The fantasy is that OLED will be so cheap to produce, it wont matter to you. Your roll-up wall-sized screen will be priced like drapery fabric at the local craft store.
So when it fades, you'll be able to replace it cheaply, just like replacing the faded Pink Floyd poster from your college days.
This, of course, has been the promise of most new tech. Super-cheap and disposable. We'll see.

If the level of background traffic ever nearly approached the danger levels he's spouting about, then the big backbone providers will correct the situation.
They can do a lot to stop spam and ddos attacks the like, but the problem is they get paid for bandwidth - so they arent inclined to care where the traffic comes from.
But if it gets to the point that its going to erode their customer base, they'll start dropping bad traffic, adding more pipes, whatever it takes to keep the system rolling.
You either deal with the online idiots, or abandon the internet. The pros of the internet FAR outweigh the cons, IMO.

Myself, it seems like a whole lot of bloat. Is it possible to drop in Intel or IBMs compiler on your average linux box and rebuild everything? I've never really looked into it, but judging from benchmarks you should be seeing 200%+ performance boosts.

Anyone who buys a PC because of lame ass benchmarks has no use for said PC, other than to yammer endlessly. If you work with macs, get a mac, if you work with PCs, get a PC, they're two completely different worlds.
I'm sick of X is 30% better at [specific instruction] than Y arguments. It's like "xbox is 33% faster than ps2" or "mac is 21% faster than dell!". Who gives a flying fuck anymore? Xbox has the worlds shittiest lineup of games, and Macs dont run a *lot* of software essential to people.
They're just devices, a means to an end. Quit telling me how your boot polisher is better than my doorstop. Its irrelevant.

Gcc may be a complete compiler suite. Whee. It's hardly optimized for any platforms besides x86 and Alpha, though.
