    Agreed.

    I always found it odd that of all places, slashdot (where automation of tasks such as parsing of text into spell checkers and compilers should be king) posters seem to take such joy out of 'trolling' each other over grammar and spelling mistakes.

    Well I'm the kind of coder that has never written anything for a non-windows platform in my life. I can barely install a linux distro, but I managed to work out Bugzilla by using their website documentation. Its easy.

    Bugzilla works fine on Windows. My Bugzilla App faithfully spams my VB worshipping line-manager on a daily basis.

    Whatever happens, Britain is sitting pretty. We have our own oil and gas reserves. We have enough coal to synthesize petroleum when the oil does run out. We even have the world's largest and most advanced Fusion reactor.

    Question is, why are we a net importer of fuel? Kyoto commitments.

    Actually you are incorrect as far as the radiation is concerned. Whilst there would be no explosion, the by products of the currently proposed tritium fusion reactions are highly radioactive. Fortunately they have a half-life of a couple of years and so are nowhere near as dirty as traditional nuclear waste.

    After that, the only issue is heat, I dread the amount of heat leakage possible with mass production of these things.

    I think that if we got to the stage where by this becomes an issue, we as a race will have also developed the ability to leave the solar system.

    Space Travel is not as dangerous - many more people have died scuba diving. So I guess maybe space travel is a way for whimps to experience scuba diving.

    ... and this is ONLY $1 million a year, out of how many 100s of billions that is the US's defence budget?

    It sounds more than reasonable to me to spend that sort of money on an initial analysis of whether the claims are bullshit or not. Now just imagine if your country was at war and you were "second to market" in some 'way out' technology? Hiroshima for instance.

    ... and the figures quoted seem ludicrously inflated. The Accenture contracts (which are 2 out of the 5 available) cost the NHS less than £1 billion over the next 10 years. BTW your link doesn't work.
