    Apple's only moral responsibility is to let their users do whatever they feel like, and they have failed.

    No. It isn't. Their moral responsibility is to maximize shareholder profits which they have succeeded in doing, beyond expectations. They have decided to not appeal to fringe geeks and nerds but to instead appeal to the affluent mass market in order to meet their moral responsibility. That moral mass market would prefer if "porn" was not readily available on their consumer electronic devices. _YOU_ may not like that but Apple's shareholders, to whom Apple answers, likes it quite a bit.

    They have a legal responsibility to maximize shareholder profits, not a moral one.

    So, you want people to trade in thier paranoia about terrorism for paranoia about privacy concerns.

    But statistically, I'd be more worried about being killed by a shark than about being personally effected by the NSA spying program. It isn't a threat to my daily life.

    It is the way cable television is sold. Given that I watch little television, I would prefer to pay only for the programs I watch. But, I'm not given that choice. I have to sign up for a monthly subscription for a ton of channels I never watch.

    Cancel cable, sign up for netflix.

    It was determined a long time ago that requiring someone to purchase a second item with a first item was a monopolistic tactic.

    This isn't the case here, though. Both the iTMS and the iPod can be used independently of each other.

    So, if I submit my photos of my '04 Grand Marquis, wherein I have not ONLY added a 30G Neo35 MP3 player, but a Kenwood dual-band transciever plus two extra speakers for it, the antenna for the Kenwood, a second battery, extra power points, a battery isolator to charge the secondary battery, a second power distribution panel, would that make the front page?

    Replace the 30G Neo35 with either Linux or an iPod, and maybe we'll talk.

    It's called apple engineering... Most of their shit is poorly engineered. They just hide it behind marketing, ignorant customers, and pretty cases.

    Just some of the poorly engineered pieces I have come across as working as an apple authroized service provider for 4 years:

    Wow. Some who's job is repairing broken apple products has seen a lot of broken apple products. Who'd have figured?

    What's all this talk about "the scientists"?

    It's not like a bunch of concerned scientists got together one day for the purposes of releasing this statement- the USC is an established political activist group like any other, with a very specific agenda.

    They wouldn't give two whits if scientific data was being distorted to support THIER views. In fact, they're probably not above doing so themselves! I mean, there ARE scientists who disagree with them. Do you think those views, or the evidence that supports them, will be presented fairly on the UCS Web site?

    (note- this isn't at all a defense of George Bush. Just a healthy dose of political skepticism, because I think skepticism is pretty cool.)

    I use Virtual PC when I need to run Windows programs, such as music jukebox Winamp, that have Mac versions but are markedly superior on PC platforms.

    WTF?

    He spends hundreds of dollars on PC emulation software because he "needs" to run Winamp?!?

    Now, correct me if I am wrong, cause, hey, I probably am, but does this not seem like just one more subtle insult from Apple to Microsoft? Well-deserved, I might add, but why all these recent jabs?

    I don't think the point of this article is to be critical of Microsoft or of IE5.

    Web developers need to know the limitations of browsers they're coding for, that's all.
