I'm not sure how things work in the united states, but it seems like up here in Canada, when they table a bill, it contains only relevant stuff so that the members of parliament, and the citizens, at least have a way of figuring out what's in the bill. Shouldn't it be against the law, or at least greatly frowned upon, to include a whole bunch of completely unrelated issues in a single bill?

I think illiteracy is mostly the governments fault, because they are in control of education. The economy also has a lot to do with the government. But how is obesity a problem of the government? I realize there's a connection with corn subsidies, and large amounts of HFCS in food, but you don't have to buy that stuff. I think the problem with obesity and being out of shape falls solely on the individual. There's plenty of healthy food out there, and it's not overly expensive that most people can't afford it.

That brings up a good point. Maybe there are some politicians from other countries who can put some pressure on the US to change their ways a little bit. If some leader of another country were to refuse to visit the US, or send others from the country to visit the us, because of laws like this, and a bunch of other countries basically boycotted the US, would they eventually have to change their ways? Anyway, I guess Google was right. There is no more expectation of privacy anymore.

I like the idea of flex hours. As long as you can make people be productive at work, it's a good idea. It's no use if everybody stays an extra hour a day, but spends the extra hour at the office Foosball table. The flip side of keeping people productive is you don't need 50-60 hour work weeks, because people actually get stuff done, instead of spending half the time just socializing.

Not necessarily. Assuming they have 500 people on a node and a bandwidth of 500 mbit/s on that node (I made up the numbers), you could not be in breach provided you didn't use more than 1 mbit/s. However, if you have 5 mbit connection, it would be quite a feat to ensure you didn't use more than your 1 mbit/s, but it could be done.

How does he know that the neighbor didn't ask the guy to go onto his property and get something from the house? How does he know that maybe they are robbing the guy, but maybe they are just stealing back something that was already stolen from them? Since when is death a proper punishment for burglary.

I would very much have to agree. If you have a bunch of extra money to spend on employee perks, make it on stuff that actually helps them get stuff done. Get them all good chairs, good workstations with multiple monitors, and private offices. Make it a place people want to work instead of a place where people want to goof off. Having a keg of beer and a block of cheese may seem like some nice perks, but it's not going to help the company get any work done. And it actually really detracts from people who actually want to build anything. Because to do any work, they have to go sit on their $40 office chair, and work on their P2 computer, with a 14 inch CRT.

Even if high speed wireless internet access was as wide spread as cellphone access, would that still be enough? There are enough dead zones, that many people would not be able to access their computer at all, which is unacceptable. Also, people seem to forget that the wireless is pretty limited. It works well for now, when people are just downloading email, or browsing a few websites, but I think the amount of bandwidth to run (what would amount to) a remote desktop connection, multiplied by the number of people using windows, would quickly overload any kind of wireless setup we could get. Obviously not everybody would have to use wireless connections, but if everybody who was currently using their desktop on wireless started using a remote desktop on wireless, the system would undergo a lot of strain.

Maybe they should change it, so that if it has no history, or the ranking difference between pages is very low, that it chooses more appropriate stuff, such as urls beginning with those characters. That way, on day one, it automatically matches to the URL, just like FireFox 2 did, and once it builds up a good enough history, it can start to make better decisions.
