Tech is really useful - Early tech was using bronze tools when the other guys didn't have them, then a steel sword when they had bronze. Then we got the tech called gun powder, precision rifled barrels....
Tech always gives you an advantage, but you have to know how to cope if it doesn't work as well as you hope, jams and misfires have been a 'feature' of firearms from day one. They still happen, just not as frequently. Night vision gear isn't a 100% but it is getting better. Don't knock tech - when you're stuck in mud a radio is good for getting help, but don't rely on it.
Historically one of the strengths of the British Squaddie is that he never believes the plans he's asked to execute are going to work, and always expects things to break or go wrong - so when they do he isn't too surprised. Tech is good, but don't forget your bayonet.
I'm seriously considering one of these. I used to have a Microwriter Agenda nad the chording keyboard was wonderful - I could touch type with it in my pocket, I'd love a PDA with that as input method today, the CyKey works with Palms, but I want a Zaurus or possibly WinCE version - I may get in touch and see if drivers are needed for Windows (if not I can probably use it as a liunx USB keyboard).
The idea would be to use a mouse/tablet right handed and the Cykey left handed, I could switch to right handed chording for a rest too. It is easy to learn, and no I'm not affilitaed:-)
i assume that the geforce will be trailing with an unrealistic margin, considering what it can really do.
If the software can't use its full capabilities, it can't really be said to do it. If nVidia want to use the cards 'real' performance they should design it to work to the standard API. This cards capabilities are largely theoretical with a large gap to its real-world performance.
Yes it's easy enough in Europe, but apparently it's not so easy to get hold of a multi-region player in the Land of The Free (terms and conditions apply)
N.B. for the ironically challenged, that's what this post is.
I don't know what sort of rounds they were, but a 15" HE shell came in around 1 ton of explosive. Propellant seperate of course.
This reminds of why the Warspite took so many shots to sink the German destroyers at Narvik, she was expecting a heavy cruiser and was loading with AP, so basically the Germans were having 15" shells going through them until enough damage was done - HE would have been much quicker (probably only 1 hit needed). IIRC they were nearly being knocked over by the impact...
They only have to release the source code to those to whom they sell the software. If they sell code to N.K. (to use your example) they only N.K. would have a right under the GPL to see the source.
The military exists for one reason, and one reason only -- to exert the threat (or action) of effective, lethal force on external states.
Not true, that may be the primary purpose but it has other uses too, domestic disaster relief and suppression of dissidents spring to mind. And if you don't like the sound of the latter what were the National Guard doing in the sixties riots etc?
In an intact nation, the military must never be concerned about due process, or constitutional rights, or body of evidence, or taking extraordinary measures to protect civilians. Preponderance of evidence, working with prosecutors, trial by jury -- all of these things shouldn't mean
anything to the military. Why? Because they're not law enforecement
In most western nations the military actually pay very much attention to civil law, when they don't you normally end up with a military Junta. They are trained to obey civil law at all times unless and until ordered to do otherwise by a superior office- who had better have a good reason for giving the orders. Protecting civilans is what the military should be for - from other nations military primarily. We could open up the debate to discuss whether the military is actually to protect the group it obeys (Prez, Cabinet,JCS,etc) rather than the citizens...
You may be allowed to read it, but the point is the posters don't want to be prosecuted for publishing it. The Reg had a neat explanation of this, a lot of people outside the US don't want to get arrested if they set foot on US soil because they published something on a web site hosted in another country that violates the DMCA.
Reminds of the friction between Turkey and Greece. I suspect that there might have been 'incidents' if they hadn't both been in.NATO
NATO is a big self defence club, if one member is attacked then the other members are obliged to join in to defend that member. So in a conflict between member states the aggressor would have to fight all the other members. So, if GWB sends troops to the Netherlands to rescue some poor US citizen from an international court it should end up US vs rest of NATO, which is one big nasty mess. Ain't likely to happen.
Here in the UK we have a radio comedy show called Dead Ringers, which is basically impersonations of well known people. Amongst poking fun at home grown targets they have a nice line in Bush-isms, where they tned to invetimagate new words of their own imagifying in the style of said presidentoratial personical..
I remember another study where students were asked to fill out a small survey. The professor then reviewed all the surveys and gave each student a customized personality profile. The students were asked the rate the profiles, and all gave them very high rankings....
The professor was B.F.Forer and the Forer effect is named after him, there's an explanation here.
Elsewhere on the site is an explanation of how to give a cold reading
The whole site is worth reading, covers confirmation bias too.
You mean Fireblade instead of Firebird?
No seasonal reference, please try again :-)
And call it Slashdot ?

Everyone else should leave UL (so SCO == UL) and set up a new collaborative effort if they can't push the cuckoo out of the nest.
America isn't a democracy, it's a republic - ask Gore.

If you want to run Oracle you should be running SuSE, they are partners for this.
For the cost of a new consumables I can toss the old printer and buy a new one each time, if they're really selling at a loss that would be amusing.
N.B. for the ironically challenged, that's what this post is.
I don't think that Sony does make a loss on Playstation sales. I suspect that while they are watching the Xbox saga closely they won't be worried yet.

It won't need to be innovative, just ubiquitous, like having the ability ot open them built into the next version of wordpad.
I'd never heard of them, but I certainly wouldn't do business with a firm that apparently has not the first clue about securing confidential data.
Not that it makes it any better but don't you mean refugee rather than immigrant? There is a difference.

Unfortunately he also wants to aim at people and pull the trigger.

I've spotted cassettes in the book shops too :-)
