The fantasy is that OLED will be so cheap to produce, it wont matter to you. Your roll-up wall-sized screen will be priced like drapery fabric at the local craft store.
So when it fades, you'll be able to replace it cheaply, just like replacing the faded Pink Floyd poster from your college days.
This, of course, has been the promise of most new tech. Super-cheap and disposable. We'll see.
Jeezus that was fucking boring. Dont do that again, everyone hates Stan Le.
Now, I signed up for do not call but I dont really care if you call or not. Telemarketers are probably the only social contact you misfits will ever have, I say take what you can get.
Personally I think comics would get more respect if they dropped the obsession with skin tight clothes, formulalistic violence, and every woman is DD breasted.
I wasnt shocked to learn that linux zealots would steal SCO code, but MS stole it for DOS too? Unbelievable.
And it's hurting innocent people? Wont someone think about the innocent people?
Anyhow, I hope every asshat script kiddie ddos hacker gets strung up by his nuts. They're the most useless section of internet society by far. WTG lunix for taking the high road.
Search engines will improve. Right now every search I do on google results in hundreds of phony pages that redirect to eBay.
They (google) need to fix their engine to stop letting asshats pollute it like that. It's an ever-evolving thing, like the rest of the net. Or it will die off and be replaced like countless other search engines.
I have no idea what he means by "Balkanization", my buzzword dictionary is out of date. I'd assumed he meant the internet will fragment back into aol, compuserve and fidonet.
I dont think that blocking ddos attacks on the big pipes is going to harm the internet. If thats his big fear, then I hope it comes true.

If the level of background traffic ever nearly approached the danger levels he's spouting about, then the big backbone providers will correct the situation.
They can do a lot to stop spam and ddos attacks the like, but the problem is they get paid for bandwidth - so they arent inclined to care where the traffic comes from.
But if it gets to the point that its going to erode their customer base, they'll start dropping bad traffic, adding more pipes, whatever it takes to keep the system rolling.
You either deal with the online idiots, or abandon the internet. The pros of the internet FAR outweigh the cons, IMO.
Frankly I dont see the spams and ddos attacks and blah blah that you all get so worked up over as much of a big deal. I get little spam, on the order of a couple dozen a year. Big ddos attacks on commercial sites have never really bothered me. Whoopty do.
There are jerks at the mall, but its still the best place in town to buy a new pair of pants.
"Elitist jackass thinks we need to abandon internet because he's offended by penis-enlarging spam". Big boo-hoo deal. You run off and start your own internet then. Those of us with balls (or a reasonable equivalent) will stick around here, thanks. Because it really isnt that bad.
Halo is a good game. Halo is also a RELEASE TITLE! Its fucking old man! How long can Halo carry the xbox? Its like talking about Gran Turismo for PS2, get with the times.
While PS2 has older a-list titles being sold as "classics", like Jak & Daxter, Devil May Cry, FFX, GT3, the XBox offers discounted "platinum" games like Simpsons Road Rage and SSX Tricky. Who are they kidding? By now, Halo should be 19.99 and Xbox should have long since moved past it.
I mean, every month theres another good PS2 game out thats getting a bunch of buzz. A month later its replaced by something else, and you pick up the previous months game for 20 bucks. Kick ass. Even Gamecube seems to be pushing out the must-have titles faster than xbox.
My problem is that two years later, people are still telling me how great Halo is. Yeah, its good, I've had it for two years. I'm sick of it. Its over.
I mean I was at EB the other day just itchin to buy a game, and I pored over the xbox shelves - theres nothing there. Futurama intrigues me (since I like the show), but you just know the game sucks as hard as any of the simpsons titles. Oh well. Microsoft fails it.
Yeah only the mob has such sophisticated tools at their disposal, and obviously employ the most fiendishly clever hackers on the planet.
As others have pointed out, there are a lot of people who hate these little censor lists, their arbitrary and often politically motivated "blacklisting".
With these folks, the cure is often worse than the disease. Now instead of your company "losing revenue" due to spam, you lose clients due to their inability to contact you.
Maybe they dont realize GCC was never designed to be a highly optimized compiler, rather a generic cross-platform compiler?
Myself, it seems like a whole lot of bloat. Is it possible to drop in Intel or IBMs compiler on your average linux box and rebuild everything? I've never really looked into it, but judging from benchmarks you should be seeing 200%+ performance boosts.
Thats something worth compromising ones "Free with a capital F" ideals for, IMO.
When/if the G5 outperforms Intel's best, what will the fanboys rally cry be next?
I nominate "who gives a shit?"
Anyone who buys a PC because of lame ass benchmarks has no use for said PC, other than to yammer endlessly. If you work with macs, get a mac, if you work with PCs, get a PC, they're two completely different worlds.
I'm sick of X is 30% better at [specific instruction] than Y arguments. It's like "xbox is 33% faster than ps2" or "mac is 21% faster than dell!". Who gives a flying fuck anymore? Xbox has the worlds shittiest lineup of games, and Macs dont run a *lot* of software essential to people.
They're just devices, a means to an end. Quit telling me how your boot polisher is better than my doorstop. Its irrelevant.
Because they aren't in love with RMS's conditional license? Because they have IP they dont want to release? Because they make money from their own compiler?
Is there any reason that gcc maintainers dont just improve gcc? Isn't that what they're supposed to do?
Gcc may be a complete compiler suite. Whee. It's hardly optimized for any platforms besides x86 and Alpha, though.
Hooray for some french chick. The real question is, did she shave her pits and/or use deoderant? I think we know the answer is 'non'.

Linus doesnt get paid to write free software. He writes VLIW shit for Transmeta last I heard, and I dont believe any of that is Free.
Even Mr Lunix needs a real job to pay the bills.
1) Get Linux 2.6
2) RTFA
3) Compile and install it
4) Profit!
Nothing surprising here.

Hooray the internets ending. I for one welcome our new outernet overlords.

Running WHAT in the real world?
So you can compare Photoshop on the mac to Oracle database transactions on the x86 box?
Why not something useful like comparing my gameboy to my cell phone?
When/if the G5 outperforms Intel's best, what will the fanboys rally cry be next?

I guess we will have to compare the new benchmark data (once available) with the data we get with the optimized Intel compiler for Xeon
Yeah we need fuel for lame ass my mac is better than your pc flamewars.
I'd imagine one could cook up code to make whichever machine they want look "faster".
Who gives a rats ass anymore.
Friggin lunix boxes so easy to exploit.
Yet another reason to proprietize the 'net. Go Apple and MSFT!

And if they wanted a multithreaded webserver, why would they be using Apache 1.3.x?
You see, people who dont know what they're talking about say all kinds of silly shit. Just look at michael's editorial history.
Nah, I first heard the quote back before the PC days, and it was in reference to subroutine design (64k of stack space), not the entire machine.
He never said it.
