buy and we were also told to tell the customer things that were not exactly true, like there were additional issues, backordered parts and such. The solution is to GO TO YOUR LOCAL MOM & POP computer store. You will get higher quality equipment, better waranties, better customer service, and in most cases, you will qualify for the Microsoft Buy Local Bonus Packs and get free stuff! Don't patronize the big box stores. They don't care about individual customers, only the bottom line: their wallets, NOT the customers!
Agreed! However, this would never work because there are too many spineless wimps who would cave and go to work, then those of us who joined in would be terminated. I think someone referred to these guys earler as "scabs".
I have long thougth IT workers should form a Union, or perhaps merge with IBEW, but this would do nothing more than cause more outsourcing. I think outsourcing should be banned. How can we compete against someone with no labor laws who will work for $1/hr? What an outrage. My community has been devastated by outsourcing....and socialism just means everyone will fall to the same lowest common denominator.
The reason so many exploits have been discovered in Microsoft products is because it is the most widely used and people actively seek those exploits. The more users an application has, the more actively hackers will be searching for exploits. This is why I agree that statistics on use should be avoided....of course it could also be that those who search for exploits in Microsoft products do so for the sole purpose of causing harm to Microsoft as a company.
This will get me labeled as a troll and kill my karma, but it is non-existent anyway so I'll say it: Everyone knows it is quite possible that a default install of Linux has many more security issues than a default install of Windows XP SP2.
I have one of the cheapest Delphi Roady2 for XM Radio and it sounds most excellent. While it does have a built in FM tuner that occasionally receives static when going under bridges or pulling up at a stoplight next to someone else using an FM modulator, when using the LINE IN/OUT or even the cassette adapter, it is definatly CD quality. There is actually a connection quality chart that came with the radio that shows the quality to expect with each connection type, FM modulation being the lowest.
But anyway, what is good for business is definately NOT good for the music or the people, especially when it is coming from the mouth of a greedy RIAA exec.
Insttead of bitching about this on Slashhdot, how about calling your congressman/woman and voicing your discontent? Not that it will do any good, because I don't think you can afford the millions of $$ in lobbying for them to hear you.
"2026 - Internet Explorer buys WIndows, tries to charge Apple visual fees."
Sound familiar? The U.S. Govt. broke up AT&T, and now look. SBC has purchased it's old parent company, acquired it's name, and is now trying to extort Google, Yahoo, etc with bandwidth throttling.
This is pathetic. Like i said in my previous post, if you don't like it, make something better. If you can't make something better, then shut up. That's the problem with these companies. They're not being squeezed out, they just have not been "acquired" by Microsoft. instead, they have made their own competing product, and they suck, and they can't compete, so they grease some politicians and sue.
Microsoft provides enough information for rivals to make any app run under Windows. The problem is, they usually bundle it with some sort of spyware. Real, Netscape, AOL, you name it. They all want to spy on you. In addition, the EU now wants a backdoor in to all Vista systems. How unbelievably pathetic.
Agreed.
What good is an OS without a browser? How are you going to get another browser without a browser to begin with?
Microsoft has more money than many European Union Countries, and they all want some of it.
Microsoft makes Windows. They have every right to include whatever they want in the operating System. They have every right to maintain a tight grip on their proprietary API.
Microsoft makes outstanding products. Linux does not compare to Microsoft products. I have yet to find a single flavor that is as easy to use, stable and secure as any Microsoft product. I am referring to ALL THREE traits combined. It is a well known fact that any Linux Distro is easily as insecure or even more so than any Microsoft product.
Microsoft was forced to sell a stripped down version of their OS. They complied. Guess what? No ONE IS BUYING IT! Why? Because no one wants a stripped down OS. They want a full featured, all in one product that is affordable and simple to use. This is not about the people. This is about other companies and crooked politicians wanting more money for doing nothing.
Linux is a great product, but have you ever tried to call Linux tech support? If it even exists at all, it is VERY expensive. If I have a problem with my Linux boxes, I find it easier to backup what data I can and reload as opposed to troubleshooting it. I rarely have to call Microsoft, but when I do, they have solved my issues each and every time.
Where can I get Free Linux training? Whenever I google for it, I am lead to hundreds of sites that offer one page of text training. If you need to learn Microsoft products, you can get free, instructor led, on-demand training on nearly every product they make by visiting - http://www.microsoft.com/events/default.mspx or http://www.microsoft.com/learning
This is definately a MAJOR issue. I have been using linux for years, and still have issues remembering the commands. New users would quickly adopt Linux for the desktop if the naming conventions made sense and were simpler to work with even in GUI. It seems the only ones who disagree that linux app naming conventions are tedious at best, are those who have been using it (UNIX) since the 60's & 70's. I even know Red Hat Certified techs who carry a command reference with them.
I called Sony to inquire about how to remove this "rootkit". As I expected, I was transferred several times. After 40 min. of transfering, being on hold and explaining the situation, I did not get an answer.
Can someone post the removal instructions here on Slashdot, or point to a place that has them?
Thanks.
The 1541C was slightly faster and white.
OK, How many of us would have went to jail if there were laws against what we were doing? I was busted twice. All they did was take away my computer and send my mom a HUGE phone bill.
I started on a VIC-20 then C=64, C=128 then this IBM clone crap. What a step backward that was!
"It's cold out here!"
But seriopusly, if they can make a spacecraft go billions of miles for several decades, why do our cars run on such polluting, inefficient gasoline?
We need to start putting pressure on these oppressive oil cartels to release the patents on this fuel saving technology thhey have, and regardless of what snopes says, I believe it truely exists.
I have been a PC Tech for over 20 years and have been working with computers 10 years before that. In my experience, the reliability factor of hard drives is similar to that of antivirus: They have their good years and their bad years. Someone said Quantum was a good drive. I beg to differ. The Bigfoot drives are pure junk. Maxtor used to be slow and unreliable in the early '90's, and Western Digital was the greatest. Now? I think Maxtor is the best drive to date, with EDeagate running a close second and Hitachi 3rd.
I have been seeing Western Digitals fail at a rate of about 3 A DAY! I have not seen a Maxtor drive failed in the last 4 months. I have seen 2 Quantums in the last week as well.
I must say I have never come across a failed Hitachi and very few failed Seagates. Their problems were they were just too damned slow.
From a professional with hands on experience, currently Maxtor is the best. Tomorrow it may be Seagate.
I am blind in one eye. Those movies that require the glasses just look red to me. That really sucks, because my favorite color is blue. I can't parallel park, catch a ball or judge distance. Computer games, on the other hand are not a problem and look good on my setup.
If special glasses or equipment is required to view these movies, I'll sue Hollywood for discrimination against the handicapped!

no, not IN Linux, I mean with 1GB, it should be able to RUN Linux in a VM or something. Ah, OS communities next project - VRAM based OS!
