Actually if you have a point... If you withdraw money from the same bank machine each time...and you deposit a paycheque into that same bank, and that bank only.... TIA wouldn't be able to gather much... 1 access point...
Then again, could doing this get yourself flagged?
US GOV: "Hmm... this guy doesn't seem to have much of an electronic trail at all"...
The problem is... WHO is better with physical cash then a bank card? Cash is like water over here...
Okay so they are locking us out of there MSN instant messenger network(who cares). Whoever is using this protocol for business purposes should have a swift kick in the rear anyway...
Think about it for a second, we all should have saw this coming... Chances are some microsoft idiot didn't like the fact that they couldn't charge for access to there instant messenger service. Now I haven't been following enough to know if they are actually charging, or if they are just trying to make all of there clients complient and for use with only ms systems. I really don't care.
So who wants to bet with me that hotmail is next? They charge for that now (to get a bigger mailbox)...But who can see them denying access at all unless you pay?
Coming soon to a website near you... $24.99 to access your old mailbox...
This isn't a troll, it's more like trying to get people to see that this isn't a suprise at all...
I wish that they wouldn't... I mean... This should have been no suprise to anyone. Linux is there competition, of course they would deny anything but Microsoft to connect to there clients. I guess I shouldn't speak for Mac, they might catch a break.
I think that the open source world should just shrug there shoulders and move on to ICQ or Jabber or yahoo...etc.
Here is the catch though, as users switch to other protocols there servers will become swamped...There is a very good posibility that Yahoo might start charging and ICQ...Then all we might be left with is our lovely Jabber friends:)
This is the RIAA.... We have the FBI approaching your location. Please stay where you are and don't delete the 1000 songs you have on your computer. Also, that website you went to regarding "Respecting Copywrites" was Copywrite protected... You broke the law by visiting that site... Please do not delete the cookie or the bookmark... We also ask that you do not clear your history...
Thank you,
The FBI should be there soon to arrest you.
-- Yes I don't usually post like this... but heck... It's Sunday and I'm bored.
Math is a very important thing in High School... But not in the way that a lot of you think... There are two uses for math in High School...
1) To teach the concepts of basic math and calculus. 2) *The most important* To exercise the students
brain and to keep them mentally alert.
When a student graduates from school it is a huge shock to them because the world is a lot slower then it is in school (at least it should be if they were working hard). Suddenly you don't have home work every day... You don't have tests every week and there are no such things as exams... Work is very much different. Now some businesses do testing on there employees... but it's not as bad as school...
When you drop math... you drop creativity, the ability to learn other subjects, to stay focused, and most importantly... to stay curious...
-- There I finally was smart enough to save this as plain text lol.
I'm sure they have had a test lab setup for quite some time now...Have you ever worked for a company and they have NOT bought the competitors product and put it in a restricted area... Our old company used to do that all the time... No one had access to the area, but a select few...
Microsoft is doing the same...Yes they will improve there software by copying or at least duplicating the hard work the OSS community has done...
They arn't a threat to us people... How many of you WANT all of your users in your office to run Linux? Honestly... at this point in development? It runs GREAT on our machines... Could stay up years if you know how to maintain it right... and WE do... but the average user wouldn't.
If Microsoft comes out with some new feature that interests us... Trust me, we will have programmers on it in two seconds to duplicate there new feature and add it into our system. Remember Internet Connection sharing? well we came up with that first... ipfwadm.... The stupid little Start button... well I THINK (don't quote me on this) we took that from them... We definatly took the "control panel idea"... Mix and match... If WE want it bad enough... It will be done...
A good example is new hardware... If it only works on windows... and it's crap even while working there... no point in making drivers for it here...but if it's something good... Watch out for a new "so and so driver coming next month"...
-
Just my 2 cents... but you'll have to give the 2 cents back if you will, I'm kinda on social assistance.
Well said, I deal with both also... I'm getting so used to my linux system though that I am loosing touch with the Microsoft world... Shouldn't be to hard to learn everything again.... Just click "START"...Oh look... there are all my apps.
I agree here... The little guy is getting hurt more then the big artists...I highly doubt we are draining Avril's bank account... Hell she probably gets more interest off it then the combined total of illegal songs downloaded.
It is a very good thing. People seem to forget that Microsoft does produce good products... now they may be full of security holes... and they may be untested to a certain extent... but you can do a lot with a Windows system...
Question... If Microsoft had a positive image in the world... and there products were free of bugs (they would have to hire more then 1 QA tester)... would your really complain so much about the software or OS? Its still better then nothing...
Trust me, you don't want all of your users to use Linux... bad idea.
Im not sure if they did this to improve there overall company image (which they majorly need to do) or if this was pressured by the court...
This might open up a whole new can of worms for them though... It's a bold step... You have to give them credit...
and im a linux advocate...
Okay who modded this as a 4, insightful? I hardly think someone mouthing off with swear words on a board of this magnitude should be modded anything more then a 0 or troll...
I live in Toronto... You mostly saw people in the subways where there is poor ventilaton wearing masks... Down on bloor station at 5pm can be a very busy place.
Since US is pretty much joined with Canada at the hip they could have put a little of that wasted money into the Canadian Military...
If a Country ever decided to attack Canada we might as well give up and start offering our attackers Tim Hortons Coffee... we might be good for peace keeping...but we have no defense...Missles coming over Canada from other countries would fly right by...I doubt we would even try and shoot them down.
Ever notice how you can open a brand new hotmail account and then 3 days later you have a nice email telling you how to enlarge your @#$#@$. Get rid of the damn mail service, they may not be ones causing it... but its sure a hell of a target....and a waste of bandwidth.
The majority of the world (hey its changing)is still on dial-up... Im out here in the middle of the country so I doubt video surfing will happen over here any time soon.
Thats the thing.... The US doesn't control the internet... Not in the slightest...They may have a company dishing out IP blocks...someone has to do it...Just because its on US soil doesn't mean that Europe, China or any other eastern countries can setup there own dns services. The UK is a pretty big country... They might miss going to www.hotmail.com but im sure they will setup there own eventually.
Point is... US might be the most powerful Country in the world... but it can't dictate everything.
I do understand that IPV6 is a LOT better then IPV4....and yes there does need to be a change somewhere down the line.... but why do americans assume that they own the internet? We all know that they created it...but times have changed...The internet is a world wide network....Why do they think they everyone will conform to what Mr US big brother says? I wouldn't.
Well its nice of them to try...If this story is even remotely accurate but the linux world is doing fine without Bill Gates...
Just think of how many companies out there tried selling closed source software. Now think of how many people actually buy that software...
One word of advise: Look before you jump Bill....
Now if you want to help us with open source... go right ahead...but keep all the legal stuff at home.
I think we look at Microsoft as evil because of the companies marketing stratagies and the quality of software they bring to the market. If they got there act together...and actually starting making DECENT platforms and applications... Would you still hate Microsoft?
Personally...I don't like what they stand for. The "Im going to take over the world" thing was cute when the company started...now its just retarded.
Point is... we don't HAVE to pay to use Slashdot (as they don't force us)... The library issue is a good point... but have you ever been to a college or university? They may have to return the book but the photo copy machine gets its fair share of quarters too...
"so if all music was for free, how would the label or the artist make money?"
By being creative and not depending on royalties... Like I said in a pervious post...If they really REALLY were in a crunch and wanted money... They should stop selling the portable Mp3 players that one of there own companies makes.... Sony portable Mp3 player... Sony music labels.... Sony is still sony... Period.
Just my two sence though... you have a valid point.
Actually if you have a point... If you withdraw money from the same bank machine each time...and you deposit a paycheque into that same bank, and that bank only.... TIA wouldn't be able to gather much... 1 access point...

Cool.... but why has this been modded insightful?

Yes I don't usually post like this... but heck... It's Sunday and I'm bored.
Oh but it does... All work and no play makes for a very burnt out student... Trust me, they need some form of entertainment....
It may appear a waste of money... but you could also say the same when IBM allows there programmers to play video games to break things up a little...

Riaa advocate... whats the difference? Troll his too then.
Why didn't I put that in plain text format! D'oh

Your igloo has power? Damn you... were still using 12 volt batteries and generators out here in the maritimes.
