    I find your defeatist propoganda to be tiresome and tasteless. You fight the battle here and now. You plan for the future. You cut your losses and run when you have to, but by Mod you fight until you can't fight anymore, and then to the death if you have to. I'm not just talking about trees, I'm talking about anything we value that is endangered.

    Yup. Only kids would be so irresponsible as to share music. All adults are obviously MUCH more inherently responsible, and none of them would EVER stoop so low as to share any kind of files. Now honestly, doesn't that seem just a BIT ridiculous?

    Lack of chronology does NOT map directly to lack of maturity in all cases. Just because you managed not to die yet does NOT automatically make you inherently better or wiser than say, me.

    Seriously, I love the titles we're given these days. Currently I'm a Senior in a Computer Science program... but really, I think I should get a raise and the new title "Education Subscriber" or maybe "Learning Engineer".

    Is this type of deal limited only to the Tech Sector, or is everybody throwing about hyphens and "Engineer" to make people sound more important?

    Other good tack-on words I can think of would be associate (no, that's not the Fry Cook, that's our Comestibles Associate), analyst (hey, I'm not a waitress, I'm an Order Analyst), and vice president (no, I'm not the bus boy, I'm the VP of Table Maintenence).

But if it were Microsoft patenting "an improved method for giving help to users", say maybe the help files vs. man pages, people would flame about prior art, talk endlessly out of their anuses about how Bill Gates is trying to wrest control of the tinfoil hat co-op from Mac users, and generally be nuisances.

    I love /.ing while in class, but honestly, people. Google gives a C&D letter, we all golf clap and say "way to defend your IP!" Someone else does it, and we all run to chillingeffects to boycott / whine / gripe / whatever.

    Here's a thought... get off your hobbyhorse, and start evaluating things based on FACTS, not the general feeling of techno-elitism you get from pretending you're cool because you get jokes written in PERL.

    My university uses a22m's, and we have a similar problem. We're under contract to IBM so we get replacements pretty cheap, but they have a similar problem. Over time, we've noticed that if you fail to discharge the battery fully about once a week, it will develop a memory, even though they're not supposed to. I ruined my last battery in just under a semester of use.
