This is just good advice for kids in general. Give them warning about what is going to happen in the future. I have a 2.5 year old and a 1 year old. If you turn off the TV without telling the kid that it's going to get turned off, or if you just say, "we are leaving the park now", the kid will get cranky and wine. However if you tell them 10 minutes before hand, and remind them at 5 minutes and 2 minutes, you tend to get a much better reaction out of them.
It would be better just to buy it outright. With free wireless broadband being so easy to get, and the cost of these netbooks dropping, you are probably just better off buying it outright, and not being tied into a provider.
My favourite is when the bleep out the word gun, yet play snoop and don't bleep out the lyrics "rollin' down the street, smokin endo, sippin on gin and juice". Which obviously promotes driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Seems to me like there's a bigger problem with the system. The machine has the smart card to identify you, and also records your vote. Seems like it would be hard to verify whether the machine was storing both pieces of information. Even if the system was designed to do that, it may not be that hard to attach a mod chip, pre-election, that would store this information.
Actually, only a good TV Tuner with onboard MPEG encoder will cause delay. You can get a crappy tv tuner that doesn't do anything on board and just converts the signal into a raw video stream. It won't be any good for a PVR, but it will probably be better for playing games.
Company seems to be doing ok. However, they seem to be producing very little in terms of new products for the sheer number of people there. People probably thought Nortel was doing pretty good when their stock price was $120 and they had all the same perks. I'm sure it will come back to bite them in a couple years.
My major problems with office 2007 are found within outlook 2007. Firstly they took the IE HTML engine out, and replaced it with the Word HTML rendering engine, which means the HTML support is now extremely crippled. Also, when you want to print an email, the only way to bring up the print dialog is with CTRL+P. Which is fine, once you figure it out, but completely annoying before you do. The only other way to print, is to find the ultra-tiny drop down arrow where the print button is hidden, but that only prints immediately to the default printer, and doesn't let you configure any other options.
I don't dream much at all, or as others have pointed out, I don't remember my dreams. Once in a while I'll remember them for like 30 seconds, and it usually ends up like this XKCD Comic. My wife on the other hand remembers almost all her dreams in a lot of detail. I wonder if any studies have been done about the reasons why some people remember dreams, while others don't.
I agree. Trackballs are always in a comfortable position, because you don't have to move them around. Also, they work on any surface. Even if you only have 12 sq inches of desk space. Try doing that with a mouse.
The difference is that they don't have to force you to hand over the key. If you don't give them the key, they are allowed to break down the door with brute force. I say, let them do the same with encryption. If the accused doesn't want to hand over the key, let them break the encryption some other way.
What kind of crappy work environment doesn't let you install different browsers on your computer? I guess I'm spoiled, because it's actually part of my job requirements to install every browser to ensure web apps work properly on each. It's not like we have secretaries browsing Slashdot.
Maybe that will be what ends up saving the human race. The only people having babies will be the people who actually have thought about it, and have come to the decision that they want to raise children. Rather than all the people who have made a bad decision, and now have to do their best to raise a child, despite never wanting to have a child in the first place. Personally, I have children, and I love it. But I think there is a large percentage of people who had children who had children who didn't want to, or who should have waited until later.
As an aside, Isn't that one way to really mess with machines? Throw some really unexpected input at them. Start talking about wearing an onion on your belt, and other non-sensical rants, see what the computer says. I would only count the turing test as complete if you could throw completely non-sensical input at it and still get a human response. I think they should get bug testers who are interested in trying complex methods to make the computer give bad responses, You could probably easily trick the computer by asking what it is interested in, and then asking arcane questions that it should be able to answer if it was indeed interested in what it said it was interested in.
With all the patent trolls, nobody knows whether those technologies are patent free either. From the Dirac FAQ.
Do you infringe any patents?
The short answer is that we don't know for certain, but we're pretty sure we don't.
We haven't employed armies of lawyers to trawl through the tens of thousands of video compression techniques. That's not the way to invent a successful algorithm. Instead we've tried to use techniques of long standing in novel ways.
I find it surprising that Opera is still behind Chrome. I'm personally a Firefox user, but I really thought that Opera was more prevalent, especially on Slashdot. I guess the few Opera users there are, are just really vocal when it comes to promoting their browser.
Personally, I don't use adblock, and don't really understand the need for it. I use flashblock, to get rid of annoying flash ads, and for the really annoying image ads, I can usually just use firefox's built in image block them. Most other ads aren't that annoying. I don't mind a site displaying advertisements as long as they are not annoying and tasteful.
I grew out of final fantasy at FF VII. That was a truly terrible game. Firstly, the battles were completely drawn out so long as to make them excruciatingly painful. Seriously, 30 second cut scenes for each attack is not something I want to deal with. Secondly, the game was completely linear. They'd ask you a bunch of questions to make it seem like you had a choice, but eventually all answers lead to the same conclusion. Also, you didn't even have to wander around to figure out where to go. You pretty much followed a path throughout the entire game.
I bought a TV Tuner and a license for SageTV. Cost about $200 combined, and I've been using it for 3 years with no recurring fees. I fail to see how this offering from Tivo+Nero is any better than my SageTV setup.
Except that unhinging the CD risks breaking the hinge because the platic they are made out of is so brittle.

The difference is that Lindows and Windows are both operating systems. While Azureus is a bittorrent client, and Azure is an operating System.

You don't have to be such a Nazi about it.

What use is moving to Montana if we are unable to produce enough food because of changing climate conditions?

4+4+3+3 = 14
1+4 = 5
5 = 2+3
2+3 -> 23
It all leads back to The Number 23

Only if you intend to publish on paper. If you want to publish on websites, or any other screen medium, then CMYK is completely useless.
I'm sure you could find a lot of people who would be happy to pay 9.1 cents for tons of cover songs.
