No PCI slots, but it does have USB ports.. If any usb tuners worked under linux it would be feasible to get them running with xbox. Though I'd doubt the 700mhz cpu and 64 megs of RAM would be up for much by way of real PVR features (pause live TV, etc)..
They make half decent media playback boxes, but as for a PVR, buy a PVR, or build/buy a media center TV.
Xbox at 99 + HDD upgrade + TV tuner + mod chip + hassles = ugly (hacked usb dongle TV tuner hanging out the front), practically useless and probably cost more than a ReplayTV all told..
Maybe he should have done 5 minutes worth of research with google before investing $400 bucks or so in a video card.
Or maybe his research was limited to the fanboy rantings of how superior the card is based on artificial benchmarks.
Why are the super tech geniouses of linux land always shocked to find the expensive hardware they just bought has no/little linux support?
Anyhow, for ATi to supply good linux support, that would mean true OpenGL support - something even the windows drivers for the Radeon series are pathetically lacking.
The cards are the 'fastest and greatest' only in Direct3D benchmark apps.
No, hes a leader/spokesman of an orginization with an agenda, he does not represent the entire community. No more than Howard YEHAW Dean represents the democratic community.
ya huh huh post her email address so slashfags can flood her with drivel.
Just because the majority of "+5 insightful" posts may have been denying the attack, the majority of the posts in general were glorifying it, as does the majority of the userbase here, and the majority of the linux community.
The handful of "+5 insightful" yammerers dont make up this sites audience, nor do they keep it afloat by viewing all the MSDN ads.
Bruce Perens has written a letter to the Open Source community, discouraging us from cheering on the MyDOOM virus, as it would falsely implicate the FOSS communities
Falsely my black ass.. You gonna tell me that this virus is a commercial offering?
No, the "OSS Community" posts senseless and moronic rants on slashdot, calls your CEO a "big fag" and relaunches an old virus (of course they dont write their own, they just clone an existing one) to DDoS your web page.
Linux' place in business has been knocked back, not because of SCO's actions, but because of the communities immature and asinine reactions.
Because it's cool to be incinerated instantly, but being burned to death and then having your body plummet 19 miles before hitting the ground is terribly sad.
It takes hours to incinerate a corpse in a crematorium, what made you think it'd happen instantly inside Columbia? It rained little bits and pieces of crew and spaceship all over the countryside. They just found the israeli guys diary on the roof of an outhouse in Kentucky a few days ago.
I can't imagine someone not wanting to spend the other fifty bucks and get the real thing.
Since when is iPod the "real thing"? To me, the real thing can play WMA, and OGG would be nice as well. Those "phony and cheap" players can at least play WMA - one of the most prolific formats out there right now.
Methinks you are a dingbat. Not everyone is in love with Apple and their overpriced, underuseful and uberghey products.
With so many new folks switching to their systems, the demand for an overpriced device that can be more easily shoved up a virgin asshole must be overwhelming them.
Because NOONE ELSE is offering them the product they want?
Whoopty doo, MS added an RFID module to it's system. Not much difference from the barcode software that was there previously.
So get off your fat ass and write them an open source alternative. Or is your tune simply "everyone should spend millions and millions in man hours to reinvent the wheel because I don't like windows!!"
And yeah, there should be some sort of virus/hacker protection on every cash register no matter what the ideology of the people who coded the OS it's using.
I believe for wrongful prosecution, there has to be some sort of malice on the prosecutors side. Or prosecutorial misconduct, or some other legal mumbo jumbo. As in they filed charges just because they dont like me and want to make me miserable, knowing full well I was innocent. It's not wrongful if they had a good faith belief that the charges were valid. Tough to prove.
For example, they charge me with murder because they find the victims blood all over my car, and my bloody shoes and gloves in a wastebasket at the airport. But during the trial it's discovered that the gloves dont fit, so I'm found innocent. Can I sue for wrongful prosecution?
I really need to know because I can hardly afford green fees these days!
This means that the DVD CCA has finally conceded that CSS is no longer a secret
No it doesn't, it means they decided not to pursue this particular case. I dont see where they conceded anything, or shut the door on any future legal action.
Just because the EFF sees it that way doesnt mean it's so, they're a special interest group with an agenda. Agreeing with the agenda doesn't make everything they say/do in pursuit of that agenda right.
Hi, I have pac man fever so I bought the most expensive box at the store - OSX Server.
I put it on my computer, and then put a laptop on top of my stereo.
And then I dont really use it for managing stuff or sharing files theres only me and my cat in the house, also I dont know about technical stuff like kerbones because I'm not much of a computer guy I just know the most expensive stuff HAS to be the best.
So all in all I give Mac OSX Server a 10 out of 10 it is very cool and has wonderful animated icons, and not too many buttons on the mouse to confuse me.
Stay tuned for part 2 of my review, where I plan to put my iPod next to it and take pictures!
The monitor will run you 3-5 hundred, new. Go price out a 19" standard res arcade monitor at happ. Don't forget shipping, these things dont show up in the mail.
The cabinet will cost you about 100 bucks all told, even if you make it out of cheapo MDF.
Joysticks, buttons, switches, wood-mounted PSUs and iso transformers... Rugged arcade quality stuff ain't cheap, and the cheap stuff is worthless. You ever seen the beating the drunks at the bar put on the Golden Tee Golf machines? Those trackballs must be made out of kryptonite or something.
It's probably worth just under a grand in parts. And then labor costs. Those things are heavy mofos to move around, so you need some serious warehousing etc, etc.. The rest is licensing..
Remember, these things are sold to MAKE money, though.. 50 cents a pop, thats only 4000 plays until it's payed for itself. 15 plays a day, and it's payed for itself in a year.. Find a few good locations and these things could make you a decent profit on a route.
50 cents is just what arcade games cost these days. Talk to your arcade operator about that, it can be easily changed.
BTW, All the games at Chuck E Cheese are a quarter, if you have access to a little kid to get you in. They're also set on easy difficulty too.. I played Star Wars Pinball for an hour and a half on one credit..
The arcade operator can adjust it to 25 cents if he/she wants.. There are no quarter games left, not in places that try to turn a profit at least. Maybe the cabinet in the local bar, that's more window dressing than a moneymaker will be a quarter.
Arcades are dying, netcraft confirmed it years ago when the SNES came out. All that's left are specialty cabinets like DDR or light gun games, stuff you cant play on your home TV. I see more Golden Tee Golf and Deer Hunter games than anything else.
The local mall has a Galaga/Ms Pac combo, they run it at 50 cents, but for 50 cents, I can play on it for a half an hour. Whereas the latest-greatest light gun shooter game gives me about 45 seconds of joy for my 4 bits.

What other places did they stuff it before they decided the collar was the best?
Umm, these are linux zealots. It wouldnt fit up their asses next to the iPod and Zaurus.
Realize also that these are knobs who own nothing but collared shirts. On the beach in a collared T shirt. Socks with sandals. They're that cool.

Her assessment was dead on.
Bruce Perens has written a letter to the Open Source community, discouraging us from cheering on the MyDOOM virus, as it would falsely implicate the FOSS communities
Falsely my black ass.. You gonna tell me that this virus is a commercial offering?
Because he's the ultimate zealot.
(the very reason that a troll trolls)

It'll be published in print next monday.
Fuckin DUH

We have, we boned up Hubble, we smashed a bunch of multi-million dollar RC cars up on Mars.. The big difference was that Columbia had people on board.
Spaceships are hard, but Cramak gona fix it!!!1!!
OWWWW! hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot!
A lot of unemployed people are just plain useless.
They're still waiting for a $200,000-per-year-with-stock-options gig writing FORTRAN routines to create amortization tables.
If you really want it, work is easy to find.
I can't imagine someone not wanting to spend the other fifty bucks and get the real thing.

Dont worry, if the straight sex reference makes you too uncomfortable you can always stroke the mouse's ball.
Not coincidentally, this is why Macs have no mouse wheel.
..since tacos trip to the glue factory.

You forgot to include info about AT&T's official response:
DONT WORRY, CRAMAK GONA FIX IT!!1!!!
Because when one thinks of video driver support and lightning fast rendering, obviously they think of X11 running on a linux box.
Know what? It's ViewSonics device, it's up to ViewSonic to sink or swim. Quit making excuses, quit making everything into a "MS= teh sock!" argument.
Besides, CRAMAK GONA FIX IT!!!1!
